Trials Biking For Duke Of Edinburgh

I'm really trying to get into trials. Iv got a Zona Zip with a broken brake front brake and no bash guard so if anyone knows of where i can find one i would be really grateful. I ride pretty regularly and im trying to get trials riding accepted as part of my gold duke of edinbourgh as that would be amazing, has anyone ever done this before?

The actual award says that we need to be under part of a professional group or club, but do these actually exist?

Im doing D of E too, the seem to be pretty slack with checking if its a proper club, aslong as you have some proof of you doing it (e.g. pictures or videos) you should be fine, although I guess it depends what your assesor's like :)

i'm doing d of e aswell mate, never tried to do trials for it though. if you manage that'd be too sick.

most d of e stuff, they dont really check on. if you get like a video before and after the time, like showing your improvement. i reckon that'd be enough.

but i would still check with your rep

Im looking into it and there might be a way forward with it, they are possibly bringing out a new Scheme with duke of Edinburgh, in which you do not actually need a professional assessor to meet up with. Instead you just log the amount you do and send video's and pictures to either your D of E leader or an assessor online.

There is a possibility that this is going to happen, our leader is going to a meeting on some information about it, but this will be great if it happens.

However fortunately for me a club has just opened up for our school, and we are getting a professional in to teach us, but although it will be beginner standards she will still be someone to assess trials biking.

where abouts in derbyshire you from?

have a vote :)

Im from Melbourne, near Chellaston. Where do you ride?

This sounds like a pretty sensible idea to me - some of the people on the course when I did my DofE at school did some pretty pointless or silly stuff.

If it turns out that you do need some official signatures and stuff you could come along to a few Tyke Trial rounds (why not the whole season? :P ) and we'd be happy to sign it off for you. You could submit results sheets, links to reports and photos etc. as your evidence. I can't remember exactly how DofE works, it's over ten years since I did mine - do you have a DofE assessor? Do they need to witness you actually doing the activity?

Anyway - good luck getting it sorted, I think it's a great idea! If you need any advice/help getting it organised (emails to assessors, stuff like that), email me at membership@biketrialuk.co.uk and let me know (Y)

Finally. I have managed to hopefully sort out trials biking for Duke of Edinburgh. There has been a 6 week trials club in my school run by Joe Oakley and hopefully this has meant that from now on I will only need video evidence to send to someone qualified.

So for Christmas I have ordered a Kodak Playsport to do some filming. Does anyone else use a Kodak for filming trials?
