Rim Grinding is done by large proportion of trials riders these days. The rim sidewall (the braking surface) is 'ground' to roughen the surface. This provides more friction which in turn gives better braking power. This is especially useful in wet weather, for example 'natural riding'.

Doing so correctly massively improves the bite of ( rim ) brakes and the desired end result should look like this :

step one. get angle grinder

step two. introduce angle grinder to rim

Hold increased, teeth saved from the horror that is a smooth rim on a wet day.

no not really i got smooth rim and i go out when its raining and i still have my teeth
