  1. Hi! The Honigs are now out of stock. If you're looking for cheap pads for smooth rims, then I may have an alternative. I have some other surplus pads available, the "Konig" pads (red) which I was testing and let some go out as paid for prototypes. We were focussing on how well they lasted on grinds, and whilst we were looking in that direction it appears now that we may have overlooked their strengths on smooth rims. This could make them an amazing choice for a front rim (often smooth) and for those of you who haven't ground your rear rim. If testing indicates that they perform to at least an equal level as other popular pads for smooth rims, then and only then, will I make some available. Cheers, Steve
  2. Just about to download :P I'm on the same host, (Digital Crocus), and have a 40GB bandwidth limit. I'm a bit of a bad boy at the moment because a slight overstep of this limit has now spiralled to 249% :"> They are quite flexible about it because they haven't suspended my account yet, and haven't replied to my emails. It doesn't seem possible to host a vid on there without it getting seriously expensive! Steve
  3. Heatsink

    Wtf?!

Don't be afraid to give them a ring -They're helpful chaps used to young cyclists ringing up with questions. The thing with running a shop is that you'll sit down at the keyboard to answer emails, but as soon as the phone rings or someone comes in the shop, then they've jumped the queue! Viva the old technology! Once you've picked that phone up for the first time who knows where it could lead! Steve
  4. Heatsink

    Wtf?!

It's not going to cost much more to ring them from Ireland. That's the best way to contact them since their email is rather overburdened! Steve
  5. It all sounds so rubbish when you know how! I was reading about Blaine on the first link I posted. He studied acting and this is what helps him present it so well. Also it's worth scrolling down and reading what sounds like an amateur magician giving his talk through on the tricks being performed in a Blaine TV show. http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node=David%20Blaine For more interesting proof that we shouldn't kid ourselves about believing in the supernatural, check out James Randi's site. He has a $1 million challenge going where he will give up the money if someone can really prove they have special powers. Of course only the deluded actually believe they are supernatural (Uri Gellar), and unsurprisingly his money is still safe! http://www.randi.org/ Also, on the supernatural mediums and stuff, plus mind reading, Derren Brown takes great joy in replicating what they do, whilst admitting it's trickery and nothing supernatural  Steve
  6. To take one example, the levitation is done via an established illusion. You can see from the website the variety of simple techiques (which they try and sell information/magic vids to show you how) which any amateur can succeed with: http://www.levitation.org/david-blaine-levitation.htm Here's another link I've found which gives one levitation technique away which David Blaine has used on his shows!. This shows how view angle can trick the eye, in this case make leviation appear a reality. Seems crap when you know how, so that's where the Magician's theatre skills big up the illusion: http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1054835 With a bit of research then the mysteries are debunked, but then on the other hand where's the fun in that! Maybe it's better to rest in a state of awe and enjoy the entertainment. It's like Penn and Teller where they often give away the secrets behind their illusions. Because we get the result via what the camera sees, you immediately see how they harness the opportunities to fool that are presented by us not being there and able to see it from all angles with our own eyes. Steve
  7. Of course none of it is real - just clever illusions. Any good illusionist builds the theatre and showmanship so that the illusion seems more real, and Mr Blaine is good at this! Anyone remember that Uri Geller chap. He made a fortune out of really simple things like pretending to bend spoons when they were already bent. Just clever hand work to hide the fact. It shows how much money there is in us being pretty gulliable and wanting to believe in supernatural powers! Also the "I can start your old watches thing" where TV viewers were encouraged to hold up stopped watches and meditate with him. Statistically a few watches out of the few million viewers trying it, would stir into life, maybe from the agitation, and that was enough for people who wanted to believe. Steve
  8. Hi Haz! Look forward to your help  Steve
