And how many people use MSN here, compared to IRC or Yahoo? I reckon T-F should host an IRC daemon on their server.....
  2. Since when does it shorten the life of your computer significantly? Your CPU has a maximum temperature at which it can safely run at. My AthlonXP 2400+ can safely run at 85'C, I believe (although I'm NEVER going to let it get there!) as recommended by AMD. They warranty the CPU for 3 years, and assume that your CPU is running 100% 24/7/365 @ maximum 85'C. Since you're CPU is not at 85'C (or there abouts....), theoretically, the CPU will last longer..... longer than the warranty. I've had my CPU for 3 years now - overclocked to 200Mhz x 11 1.85V (2.2Ghz), when it should be at 133Mhz x 15 @ 1.65V (2.0Ghz). It has been running for months 24/7, mostly at 100% (folding annonymously)..... Basically, you have nothing to worry about.
  3. Try here -> http://www.pchell.com/support/ <- might have a solution to the problem. Your homepage is being *hijacked* by some spyware - they can be a real bitch to remove sometimes.... :: Phaze ::
  4. I thought he was refering to this thread, sorry.... and I have checked the guestbook too. A bot has roamed through your guestbook, and automatically inserted the comment in it. There's not much you can do, apart from change the robots.txt file..... if it's not bots then it's just someone who's written their adverts on the post. Yes it's immoral - but they don't care, sadly. Just needs Admin to regularly scan the adverts to delete posts like that.
  5. Anyone noticed the scores? At time of writing: Xbox: 11 PS2: 28 PC: 17 Now, judged on the scores of the poll so far - which would you choose? Can a majority be wrong?
  6. Being on the bleeding edge of loosing control..... ......And not loosing it. *Just* making that gap... Bombing down a hill @ 40Mph, with sh!t brakes... You get the gist >_<
  7. I'll second that. I'll second that. I'll second that, I'll second that. I'll second that too... Do we have cloned brains? ←
  8. You mean our posts seem like adverts, or your ad-ware is making them into adverts?

"Media Jamming" - where someone copies a website/advert/other form of media - and completely changes the intended message. I.E - the website layout is the same as http://www.apple.com - but the text is not what you would expect.... A trick used by website defacers, if they wish to portray a message on their victims website. Eg. microsoft.com displaying links to Linux distribution downloads.... or a Butcher's website, with links to Vegitarian sites.... get the picture?
  10. Are you sure this is for the Xbox? Looks like a "live-linux" CD to me.... The Xbox Linux distrobution has always allowed you to play games. ... Check http://www.xbox-linux.org/FAQ And all your Xbox Linux questions will be answered.... hopefully.
  11. Yeah, it's spyware.... The program scans every webpage (probably) and searches for specific words. When it finds "home" in this example, it automatically highlights the words, and inserts a link.... Run Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html (make sure you UPDATE it, within the program!) And it *should* cure most headaches.... although some ad-ware likes to hide deep in your registery...

Where did you find that? *chuckle* *chuckle* Perfect example of "Media Jamming" for those studying Media Studies/and related courses....
  13. So rumour has it, yes.... http://www.xbox2-news.com/content.php?content.1
  14. http://playstation2-linux.com/ I bought the kit for it (N)) Available from various online retailers, or direct from sony-europe. And for the Xbox... http://www.xbox-linux.org/ And this for DivX..... http://www.broadq.com/ :: Phaze ::
  15. Since when? They still produce them! You'll find they're actually designed for the adult hands, as this was their intended market. They have been ergonomically designed for young male hands. If you have small hands ( :D ) you can buy some kid's controllers... XBoxes are nothing more than IBM PC Clones @ 733Mhz x86 CPU/128Mb RAM SDRAM/64Mb nVidia GeForce 3. Which is nothing........ Technically, PS2s are designed from the ground-up for games - as opposed to a slimmed down PC. They have more resources dedicated for graphics, despite their slower 299Mhz R3000 RISC CPU. Yeah, the next PS3 is apparently (don't hold me to that, it's what I read somewhere - and it stuck in my mind...) 12x more powerful than the PS2. :: Phaze :: PS... I've got a PS2 :-... with Linux running on it, as well as for games/dvds :D
  16. It might be a misconfiguration of MBM5. MBM5 switches round the System Temp and CPU Temp by default on my motherboard..... which is annoying (N)
  17. http://www.j51.com/~sshay/tcpip/ip/ip.htm http://www.blogontheweb.com/ccna/archive/2...02/16/3667.aspx http://www.thenetworkadministrator.com/hac...tAddressing.htm There's loads of stuff on Google about subnetting. Just depends on how technical you want to get/can understand..... :: Phaze :: As for the router problem, sounds like a dodgy DHCP server. It may be set by default - for some mad reason.... - to refresh IPs every 2m (120s) or something? Try flashing the Firmware, or resetting the system to factory settings....
  18. 1. Ask yourself *WHY* do you want to overclock? 2. Do you understand the performance gains which you *may* recieve? 3. Do you have high quality hardware, which will be capable of running at faster-than-spec speeds? 4. Do you have sufficient cooling to cool said componants? (I've got WATER flowing around my computer, as air wasn't sufficient!) Before you do ANYTHING - read. Read. Read! Check Google. www.overclockers.com www.bit-tech.net www.ocuk.com www.extremeoverclocking.com Loads of others, too many to mention.

    Sempron 2400+

    I'm running an Athlon XP 2400+ @ 200Mhz x 11 (unlocked! Wohoo! - default: 133Mhz x 15) @ 1.85V under a Danger Den waterblock (N) 35'C MAX he he
  20. Doh! So it is, I'm getting confused.... :">

No, you need an Operating System which supports an *identical* or *as-good-as* program which you have at Uni/Home. Use OpenOffice.org for your files (which is M$ Office compatable....) as OO.org runs on XP, Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris and MacOSX......... beat that M$ for cross-platform compatability!!! :: Phaze ::
  22. Low end Semprons are just rebadged Athlon XP T-Bred 'B's.... http://techreport.com/reviews/2004q3/sempron/index.x?pg=1 The 3100+ is a Socket 754 64bit CPU... Socket 462 still has life left in it - my next upgrade will be 64bit CPU in a year or 2 - when 64bit computing actually takes a mainstream reality (hell, the next Windows - Longhorn - isn't even 64bit......) As I'm on Linux, you could argue that an upgrade now would be wise (Many distributions are releasing a 64bit version of their Linux OS) - but I argue against - as most applications are still 32bit.. Provided he has sufficient cooling, and a CPU capable of 200Mhz FSB Er..... what? It's called a 64bit CPU for a reason.... all 64bits work when needed. You're getting confused - 64bit CPUs can run in 32bit mode if needs be :() i.e. It will run 64bit Linux and 32bit Linux/Windows You'd be supprised the increase in floating-point calculations with the 50% increase in FSB
  23. The difference between 5% load (rarely do you use 100% for longer than a few seconds) and 100% load. It's a very good stress test for you overclockers out there... Mine runs at 32'C (XP2400+ @ 200x11 @ 1.85V) under load..... ....... how?..... ...... Water cooling :(
