  1. I don't think you understand the definition of the word hypocrite. You weren't making a point about anything, you were having a sly jab and I pointed out (albeit humourously) that kind of talk, even if disguised as a joke, is just plain narrow-minded. Accept that.
  2. This guy's got it right. Just ride, man. Stop worrying about what everyone else is doing and ride. I notice alot of people not giving enough respect to other riders because of their choice of discipline or bike or whatever. It's almost as if the sadder ones among us feel threatened or inadequate by not being able to directly compare themselves with others. QUOTE (joe b @ Oct 2 2008, 03:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Oh my god, that was f**king huuuuuge riding. And, dont get me wrong, it made my jaw drop but that was more like watching a BMX video, unfortunately, not the next level of street trials. Sorry... But serious props for riding with such individuality, anyways . Cheers, Joe. I also agree with this guy too. This isn't trials 'as we know it'. I only wish I could ride like Danny not only because he's knocking out some sweet moves but because he's got heaps of style in there too. There's tonnes of riders out there riding like this and better though, admittedly most of them, but not all, choose smaller wheels, it's just that most trials riders on here have very little exposure to that scene and therefore view Danny as some sort of demi-god. Respect due though.
  3. I think you'll struggle to point out any hypocricy arising from my previous posts. Hence you've become a fool to yourself. I've tarred a certain type of person nationwide? By this do you mean people who smash bottles over the heads of others? Oh woe is me, for I have misrepresented the thuggish contingent of our country. I think Ben would prefer if you let him do his own talking, don't you? You made a poor attempt at humour which only served to enforce negative and inacurate stereotypes. I replied in wit and you got a bit upset. Just to reinforce or add to my original point. Alcohol is never an excuse for anything, people should be resposible for they way in which they take alcohol and responsible for their own actions, whether under the influence of alcohol or otherwise. I'd really struggle to understand why anybody would try and disagree.
  4. That's what I was getting at, yeah. Maybe not the best comparison but for example, cars don't cause accidents, it's the situations in which they are put which results in an accident. The mere existence of the car or being in it are not enough to create an accident.
  5. The gap up to the green mesh fence at 5:52 looks massive
  6. I actually did laugh out loud there. I'm not entirely comfortable with these kind of events. I can't help but feel that it's just a small blip of intense patronising by a bunch of worthless 'celebs', before they go back to their unjustly 'high-class' lifestyles able to feel less guilty about being, although significantly richer, lesser beings than 'the brave ones'. I in no way mean to detract from the remarkable lives of those being aplauded, just the manner in which it is done.
  7. Alcohol is infact not part of the cause as you are suggesting. I would consider it to be a catalyst. Remove the catalyst and another can surely be found, remove the subject/cause and the problem is eliminated. That being my point. I believe there's alot of truth in the saying: "A drunken mind speaks sober thoughts". When under the influence of alcohol people become less inhibited and are therefore more likely to act on thoughts that already fill their minds be it through speaking aloud or with actions. I get the impression that you often lose touch with what you actually believe and let your ability for reasoned debate defeat you, by arguing the case for any side regardless, just to assert some small victory on your behalf. I think you failed to see the point of my original post, which is that morons just accept that it must be alcohol that causes all these problems not the small number of idiots themselves that behave badly. You dig?
  8. I don't think you're looking at it carefully enough. Without arseholes this would never happen. Without alcohol arseholes would, I'm sure, soon enough find something else destructive to do. It's not a simple 50/50 split of blame. If faced with the choice of removing alcohol from society or removing arseholes, I know which I'd choose. Again I see you're pretending to be diplomatic to a fault because you like to cause a stir, well done you.
  9. I am amazed that people are so easily excited by what I see to be just a bunch of sketches with no details or further info. I'm expecting some nice new stuff from Koxx and hopefully sooner rather than later since I'm holding out on buying a new bike until they've released their new range. I'm not ready to start creaming in my undies over some drawings though.
  10. I feel the need to say it before someone else says otherwise. Alcohol does not cause this, being an arsehole causes this. If alcohol was the problem then everyone who got drunk would cause trouble, as it happens it's just arseholes. There's not so much of a drink problem in the UK as there is an arsehole problem.
  11. I think most people's hands will take a similar shape to that naturally anyway. Your hand naturally makes a pincer shape between your index finger and thumb and given that these two are predominantly used to perform most manual tasks you'll notice this position with most peoples hands, rider or othwise. It's hardly evidence of deformation due to excessive riding and certainly not worth bothering other people with.
  12. Does anyone else think Gilles looks like he's lost alot of weight? I know it's common amongst climbers and boulderers to lose weight to help with your climbing, so much so that there's a lower BMI limit for female climbers in competitions. I think similar reasoning could be applied with trials.
  13. Obviously drug usage has become an intrinsic part of your personality and any mention by others regarding the negative aspects of them results in you perceiving it as a personal attack of some sort. I'm not telling everyone that "Drugs are bad, mmmmkay?..." but merely trying to make some people aware (maybe not yourself, since I can see you are slightly more enlightened than some on here) that it's not all black and white. There's alot of people smashing their hands into keyboards on this forum without first considering that there is more outside of their knowledge than in it. Dan
  14. The social and societal problems caused by alot of drugs and their overuse would still exist regardless of whether they were legal or not, so it's not that simple an issue. And stop pretending to be clever by picking on one word in what I have written and getting overly litteral about it's usage. It sounds like you are assuming that I don't use drugs and never have. Don't be so presumptuous Are you suggesting I am at an age where I am impressionably vulnerable? Again, don't be so presumptuous. Contrary to what you may believe not all weed is grown in your neighbours shed or wherever. It takes certain people to get some of it into this country from wherever it is produced and then distribute it. In much the same way as with some other drugs. Opiates and Cocaine involve the addition of no other chemicals. MDMA is 'created' chemically. Methamphetamine can be made at home, relatively cheaply too.
  15. Don't be so naive. Do you seriously think the two are mutually exclusive?
  16. The funding of drug trafficking and organised crime is hardly a small problem. Dan.
  17. Drill holes in (or even completely remove) the inner wall of your rims, if they are double walled. Remove the conical springs on your quick release skewers. Remove your stem cap and bolt once the stem is tight? Remove the red plastic TPAs from your Magura levers. On a budget? Chop the lower jockey wheel off your derailleur if you're running single speed. Also remove the hanger spring. Dan
  18. You want them, you get them. Whether they're "good" or not is purely subjective and peoples opinions on something as daft as grips can vary widely in my experience. Yes.Would it flake off and look gash? Yes.
  19. just not the chain, sprockets, tyres and rims (depending on whether you use rim or disc brakes). Dan
  20. Modulation - the act of modifying or adjusting according to due measure and proportion. i.e. Effort in at the brake lever gives a noticable progressive response in braking, not just an on/off effect. Dan.
  21. By far the most noticable place to save weight in regards to the handling of a bike is on the wheels. A 100g weight saving on your rear rim is going to do so much more for you than making your bike look like it's been attacked by the Arnie of all wood-worms. Dan.
  22. People say this all to often as though it justifies it. I've never been into smoking weed and I've certainly never been out "vandalizing peoples properties and stealing shit" as a result of me NOT smoking the stuff. Don't pretend that the only alternative pastimes are negative ones. There are far better things to be doing with yourself and your money. I am by no means telling you what you should be doing with your life just saying you should stop being/pretending to be so naive. If you want to look at it that way, although I've not done my research, I'd still be willing to bet that levels of criminality (including "vandalizing peoples properties and stealing shit") are higher amongst drugs users than non drug users. Dan.
