Our Gas Tank Got On The News Today

Me and my girlfriend moved down to West Wales on Wednesday, found a nice house at the bottom of a lane with a small stream running through the garden. Today, we are at my girlfriends parent's house when my Dad called to tell me the gas tank (huge 1000 litre LGP thing) at our new house had floated away. The gas tank was previously sitting on a concrete plinth which must be 1m above the normal level of the steam, but apparently the river went up 14 ft.

Pretty unbelievable, driving back it was totally dry, almost sunny within about 2 miles of where I live. Driving into the village it started hammering it down and there were huge floods running down the hills. Came back to find our gas tank washed about 200m away, down a little path and tied to a tree.

Luckily our neighbour put sand bags around our back door to stop the water getting in - must buy him some beers!

Anyway, heres the quote from the news

There were reports of a LPG heating tank which had floated away with the surge' date=' Specialist Fire Crews located and secured this to ensure the continued safety of members of the public.[/quote']

And a picture taken from a bridge, you can just see the tank in there tied to a tree. Looking at the debris on it the water must have been almost over the top of the wooden fence.

I feels it too... Today I headed out into the countryside to meet some mates to go climbing, the most fun bit I had all day was walking the 2.5 miles between the bus stop and the crag and back on my own. Oh so very old.