  9. Hi, Would anyone be able to create a vector image version (*.ai, *.eps) of the heatsinkpads logo I use on the top left of my website? A pair of blue pads to the person who can! It would be much appreciated since I can then crack on with getting some proper stickers sorted out  The "Bjork" font can be downloaded from dafont.com: http://www.dafont.com/en/font.php?file=bjork I'm after an exact copy of the logo as it appears on the top left of my website banner. It's for a one colour sticker. No time or Photoshop software/skills to do it myself. Thanks in advance! Steve
  10. Hi Scunnytrials, Here's a stroke of luck for you which I hope will help: I have a pair of some pads here on my desk which are in consideration for the production pads I finally go for. I'd love you to try these out in comparison with the previous pads you've tried and let me know if they give you what you're looking for! Of course you can keep them whatever happens B) This is a real one off offer - I just happened to be surfing and had both the pair of pads available and the unresolved question waiting to be answered! There is only one pair available I'm afraid, and I can't afford to give more freebies away, so please no messages/emails about other freebies! I really hope that the vast majority of riders find great performance and value for money from the Honig pads that are being cleared. Rest assured there will be no doubt over the final released pads peformance and astounding value for money when they are available in a couple of weeks time :P Steve
  11. There was a recent post asking the same thing - Here's some good info for you! http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....ndpost&p=720187 Rohloff's as I discussed in the above link, are £50 which is very expensive! I believe Aire Valley Cycles stock them. On the Fresh products tensioner, more info is on its way because Aaron's working on his website at the moment. I hope he makes it work in Firefox too very soon! I managed to find this image of the Fresh products tensioner though, £28: As you can see it's a springless design around an aluminium arm with the chain running in an acetal roller and the arm position adjusted via a bolt against the rear mech hanger. Steve
  12. Hi Mark, You're right - mistakes have been made in the past (Y) In hindsight the red pads were made available too early, with the limitations of use not fully understood so the wear life on grinds didn't justify the cost of £14. Fault lies squarely with me. I have to rely on others to test pads because of my busy homelife, and should have stuck my neck out to focus on getting the testing team completely fool proof - comprising those who are super critical and will tell me it straight even it it's not good news! I genuinely did think the pads had been rigoursly tested to perfection at the time, but from this learning experience the positive effect is that this fault has been remedied. Since then I've found some guys who can really tell me how it is, warts and all, plus these guys are running regularily harshly ground rims and riding with more regularity than many other riders, whilst also going big! In this way I'm learning the worst case scenarios for wear life and performance and being guided by this. I guess the realisation is the amount of time it takes to build up knowledge of those riders whose judgement is spot on, and it takes an issue such as with the information that slipped through the net with the red pads, to underline those riders who are the dons for testing! For an example of these test riders, take Mr Fatmike, who has tried out pretty much all my pads since day one, and looking back has assessed each one pretty spot on now the dust has cleared. Also, I'm pleased to have Adam Read from Tartybikes also riding the pads hard and giving me his valued assessment. I have many more riders trying the various pads out, and through building relationships with these riders, I am now getting some really useful feedback, and not just the good news we all like to hear. I really hope that by slashing the price of the surplus Honig pads, plus making clear their wear life limitations when run on harsh grinds, the price is immediately fair and gives great value for money. More than one well known manufacturer of brake pads with similar wear deficiencies doesn't make this clear and still charge over the odds prices - although two wrongs don't make a right of course! When the pads in the new compound are available, on the approval of my new crack team, then I'm pleased to announce that prices are only going one way - Down! At that point I will have enough unshakeable faith in the pads that I will happy to make them available at a price, lower than my previous full RRP pads, which will show it once and for all I'm in it for the longterm return rather than the quick buck and that I'm not going to loose sight of the whole reason I started down this path in the first place which was to challenge the hegemony of pad supply where prices were (and still are) rather elevated! Steve
