As it says im looking for some new brakes for the DH bike but don't know what to get, im thinking hope but don't know wich hope ones to get.

they mush have 203 front and rear, or 180 rear not too fussed.

if anyone could help me with some suggestions i would be very grateful.

price isn't that important as i have a decent amount to spend but the cheaper the better obvs.

thanks (Y)

Avid Elixir's, power is somewhere between a Code and a Juicy7, probs closer to the Code but a hell of a lot lighter. The Hopes are ok, powerful, but the new levers look hideous, over built and industrial. I'm currrently running a set of Code callipers with Juicy Utlimate levers and they work amazingly, the elixirs ive used have felt just as good but even lighter again. Cant go wrong.

Shimano (Y)

I have the XT M775 brakes on my mountain bike and they are awesome! I am running 180mm front and 160mm rear and was very impressed with them when I rode in The Alps last summer (Although there were a couple of times when I would have been even happier with bigger rotors hehe)

If you want to go overkill you could check out the Saint brakes.

I don't know the model number but I presume Tic is talking about the newest XT servo wave discs. They're awesome. I've got the SLX ones which are basically the same but a bit cheaper and I love 'em. Super powerful, very reliable and as near to maintenance-free as you can get.

I'm just waiting for someone to try them on a trials bike - I reckon they would be awesome because they've got more bite that Shimano brakes have had in the past, presumably due to the servo-wave goodness.

Tomm knows where its at :)

They also do Saint and XT brakes without the Servo-Wave system so make sure you get the brakes with Servo-Wave.

bigman is running a xt servo wave lever atm, feels all mushy for some reason. and alsmot feels like it has a two stage lever because of the servo wave. dunno how it would be with an xt calliper aswell.

What caliper is he running at the moment then? And yeah, they do feel a bit mushier than normal brakes, but that's because you're getting more leverage and therefore more power. I suppose the lever feeling is a preference thing - personally I love the modulation you can get out of them (I have ever since the XT V-brakes first came out), but some people seem to hate squishy brakes.

got to be either juicy 7s or hope m4's

the M4's are so powerfull but they must be bedded in properly

if you budjet is big enough take a look at the M6 hope dont make them any more so you will be looking around ebay for some

I'm going to bat for the English camp and say a pair of Vented Hope Moto V2's. My mates got them on his DH bike and they could stop a house. Not cheap though.

im seriously concidering the v2's but im waiting for some good reviews to pop up, they hava not been around for too long so would like to see good feed back on then before i buy.

theyve been around for a year or two.

or 4.

They're amazing brakes. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Kits.aspx?ModelID=31562

shimano's new saints are good and they luck great aswell. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Kits.aspx?ModelID=27689

Avid codes are on the heavy side but they will stop you very very fast. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=25855

elixrs i can't comment on but i do like the look of them. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=29728

juicy 7's, maybe the standard ones but the ultimates or carbons just aren't going to take the beating of DH. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=22187

other options,

If your ver rich, formula the one brakes, quite small but insane amounts of power. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Kits.aspx?ModelID=23885

Magura gustav's which claim to be the best DH/freeride brake around. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=24411

The new hayes strokes have increadiably increased power and looks to match. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=31412

I really don't like XT or XTR hydraulics especially for DH but thats my own opinion.

Hope the links help,

Davey
