can i be cheeky and ask what health problem you have? ive seen you mention it, and good luck with your surgery! you say its kept you off the bike but you ride far healther than most people by the looks of it! awesome stuff.

They never figured out what's wrong, but I get muscle fatigue super quickly. I can use a mouse on the computer for 15min and after that my arm is just seized up. It got a lot better after taking vitamin/mineral supplements and cutting a lot of sugar from my diet over the last few years. But I still cannot use a mouse :P
When I warm up properly I can ride decently, but I have to be careful not to stretch too far or I get the same problem, mostly with my shoulders. So I just end up doing stuff I can do with relatively ease.
I do have to pull my hands from the handlebars whenever I want to let go, they tend to get stuck in a claw kind of grip :P

The surgery is unrelated though. They actually messed up the anesthesia and had to cancel the surgery, ruining all plans I had made 6 months ago. Hurray for dutch doctors.

  2. 19 shows per week?! That's insane haha.
It's a bit sad that this forum doesn't seem as supportive for non-uk riders, but I think it's great you're giving the sport a spotlight in this kind of environment.

When backwheeling stuff with the back brake locked there's a lot of room for error, you can be pretty sloppy and get away with it because as soon as you hit he edge your job is done. But you'll need pretty good manuals to do them up stuff and hold it. As soon as your tyre touches down you need to know whether you're too far forward or back and adjust accordingly.

Maybe the mod geo exaggerates it but you seem to sit quite high in a manual, try bending your legs and leaning back more.

This seems to be the manual spot on this bike, on the bmx I did have way better manual posture which was quite far back, with the front wheel a lot closer to the ground. I'll try leaning back further on my next ride but last time I tried it wasn't very stable.

Your front looks a bit high, you'll always have to adjust when you land on something but you're not really moving. That means you're not struggling with height, you just need to have the front a bit lower then if it drops just pump your legs a bit. You're basically approaching it like you're backwheeling it, but without a brake. You need to be more careful if you're manualling, especially on a mod where it's so small and twitchy. I'm assuming you can already manual properly, just move your weight about more to react to what the bike's doing.

Yeah it's incredibly twitchy haha, way less stable than on a bmx. I can't really say I can manual consistently yet, but it's getting there.
I am just backwheeling without a brake yeah, whenever I see videos of other people doing it it seems to be just that :P
But I'll try pumping a bit more, that does make sense.
After years of attempting manuals I learned that my main mistake was not applying pressure on the pedals, so that might be the key here as well.
    Thanks!

  5. I'm making some progress on manuals, but the manual spot is so damn awkward that I really don't know how to do a bunnyhop manual onto anything higher than a curb.
You can see my manual spot is quite awkwardly upright, I'm guessing because the frame is on the long side.

Or perhaps my technique is just wrong and In need to lean backwards more?

It won't - you can't fit a 4-piston Magura caliper with a 160mm rotor unless it's on post mount, unfortunately.  It just doesn't clear the adaptor.

    Ahh that's what I feared :(

But a 180mm disc will work? I saw the 180mm adapter should have a lot more clearance. Though the power might be kinda overkill. I just don't wanna lay down double the price for the other disc brakes out there :P

Looks like a tiny adapter. +20 fork? Small rotor? Your rotor is on backwards and it's eating away at me.

Haha woops, I cleaned the rotor and must have put it back on the other way around :P
The adapter I have isn't on tartybikes anymore, it looks like this one in silver

I have a echo urban 2013 mod fork and a 160mm disc btw.

    sure it isn't upside down?

I tried turning it upside down but then even the mt2 won't fit anymore :P

  8. There's a new one up!

I was thinking a video covering the different trials moves might be interesting for viewers that don't come from a trials background.
I remember as a beginner that I couldn't identify the difference between a pedal hop and a bunnyhop. So it might be interesting for them to learn which moves are best used in different scenario's.

  9. I'm running a 160mm mt2 on the front of my mod. The brake is quite honesty a danger to my well being :P Slips all over the place. Is the mt2 just too weak for trials, or should I try to give it a bleed? I can get an mt5 for €80 which is not too bad as an alternative.

  10. Alright it took a while but the bike is up and running

I'm surprised everything still seems to work well, except for the front brake which slips quite bad. It's a 160mm mt2, so I'm not sure if it's just weak or if it will need to bed in.

I also still need to get the chain tensioner bolt out somehow that's stuck in the frame, but fortunately I was able to fit the chain perfectly for now.

The front end is crazy high but it does help, it does feel like the frame is too long but it's still doable.
I can't ride more than 30min before my joints are too sore, but I'm satisfied with that for now. I hope my muscles will take over some of the stress after I get back into a bit of better shape.

And yeah the color scheme is horrible :P

Thanks for all the help guys!

Sounds like you want to set your bike up like mine...?

A shorter stem and high rise on mine made the world of difference. Bunny hops are a little better now, and It feels better suited for me and what I want. I still need a shorter frame... I am saving for an alias.

    Looks lovely!

Having seen some people bunny hop huge walls on a normal mod (with trials bars and stem angle), I don't get the entire "my bike isn't steety enough to bunny hop it" discussion.

I have tried to bunny hop a stock bike and it didn't work but it seems to me that people on mods bunny hop rather than pedal up obstacles. I thought that all mods where bunny hop machines.

I could bunnyhop decently,  but I had to shift my weight super aggresively.  On a bmx it's a lot more comfortable,  especially the lower back gets an easier time. It's all about making it less taxing on my knackered body :P

My parts should arrive this monday.  I started assembling the bike again today,  I think the headset and bottom bracket are fine after some cleaning and lube,  but the freewheel has a grinding feeling to it.  I don't have money for a new freewheel so I'll see if it holds up :P
