  1. Sweet video! Riding was nuts, and really liked some of the more 'Manifesto' lines in there (e.g. the block to U-pipe thing to spool to tyre line). Thought the edit was cool too. It felt a lot different to your other vids from Barrow, and there were just some really nice ideas in there.

Pretty much my thinking too. I was getting a little bit bored (no offense) of all your Barrow vids, but this one's really freshened things up - there were some really interesting lines in there (I liked the ones with the pallet on its end, for example) and the riding was really clean and solid.

  2. Let's not forget that there have also been sweeping cuts across some branches of the military where people have actually lost their jobs as a result. It's hard to see how conscription or national service would be justified in the face of that.

But yeah, even if it does happen, as Luke pointed out - national service doesn't necessarily mean going to war. It doesn't even necessarily mean military service (although from what I understand in this case, it probably does); a friend of mine in Germany had to do national service (his was the last generation to have to do it) and lived and worked for a year in an old people's home rather than join the army. Even if this proposed national service was purely military service, there are a lot of non-combat military roles that would most likely be filled with national service 'recruits' - it would only be in the case of a large-scale war that these people would actually be called upon to fight (as seen in WWI and WWII, for example), which in this day and age is pretty unlikely.

I have to admit, when I first read the OP's post and links, I felt a bit sad and a bit threatened, but after looking into it further and considering it logically, I think it's extremely unlikely and will now pretty much forget about it.

  3. I got a Hex after having ridden seatless trials bikes for years and loved it. It took me a couple of rides to get used to the differences in geo and handling, but after that it was fine. I still have both bikes and switch between them according to what sort of riding I'm doing. I find that riding the Hex has really helped my bike handling on the Echo, and that having ridden comps and more trialsy stuff helps with the trials side of the street stuff I ride on the Hex. I've even ridden a few comps on the Hex and really enjoyed it! I still really enjoy riding both bikes, but if I had to choose just one, it would be the Hex - it's a great all rounder! I definitely recommend getting one if you're thinking about riding more streety stuff but still want to be able to do the more trialsy stuff as well.

Also, shameless plug: I am selling my Hex (to replace it with a 24" bike), but not got round to posting it up here yet, so if you do want one, let me know. It's Team spec, in very good condition and I have a few optional extras. If you're interested, let me know and I'll get photos and a price up (Y)

  4. yea man the orange zero was one of the best frames goin back in 2001/2002 :) he was an ex world champion and i dont remember him riding for GT? that was hans ray!

Yeah I don't remember him riding for GT, but he was world champ, and the Zero is legendary!

Pretty sure he did ride for GT for a bit - isn't he riding a GT in the video above? That's the video I had in mind when I wrote that post anyway.

I'd almost forgotten about him riding for Orange! I remember a feature in MBUK of him riding in the Alps (?), going onto the roof of a hut on a Zero way back when. One of the coolest things I'd seen in the mag!

EDIT: In fact, after a closer look, that looks like his 14" (!) Zero stickered up as a GT.

  5. Pretty boring for a Red Bull video. Feel Ali could do a far better job though I'm pretty clueless about this Petr Kraus guy?

Lol, n00b. Petr Kraus is a pretty old school rider - used to ride for GT. He was World Champion in something like 1994. He was much more prolific (and a bit better) 'back in the day', but seems to concentrate more on shows, adventure stuff and Red Bull stuff these days in much the same way that other riders of that era (Lance Trappe, Ryan Leech, Martyn Ashton, etc.) do.

  6. Feeling very irritable today, ankle feels generally stiff and achey, neck is killing for some reason, I'm bloody red hot and my work jeans seem to have shrunk and feel tight and uncomfortable.

This all sounds like me when I'm over tired. Every single bit of it, even down to the hating how your jeans feel on you. Have you been getting enough sleep lately?
