The discolouration may be stress marks due to over-tightening! Pics pics pics. And no, you won't notice a difference if you go for some cheaper clamps. Get some standard Magura ones, best ones I've ever used!

Is it your lever, possibly? It may be the master that's not playing along properly. Whatever the problem is, take all the hose off(main and crossover) the brake and blow loads of water through it with a syringe, as there may be a load of gunk in there somewhere. That should clear any blockages, if there are any, and will sort your problem.

I've just taped mine. It always comes out, and the peak/visor always flaps about. So taping it stops both of these said problems.
