  1. Having spent many years living in the Southwestern states, I have a lot of experience with Tumbleweeds... But I don't get the reference? Can't be good though...
  2. Who will vouch for this man?
  3. The list as it stands now: West Coast: TTownJon (Seattle) Stock Modtire (Seattle) Mod Lucky13 (Seattle) Stock Toad (Eugene) ModAndyT (LA) Stock Midwest Mhoulmont (Petoskey/Kalamazoo, MI) Stock Nuckfut (Wisconsin) Stock Mikeyr89 (Madison, Wi) Stock South Ghost (Jacksonville) Stock No_seat_No_ed (Birmingham) Stock East Coast One Eye (Baltimore) Stock Bryan (Natick, MA) Stock Rupintart (Florida) Stock Canada Joey V (Brantford, ON) Stock CordyBoy () Mod Europe The Goat (Ireland) Stock England BenLeacock (Cumbria) Stock Ogre () Stock Tall_Rob () Stock RossMcD (Highland) Stock Alex Dark (Cornwall) Stock Ben Beynon (Cornwall) ModDan6061 (Buckinghamshire) Mod Australia/New ZealandStocktrials (Sydney) Stock Rush (Victoria) Stock Stikman (New Zealand) Stock Joe Brewer? Stock I need more mod riders and non-american stock riders. If you are on the list and are not interested please post.
  4. Alrighty- then. The M5 bolt that is the threaded component of the adjuster is in fact a grub screw, if and when it gets mangled, is can be taken apart. The TPA could be out of Steel, but I just didn't think it necessary. If it fails it can always be replaced with a M5 nut. The grub screw has upset threads on the very end so it stays stationary within the axle pusher. It really doesn't take much force to tighten a chain, it's just a challenge to keep it there. Snail cams can get dented and loose their position or get sloppy. This has a lot more surface area, and requires the thumb wheel to turn on an axis perpendicular to the axle to loosen.
  5. The photo of the frame on the jig is a Mod- The list for the mod is growing.
  6. +1 Trust me- the way I've got it set up works pretty damn nice.
  7. I guess it just worked out that way- I think I would be willing to go 160mm though, just not bigger.
  8. Yeah- i's not a new invention by any stretch of the imagination. Just 44's take on it. I'll take a close up- it's a clever little bit of fun, and it moves freely. Here's a rendering, I will get photos later... The frame shown is the smallest of the Mods. A custom job for an Elite rider in fact. The disc mount is 180mm. I just don't see myself making it any bigger...
  9. I edited my comment- The Horizontal dropout has it's own tensioner, and does not need a snail cam or what not. It's thumb wheel actuated- similar to a Magura TPA
  10. I do not wish to moderate the forming of the list, I haven't the ability to get to know most of these people. It is important that potential riders be cleared by the community at large, because it is the potential of loosing their chance to ride that is at the heart of the matter. If you have a suggestion for a potential rider, but they are not on the forum, they are not known well, there is a language barrier, or any other reason they can not speak for themselves. I suggest you have them either contact me directly or contact me yourself, so that we may discuss it further. Word to the wise: If you find yourself attempting to do vouch for others, make sure there are others who will vouch for you. As much as I would like to take all of you at your word, some random person vouching for another does not carry much weight unfortunately... However, a well put together letter (read email) of introduction and intent, goes a very long ways. Hinmaton- On another note- The Mod frame has it's own tension system and does not need snail cams and what-not. I would like to make the rear spacing 110mm?
  11. Point well taken... reckon- I will do both...
  12. Look 6 posts up for the Geo. I think the Mod' is going to be a disc only bike? 180mm to boot. For all those interested in the Mod, please come out of the woodwork. I need 12 riders total. US and Europe combined. In general Please update the list or post your info and what frame you are interested in (please pick one, it's only fair). The frames are in process, and this thing does not start until the list is full. FYI I am working on a flat fee rate for shipping... keep posted.
  13. I have decided to add a little to the concept.Everyone on the list will automatically be entered into a drawing to win one of the three frames. The winner will be randomly selected at the end of the project (I may even use a hat, or a helmet anyway...)That's a one in twelve chance of winning! Keep updated on the blog : http://www.44trials.com/2008/12/some-big-idea.html
  14. Sorry about that- @1.8kg on another note- it was proposed that the suggested mod geo. be discussed by those of you in the know, but as I have heard nothing I took a shot at it:
  15. Well there are two ways to accomplish better welds: Have someone else do it (read more expensive) or wait as my welds get better one frame at a time.
  16. Thanks Rob- in truth you're correct- any mechanical connection has inherent potential for play. Same as the connection of your Hope caliper. The beauty is for those interested, I have no problem making this a permanent connection. But for those who want to try disc or rather the purity of rim brakes only. it's as simple as two bolts. Cheers and happy new years!
