  1. Bit uncool I know, what with all your guitars and drums and stuff, but here's my little baby(A King 3B, but not my exact one). Haven't played mine for over three years now unfortunately, but that's what uni does for you.

  2. Have a good look at Facom and King Dick tools as well. They seem to be at least on a par with Snap On from the verdicts of the maintenance techs at the company I work at during the hols.

Best thing to do is probably go down to your local engineering spares supplier and have a word with them. They'll know what's good for what you want to pay (assuming you want quality stuff - a decent 1/2" socket set will cost at least a hundred quid for a decent size range).

  3. How old are you?

    22

    What made you join Trials-Forum?

    Recommendation from other users

Are you, or have you been a member of another Internet forum? Which one? What made you join?

I'm a member of the Loughborough Rocksoc forum. I joined cos it was the easiest way to keep up to date with goings on within the society, and another good place to waste time.

How often do you use Internet forums?

    Daily at least

Do you use forums specifically for getting answers to questions and discussing relevant topics, or do you use them to chat to friends as well (chit chat)?

Mostly use TF for chit chat now as i've given up trials pretty much.

Have you found yourself sat in front of an Internet forum for more than an hour, sifting through posts just to keep yourself entertained?

    Yup.

Have you ever had an Internet forum as a homepage?

    Nope.

Have you ever had anal sex?

    Not to my knowledge.

As a member of an Internet forum, do you feel like you belong to some sort of community?

    Pretty much.

Define the word community in your own words

A group of likeminded people who are linked in some way.

Do you feel you are a part of a community? (not trials forum)

    Erm yes i suppose so.

    Cheers,

    Andy

  4. Autocad Streaming Trial

This was something I tried for my sister when I was looking for a version of Autocad for her a while back. If your internet connection is fast enough it's worth a look, but it takes about an hour for it to set itself up properly from what I remember (fraid i can't remember what our internet connection was at the time)

best thing though is that it's direct from Autodesk themselves.

    edit:

It's also quite slow, cos you're effectively running a remote desktop connection, with all the processing taking place at the server end i think

  5. I have though used a deeper pictched thread on the tool which makes it stronger then most you can buy. The 'standard' thread is usually 1mm pitch but I used 1.75 :D

    :ermm:

Not saying anything else cos i remember posting a load of poo when trying to help last time.

It looks like a nice job - i especially like the fact you knurled that bit of it :P

    Andy

  6. But they'd tell you to say that though if you had got it  :ermm:

Anyhoo, I've properly crashed and/or burned out of the UCAS system this year (at least I know now so I don't have to worry my way through the summer :P), so I think I might be moving to Windsor to live with my brother, and try and get a job at a bike shop somewhere.  I work at one at the moment, and I actually enjoy it.  When it gets to 3pm and it's a bit quiet it can get a bit sorta tetchy, but in general I do actually sort of look forward to doing it.

Don't give up on uni just cos you've made a mess of UCAS. You've always seemed like a fairly intelligent sort, what with the discussions with Joel and suchlike, and it'd be a waste to not get a degree under your belt, as it's always useful for something to show future employers that you're capable of being analytical, especially something like a degree in English, which for some reason i believe is quite highly valued in any kind of consultancy where people have already shown that they have the ability to extract meaning from a situation.

Wandered off the topic, anyway - i'm doing engineering at Loughborough. Currently want to be a technician somewhere for a couple of years cos i've met too many snotty nosed graduates who wouldn't understand the difference between a spanner and a grease gun yet think they're God's gift to the world. Always good to get some practical experience under your belt in my view before heading up the ladder.

    Andy

P.S. Phil you are going to become an engineer. I'm not going to let you not be :D :P"

  7. If your doors and doorframes are fairly sturdy, just take the bar that connects the handle to the latch mechanism out, then shut the door. If your doors are flimsy, don't do this cos a pissed mate will try to open it and break the door or frame.

  8. If you just want to play Westlife in bed then fair enough

    :"> You caught me out.

Actually, i'm not averse to a bit of high volume now and again, but my primary aim is for really clear sound at a level where tinitus isn't an issue. I am a newcomer to HiFi having bought a set up for 60 quid off ebay just to see if i liked it. (Marantz amp, denon cd player, with the added bonus of my dad's beefy 30 year old 3 way rank wharfedale speakers). I was impressed by the power of the bass and clarity of sound compared with both my old aiwa mini system and my i-trigue 2.1 speakers. It really is amazing how much better a cd sounds when played through dedicated stuff.

    A converted Andy

  9. My thinking is that I want a pure stereo amp because it's going to be (an admittedly 1 year late) coming of age 21st birthday present, and I want to get something that is going to last for a long time. Stereo technology seems pretty stagnated at the moment, so an amp bought now will still be good in a few years time, whereas if I buy a multichannel amp, i'll be wanting a newer better one in a few years.

I'll take a look at the avland right now

I'm after a really good quality sound, rather than one that is just stupidly loud, so the PA idea is out the window.

Cheers for your help and advice so far.

  10. Make sure you turn the computer off first.

Installing/removing stuff from PCI slots when the computer on tends to cause sparks! Actually take the plug out of the wall too, exspecially if your computer is anything like mine, and it turns itself back on after a power cut. For some reason it thinks that installing a PCI card is the same as recovering from a power cut, and turns the computer back on, Needless to say, it scared the crap out off me the fiirst time it happened!

Best off leaving the plug in the wall, but turning the power switch next to if off. That way the computer is still grounded and any static electricity you have built up will discharge to the case and flow away harmlessly.

  11. According to this story , Ken Livingstone happened to say that the way Evening Standard journalists treated him put him in mind of a guard from a concentration camp. Fine you think, but the reporter happens to be Jewish, and so feels hurt, despite being too young to have experienced any of the atrocities perpetuated by the Nazis during the Holocaust. Would it have been the same if he said he felt like he was being 'thrown to the lions' to a christian journalist? That, oddly being a phrase which has entered fairly regular use.
  12. The world average's at 1 metre per second....

    Soooo, thats 60 metre's a minute.

    60x60 = 360

therefore you walk 360 metre's an hour.

    1610 metre's to a mile.

    1610 / 360 = 4.722

    Therefore....

    On Average....

    We walk at.....

    rounded up.....

    5mph.

    :D

    60 x 60 = 3600 metres/hour

then you want to divide it by the number of metres in the mile, which you say is 1610.

    so you get (metres/hour)/(metres/mile)

remember the fraction your dividing by turn upside down and multiply,

so you get 3600/1610 = speed in miles/hour or mph

which is 2.23 ish assuming you walk at 1 m/s
