Mac Mini Computer

Hey people,

I'm looking at getting a new pc as my one now is so slow its becoming unusable. Has anybody here got or tried a Mini Mac? By the looks of it, its exactly the same as a mac computer, just on your own monitor. The one ill want to get only has 2GB RAM. Is that enough to do stuff like editing HD ect? This is my main concern about it. I'd love a iMac but cant justify 1000 pounds at the moment!

Any help would be awesome,

Thanks,

Sam :)

2GB RAM isn't really enough to edit on...

I'd say look for one with 4GB, should be able to listen to music or maybe watch a movie on a second monitor whilst editing.

I have 8GB and it's a bit overkill, if I'm honest. Lovely render speed, though. ;)

try pcspecialist, though. You'll get a lot more out of your money than you will if you get one from PC World or Curries. and it's totally custom. ;)

Ive got that mac, and I can say that 2GB is definitely not enough for HD editing. Hell its not enough for just running the OS smoothly !

However 8GB cost me £30ish soooo dont bother spending the extra for the ever so slightly upped processor and graphics one.

Ive never tried to edit any video on it at all (I have a proper i7 pc with CS4 for that) but I cant imagine it being worth it if you were going to do a lot of it. It will play it all just fine on the lowly graphics spec one.

Its used in my house as a computer attached to the big flatscreen, and a music/video server to various airplay bits n bobs and iphones etc.

I have the first gen mini mac, I think, its quite a good little thing but I couldn't get on with the Apple operating system and use my PC mostly. The handy thing about the 1st gen one is it has a disc drive, dunno what's been done to mine but it belonged to the head programer at my dads work and runs flipping quick; so HD editing on one probably is possible but you might need to splash a litttle extra cash.

Slightly off topic, but i've just picked up the macbook air 13" with 4gb of ram, as it runs on flash storage and no hdd it's lightning fast, like crazy quick.

Also if you buy direct from apple using a student card they give you 14% off and a free £70 app store voucher, worth a thought.
