  1. Mac's are not *bad*!!! If you like the way their interface works, and are prepared to sacrifice 99% of x86 PC Games, then nothing's stopping you (Y)) Yes they are expensive, but they are high quality pieces of machinary - and yes, you do pay some extra ££ for style..... but I think it's worth it. They can do everything (just about) that x86 can do - and M$ have ported over some of their applications to the MacOSX - MSN Messenger/Office/Internet Explorer etc :: Phaze ::

    Steam / Cs

Have a look on Google for the "Offline Steam" hack someone did. It makes Steam register on localhost, as opposed to a server..... then you can register, and unlock your game without getting online!
  3. Or just use Linux/FreeBSD/Solaris on your current computer :turned:)
  4. It's for protein folding - biological research at Standford University (USA). Have a look on their website, as I'm sure the results they have analysed have had "real-world" contributions for the good of mankind....... something in the disease department, if I remember correctly... Wouldn't you feel something, if your computer contributed to finding out a cure for some terminal disease? Especially when it has no impact on what you do on your computer - performance wise :turned:)
  5. Windows Me was an OS M$ released when XP was delayed. It's also known as "Windows 98, Service Pack 2" - as it has the same underlying code :turned: It was the first Windows version to have "System Restore" and a few other nifty features of XP... Get rid of it, and burn the CD. Get XP Pro or Windows 2000 (with SP4)...
  6. As Folding@Home is designed to have the LOWEST processor priority, you will not notice the difference...... If ANY application wants to do something, then the processor will stop using Folding@Home and concentrate on the application.... Like I said, you wouldn't notice it's there....
  7. Sorry guys, I believe it is an embedded link.. e.g. "iexplore.exe; http://www.hotmail.com" or something This means, it will *always* execute IE for Hotmail....
  8. The idea of the software, is that it runs whenever your PC is on - you won't notice the performance difference if it was working or not.... As for Team members? I'm not sure - as people haven't replied to this post (apart from you...)
  9. When you are just browsing the net, or word-processing - are you *really* using all of your computer's resources?? Put those spare resources (CPU power, memory etc) to a GOOD CAUSE. Stanford University has a distributed-computing project, all about protein folding - and they need your *spare* unused computer-power to help them. It's a project contributed to by 1000's of Teams - or you can do it individually - who are contributing to the computation of very technical and detailed experiments.. Read more about it here -> http://folding.stanford.edu/ How to join... 1. Download the client at http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html (Or directly here for XP - http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/release/Folding@Home503.EXE ) 2. When it asks for Team Number - type in 42023 3. Just forget it's there! It will download data to process, and do it in the background - you won't even know it is there, as it is on the lowest priority for the CPU. When it's finished, it will upload the results to Stanford's Server - and then download a new set of data to compute ;)) Clients available for: Windows (all) MacOSX Linux Happy Folding! Questions? Just post below :D :: Phaze ::

    Racism

I must admit, when I first read an article from The Onion, I was fooled - then I caught on, and slapped myself for being so silly.... :"> I will never forget an article about Stephen Hawking, and his revamped Wheelchair - it was a rocket-suit (The type of gadget Bond has....) - so he could get up stairs!!! And there was another one, claiming Bill Gates used to be a Window Cleaner - and Linus Torvalds (sp?) used to be a Penguin zoo keeper.....lmao

    Racism

Typical, The Onion do a mockery :D Gotta love that website.
  12. This is turning into a "spot-the-difference" competition.... WE ALL KNOW THE LAST PIC IS A FAKE....
  13. Or it's hosted on ADSL line (256Kb upload)..... not a big fat data-centre pipe
  14. You'd be supprised how much you know about something when it's been your hobby for years...... Ask yourself random questions about bike - and you'll see what I mean... you'll soon jog your memory about bike facts which you had forgotten.... Like what was the hot Rock Shox product of 1998? How much Pace Race forks were when they first hit the market? How wide handle bars used to be, compared to now, etc etc... When did free-riding and Street start appearing? And digging around old MTB magazines is fun too - you laugh at the ridiculous price of what was considered *amazing* bleeding-edge technology... :: Phaze ::
  15. Of course the last one is photoshopped - look at the shadow on the windscreen of the green cab.... And the blurred floor, beneath the truck? And the stupid angle of the truck? And the lack of red cone in the foreground? Whoever believes this is stupid.... Made me laugh though :D) Very Irish...
  16. The day I took my theory, was the day they changed the questions (August 2001).....b!stards! Still got 35/35 (Y) And passed first time with 0 Minors :( And then wrote off my parents car one week later......
  17. Right, here we go - this is what I would have on an XP machine... Anti-Virus - Kaspersky Personal 5.0 Why? It's the best have by far - it can update every hour with new virus definitions... It also scans P2P file transfers - which other have lack. Chat - GAIM (Gnome AOL Instant Messenger) - an open-source chat program (mutli-platform). Supports: MSN/Yahoo/ICQ/IRC and a whole host of others..... very very good. Security - Windows Update - get the latest updates, as they are essential (Y)) Get SP2 too - if your key is *cough* blacklisted, then PM me for a genuine one (which works with SP2...) Music - Winamp or iTunes File Sharing - Shareaza - the big daddy of all P2P programs on Windows platform Graphics - Photoshop CS Spyware Protection - Spybot Search & Destroy - a program highly recommended by many professional websites and magazines. I use it on Windows, and works a charm :() Internet - FireFox - I don't think I need to say anymore..... CD/DVD Authoring - Nero Burning Rom - highly praised by many :S) Defragmentation of Hard Disk - O&O Software Defrag Professional Edition - works far better than the native Microsoft one. Find a serial or something on Google.... Any other applications?
  18. If you like that sort of game, then yeah it is :P) HL2 takes my vote for the "Best Game of 2004" :)
  19. Are they the ones which fit *inside* your ear, like a rubber plug, and block out all outside noise? I had some like that - Sony ones - and they rocked :P)

    Domains

Very true, very true. A hosting company would be suicidal to offer "Unlimited" bandwidth/resources... They may allow you to use a maximum of 5% of the bandwidth at any one time - which may not seem much - but they have big fat fibre-optic connections in data-centes (5Gb/s or something sick. I know Google uses 2.3Gb/s....) ... and you'd struggle to fill this. They say "Unlimited" becuase they *know* that you couldn't possibly overload their systems -
  22. The one on the left is my friend's ex. Apparently, they used to be shagging to hard, that the Uni built an extra thick wall on one side of his room (By the wardens office.. in halls..)
  23. They don't work in Baa Bar's with me, and they're back at home now - returning when term starts......although they're moving out to another house :D I know shit-loads of fit girls here in Canterbury - the ratio of guys:girls = 1:4 (so we're in high demand.......)
  24. Jenn24.... my god she's on the hotlist here! :D
  25. Do housemate's count instead of buff sisters?
