Hey

Soo, I'm turning 18 this year. And I will be in need for a car, a funny car ;) hehe

My needs are, or what I want is:

Rearwheeldrift or 4x4, NOT FRONTWHEELDRIFT

100+ hp

Something that doesnt need constantly looking after and new parts to keep running.

Thats about it I guess :P

This is what I've looked at so far:

Mazda 929 2.0l 1984

Rearwheeldrive, may suit my needs?

Ford Sierra XR4x4 2.8l 1987

It's my uncle's car, so I'll get it fairly cheap off of him ;) Around 150hp, yellow Koni's for extra stiffness. But drinks alot of fuel :(

Well before you start getting to excited you need to think about the i word.

Its costing me about £1200 a year to be insured on a skoda felicia 1.9 diesel. thats a lot of money. Depending on when you passed your test, yours may be more or less. Also getting a car from before you were born is a bad idea. They will break down, and its more likely to be a major thing rather than an exhaust falling off etc.

You want to be looking at newer cars, also sorry but 100hp is not realistic for a first car (untuned). Not sure what the insurance/noclaims discount is like over there, but here the usual plan is to get a small car, get no claims discount and THEN buy a bigger car

dare i ask why you refer to it as rearwheeldrift, and front wheel drift. you mean front wheel drive etc???

also why do you need a 4wd/rwd car as opposed to FWD?? if its cos you wanna be like the people in tokyo drift, then i suggest you dnt bother with something like the mazda, just cos its RWD dont mean itll drift(why you would buy a car solely to drift, other than a field car i dnt know).

if your still intent on a drift car, and can insure an xr4x4i,(Which is 2.9, not 2.8). id suggest also lookin at the 2.8i xr4i(100cc less displacement, RWD car) will still drink fuel, but an xr4x4i wont drift, also if you can insure that, id perhaps suggest an old skool mkiii supra. a mk1 or mk2 mr2( a lot better than the mazda) or an old skool e30 beemer. all should be fairly cheap, and can soon be good fun for driftin.

Yea, Sorry for the mistake. Rear wheel drive was what I meant.

I will not try to drift like a pro, just pull the handbrake or give it a little beans in the corners. That kinda driving, just for fun you know...

I am NOT buying a car just to drift, I will use it as a transport vehicle. Thats the point in buying a car afterall, right...

And yes, the xr4x4 will go sideways. Been there, done that...

... In the passengers seat off course ;)

Ok, does anyone have any reccomandations to other cars?

Also, I'm not into buying such new cars really. Mostly because of their more expensive and so on =)

get something old, then you can get it on a classic car insurance :D

e30 beemer then, something around a 1988 - 1990, a lot more driftable than a xr4x4i( on british roads anyway, if your drivin gravel and dirt tracks, or loose gravel roads(as opposed to tarmac) then its different matter. but thats power sliding, as opposed to oversteer. which is a total different kettle of fish.

and a lot better as a transport vehicle than a sierra(comfier, nicer to drive, more stylish). and a lot better on fuel(engine dependant at least) and a lot better power:displacement ratio(i.e more bhp per cc)

or if you want 4 x4, could look at an early 90's subaru legacy. if they do them over there. did 2.2 quad cam bi turbo jobbies over here. where rapid, and are stupid cheap for like a 92 legacy now. not stylish, but then neithers the mazda, and these things are well rapid. (insurance is high over here, but if your lookin at an xr4x4i, i guess it nots an issue)

I do not want anything with 300hp as a first car.. Too extreme!

But how about Mercedes 190E? They've got rearwheeldrive aswell, anybody here who knows the pros and cons about them?

ceeertainly know about 190E's there very very very good cars, and seem to be bombproof the bloke up the road from me has one thats on 280k, and me an a mate where talking to someone that my mate knew. who had a 1988 190e, that was on 960k. (had obiviously had work done do it in that time, but still).

but there heavy, so are heavy on fuel, to get performance out of them, and are quite pricy on parts too. well over here they are at least.