  17. Jason222- the reach is @ 675mm if I remember correctly. FYI- the rider in the above pictures rides an Ozonys Cannibal. His comment after 3 days on the caelifera was: "this feels more balanced and tucks really well, my side hops got bigger...it also sits so well on the rear, and gets there so easily that I thought something was wrong with it the first time I brought it up, it just stays there... the rearend is really stiff, much stiffer than mine." The Ghost (otn)
  18. Jason, you are on both forums and this was not clear? read the posts... Or did you mean that I should send 2-3 frames to the UK? Um-no. If you are impatient for a frame, might I suggest buying one? Update for those who said the disc mount wouldn't work... Even with a little bit of weld in the way (will be fixed) it holds very well, no movement!
  19. The geo is going to be: 1085 depending on fork. +40BB 72HA 385stays (actually most of these are dependent on the fork) The frame should be on it's way by February at the latest I hope. There are a lot of slots open folks, I am not going to set up the schedule until the list is full. There is a chance that a mod will surface in Europe, but is going to depend on the list of potential riders.
  20. No doubt- it's a god damn good gig! So check out the official site: http://44trials.blogspot.com/
  21. The List: Australia/New Zealand Stocktrials (Sydney) Rush (Victoria) Stikman (New Zealand) Canada Joey V (Brantford, ON) West Coast: TTownJon (Seattle) Modtire (Seattle) Lucky13 (Seattle) Darkside (San Jose) He's getting his own soon enough- Midwest Mhoulmont (Petoskey/Kalamazoo, MI) Nuckfut (Wisconsin) Mikeyr89 (Madison, Wi) East Coast One Eye (Baltimore) Bryan (Natick, MA) Rupintart (Florida) Ireland The Goat England Adam@Tarty BenLeacock (Cumbria) says he wants his own! Ogre Tall_Rob RossMcD (Highland) Alex Dark (Cornwall) There are more spaces to fill and I want other countries represented.
  22. All that Ben has said is true, and he is going to act as a liaison of sorts. So: if you don't feel your question or idea is being addressed, seek him out. If I haven't mentioned it before, let me state it for the record. There will most likely be no Pro's who participate in this project as Pro's are under contract to only ride for there Sponsor. This is too bad, but probably the case. I do think that I will have a liability waiver that needs to be signed by all that participate. As far as the dent thing goes: Ride it like you own it, not like you stole it. I am looking for responsible people who care about the sport. It's an amazing frame- I really think you'll really enjoy riding it, whatever your skill level. FYI Ben is also right, Comp' riders have a better chance of getting on the list...
  23. The 44trials "takes on the world" project is slated to initiate late January 09- So far I have a pretty short list from Europe and the UK- I need you folks to start getting your rears in gear, or this is going to pass you by- For those that don't venture into OTN waters here is a exerpt as a result of some questions. This list applies to all forums- "Let's be clear: read the whole thread, many of your questions may be answered.what I am offering is not as confusing as it may seem, but unorthodox indeed.to date there is no formal list or order.this forum and others are serving to collect "riders" to create this list, create the order, and most importantly create the event.the time period per "rider" is to be 4 weeks.12 "riders" = @ one calendar year.there will be one frame for the Americas, one frame for Europe, possibly a third to float to further extremities.3 frames equal 36 "riders" or 12 "riders" per geographical region. Each rider will pay for the frame to get to them. Each rider is required to shoot video, photos, log in there experience, prepare the bike for shipment to the next "rider".The frame will come with a 128mm BB and a 1 1/8" headset with a split crown race. You will provide everything else. The video does not need to be edited, as it will be combined with all of the footage in a DVD set at the completion of the project.I do not plan to choose who the riders are, I would prefer the "riders" pick the most suitable 12 from their country/countries, but I do reserve the right to remove people from the list.If the folks from TF think that they can square up all 12 in the Kingdom alone... think again.I want to see other countries represented. If you think that your country or area is not being represented speak up and get involved or get your preferred forum involved.I only speak English, but that doesn't mean the frame can only go to English speaking countries. (find a translator). The frames are slated to be ready early 2009.The order will be determined after all 36 "riders" have been established, it will be based on ride season and proximity of next location. Keep in mind, it can and should be taken on road trips and large group rides, and exchanged with the next recipient.I fully expect this frame to be used in competitions, as that is what it is designed for. Most of all- be considerate, don't f**k it up for the next guy, and have fun."
  24. Well put and great point. For the most part TH Industries is making all the bearing parts, so I imagine if the crown race gets ruined most anybody should be able to find a replacement.
