Car Insurance

as some of you might know, I now have a driving licence.

I was looking to get a small van to pootle about in, but the insurance seemed to be about £5000 from most places :- .

I am now looking to get an estate of some kind (any thoughts?) and was wondering if any one on here recomends anyone to insure it?

I am going to do a pass plus soon, that seems to knock about 50% off the cost.

Ta very much

admiral was 50% cheaper than almost anywhere else when i shopped around in december.

try www.confused.com to get rough idea's of who are generally the cheapest. after you know that, go to the cheap insurers directly on the internet and re-quote as it is normally even cheaper than the first quote on confused.

get me???

I've been quoted £1200 on a 1.6 306 XT.

I went on confused.com and did a search on there. They look at 20 different companies, and give you the results.

Don't take the price they say for gospel though. One of the companies quoted my £1150 on the search engine, but when I went onto their own page, I was quoted £1850.

Enter your details into as many search engines as you can. I've had 10 insurance companies ring me today, each trying to beat the last quote.

I started the day at £1233, and I am now at £1199, which is not a bad saving, considering it's cost me just a few extra minutes on the internet.

The best company for me so far has been insure-it-all, might be worth a look.

Oh, and always ring the company and ask if that price is the final price. It's not funny when you buy the car, and think you have one price for insurance, but then have to pay extra :-

a van is generally more to insure, as the cost of any goods (machinary, materials etc) which may be being transported are likely to be coverd too, as is the fact that theives may break into a van to see whats inside.

for about £1500 i recommend a peugeot 306. quite large, yet still a low insurance group. best engine is the 1.9diesel turbo option.

They don't mind the turbo word too much when its next to diesel. I have had a 306 diesel turbo sport for a year or so now, just about to re-new insurance but going fully comp in my own name. Looks like its going to cost about £850 (no pass plus, no no-claims bonus etc and a speeding conviction :P). Currently with directline.

lets get the roadtrips going.

i got quoted £1455 which is only about £50 more than i got quoted on a 1.3 escort

hmm wonder what i will have seeing as i paid £20 scrap value for the car :P

best advice i can to anyone when getting insurance is to make sure you Phone the comapny,

no matter what it says about internet deals being cheaper i have allways found that if you phone them they will be able to give you a better deal.

I echo that.

They always try and beat each other. It's deffinatly worth the hassle of them ringing for a few hours.

at the moment i pay £691 a year for my 306 dturbo, getting a gti6 and norwich union told me in so many words to get lost which was so nice of them...so just been on confused.com and i can get insured on the gti6 for £1468.95 with admiral!!! love it. main reason its so cheap is i have pass plus and 1 yrs no claims.
