  1. You get to ride that often!! I wish i could, i get out once every few weeks/months Good luck with everything dude.
  2. I've done this many times before. And for ultimate harshness you can lift the front wheel to manual height, then swing it down to bounce it back up for a tap... though that move should probably be called a slam.
  3. Shit, how did i not see this! Happy belated birthday dude.
  4. I can honestly say i have no definite idea as to why it makes the noise. I've always believed it to be something to do with pad wobble, if you get our red pads for example and push them to a piece of glass they stick pretty well and won't move, if you press them in a way that they slip slightly they judder across the glass and its this movement that creates the noise. I'm unsure of the seatstays themselves being twisted enough to affect the harmonics, but its not that hard to imagine the clamps and bolts twisting slightly under braking, which won't happen once a booster has been fitted.
  5. Bite seems to be increased if there is more vibration through the frame, fitting a booster to a stiff frame removes vibrations so no sound or bite.
  6. I reckon its due to the way the pads are compressed more, but my logic only works for grinds... i reckon for a smooth rim a booster will be fine (i havn't looked into it much though). The more force you put on rubber to compress it the quicker it reaches its maximum compression range, once it hits this limit it won't compress any more, effectively leaving you with a piece of very hard material. Without a booster there is still room for the frame to flex slightly, which means the pads don't fully compress and stay within their working limits. When you fit a brake booster it means the only viable option between hard rubber/plastic and angled metal is for the material to be worn away. So when you pull your brake really hard you'll find it makes a swooshing noise, pad material runs out far quicker and because of this material being worn away rather than putting up a resistance it loses any hold it has too (it won't hold if its being shaved away as the surface of the pad isn't gripping its being worn off). Thats your problem... If your using it to clean your hands and brushes the last thing you want is for it to dry out whatever your cleaning. Skin will become dry and will crack, bristles on a paintbrush become dry and snap. If it leaves a small amount of lubricating/moisturising material on the surface your hands will be less prone to cracking and the bristles on your paintbrushes will last longer
  7. Did mine last year, its pretty easy... about the same as polishing up a frame. EDIT: Shocking stuff... exactly a year today i posted this beast up!!! http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....mp;hl=krisboats
  8. Nice relaxing vid there andy, looked like a good day out. Hope your still going to be able to bunnyhop your new bike when you get it!
  9. Tell you what then... you can be in charge of photos from my camera.
  10. Just swing the bike forwards from underneath you, pull on the bars then fire yourself upwards with both your arms and your legs. Try bunnyhopping to back wheel on things and once you get the hang of that you'll be fine. Alternatively i know someone who said it was easier for them to learn to sidehop from two wheels higher first, then just sidehop whilst rolling along.
  11. Patt cut every alternative knob off the outside knobs on his tyres and he says the difference in grip is really noticeable, with it being much better now the knobs are removed.
  12. Heyup andy, not spoken in a while... hope all is well. Nice looking bike you've got there too, i've wanted a st blaize for ages, but unfortunately money being spent on the bike isn't a priority with rent and food bills to pay
  13. I know what you mean, i think thats what happens once you've done the move a silly amount of times. I remember when i first started i used to break up what i'd need to do and concentrate on little bits at a time, where as now i think about where i need to go and it just sort of happens, far more naturally.
  14. Ooh, i wonder who wins? I sort of go "gaarrrgggghhhh".. not really a grunt, more of a fast low toned scream/growl. The worrying thing is that since starting it in riding i do it in other things too as a sort of way of expressing emotion. I growled at someone the other day for no obvious reason, which to me seemed normal.... the look on their face said otherwise though :$
  15. Holy shit! A new rider in my area! Yeah, boosters generally remove the noise of the brake on most frames, flexy or not. But on a stiff frame they tend to reduce performance and on a frame with a bit of flex they usually do increase the hold of the brake. Best bet would be try a 2 bolt booster and a 4 bolt one and see which works best for your frame.
  16. Sweet vid mate, your riding is getting sooo good now. The reds look like they're doing alright on the front... nice and grabby. You best fix that ankle for the 24th
  17. Birmingham to leicester works fine for me on the 24th, doesn't show any errors or cancellations just a bus service. Throw your bikes in the bottom of the coach and off you go. Alternatively, If its easier for anyone you can come to loughborough on the friday night and stop at my house then go riding on the saturday from here (10 mins away from leicester on the train). Invitation is open to everyone and anyone.
  18. Is it really? Mine have been fine since i bought them nearly 2 years ago In fact, the only pads i'd heard to do this were rimjams, save a few incidents with old maguras running the heatsink pads (by old i mean used for a long time and due for replacement, not the old style). I'd imagine your magura was pretty old, the build up of crap around where the nipple is shows they're not the newest of things. I'd whack your red material back in if you were getting on with it, and run it with your replacement slave cylinder. I'd be very suprised if it happened twice.
  19. Slow down there sport , we don't need tripods. I'll be there
  20. You just copied jonnys post and removed the quotes?
  21. Dave, seriously, jonny's more than capable of riding. Okay, he's not quite got the control he used to have, but now he's had chance to reply he mentioned his body was battered from the gym and he struggled holding the bike up. Instead of just jumping to conclusions, maybe checking out previous videos would have been a better idea so you didn't come across so badly. is a video of jonny last year. Smaller riding and a lot more control on the back wheel, hardly just jumping on a bike and starting riding... jonny's had over three times the amount of bikes i've had and has probably put a lot more hours into riding too. It does sometimes seem like you pick faults with things on the forum just for the sake of it or to provoke an argument. I do agree with some points though jonny, you need someone better to film for you... get on ebay and get a new camera Riding was immense though i can't believe how far you can fly now. Also, is that a beer belly your growing dude?
  22. Jonny's spot on with the wheelbase only being partially relevant. My rex is one of the longest riding bikes around just because i have such a huge stem on it. Bigmans koxx coust mk2 seemed longer again though and was very comfortable for me to ride on. The downside with getting a big stem on a medium sized wheelbase though is the way it sets you so far over the front wheel for natural riding, which i personally dislike. The stem seems to sit the bars almost too far forwards and it makes the bike feel like the front wheel should be another inch or so forwards. The limey 2 looks very nice indeed, and i would love to have one myself, if only i wasn't a cheap student i probably would have. Basically, low bb, long wheelbase and long bb to headtube measurement and you'll be very well set up. If not, go with the longest reach area possible (like the limey) and stick a big stem on with some riser bars. If your tall, the longer reach gives much more balance than a shorter bike with a high bb.