  13. Hi, In my experience, T-shirts selling requires something extra special to make money. I don't think I'll be selling future lines once I've cleared my stock, simply because I've made a loss on mine - and that's with a concrete range of products behind rather than just a pretty design! I haven't really sold and my stock has only been reduced by those discounted/free ones for Team riders and numerous Trials competitions. To get Tees at a decent price without compromising on quality, you need to: 1. Settle on a design with ideally only one colour 2. Shop around alot! I didn't want to compromise on my Heatsink logo, but this meant screenprinting in 4 colours. (black, white, yellow, orange) I went for yellow Tees so that meant only 3 colours needed to be used, but for starters it was £20 to get a screen made for each colour. Plus I choose a really decent Tee to print on. Ontop of that you pay extra on the cost of each Tee for each of these colours to be printed. The result a Tee which costs me £12 to get made. If you look on my site you'll see that I'm selling these at no profit since anymore than this is too expensive. Since I've been through this loop myself, I can see how people like Gate8 make money. 1. Association with top pros 2. Alot more capital to go out and make bulk orders in a variety of designs 3. One colour prints, often not on the best quality Tees - result each Tee costing around £5 to make 4. Funky designs 5. Sell Tees at £20 each!! Another thing to bear in mind - Buying clothes over the net always has the stumbling block of being sure that they'll fit. Amazingly I notice that most "estblished" stores give no indication on what Medium, large etc actually mean (Medium in one size will be Large in another). Even with giving proper measurements as I've done, the doubt often remains in peoples mind, enough for them to hold back on ordering. It's a huge gamble with Tees because to get the prices really decent, you need to make a bulk order, and this will be a couple of hundred pounds worth at least. You've got to be really sure about it! Even if things look pretty promising, take my example as a warning! Steve
  14. You really couldn't ask for better weather for the NBR 2005 comp :) BBC 5 day weather forecast for the event location: Steve
  15. Hi, John "Bongo" Blundell has just uploaded his brand new BMX vid onto the Heatsink server. It's a cracker - I've already had to watch it several times in a row! He's been riding his Heatsink Vees hard as you can see! Link at the top of the following page: - Please don't lazy link! Bongo's Sweet Dreamy BMX Flick 38mb, 3mins 49s Look forward to your comments whether they be good or bad! Steve
  16. Thanks to all that contributed :P Contrary to an earlier post, I have only the one pair of blue pads going up for grabs: We've just pulled "Wad" out of the hat, so congratulations to you :) I'm just about to PM a request for your postal address and the pair of blue pads will be sent asap. Steve
  17. We're aiming for great life on harsh grinds and are finding that the optimum softness for this in our opinion is good news for smooth rims too! Best to ask via PM Julien "TrashZen" for his unbiased opinion about how they perform on a smooth rim. This is good to hear :- I've been hearing alot of positive feedback from all those who have been critical (often rightly so) of previous pads. Please bare in mind that these are the best performing pads to come out of independent testing by Adam@TartyBikes so far, but the testing is continuing of more compounds. Think of these pads as an appetiser of things to come! Currently a select number of riders have been riding these blue pads for the past few weeks: Adam@Tartybikes (famous harsh grinds) Trashzen (smooth rim) Fatmike (harsh grind) Tank_rider (grind) Terror-error (grind) ben@hulltrials (grind) dan_t-lite (grind) ^ From my experiences, I'm confident that these guys are being completely honest with their feedback on the pads :) There are also about 5 other riders with these pads who I've forgotten! I'm listening to what these guys say about their longterm performance and if they are the best out of all those tested when we've been as thorough as possible, then they will be selected as the production pad. I have some surplus blue pads available - if you're interested in getting hold of some, PM me for further details. Rob I've PMed you about sending a pair for inclusion in your backings. It would be cool to see them in a uber-pimped up set-up like that! Back to the measurements post, it seems that the T-rex has the narrowest of the 4 bolt set-ups and nothing has been measured narrower than 94mm for an Alu frame of this kind :P Thanks for all your help - I will hold a mini raffle tonight for the free pair of blue pads! - I'll announce the winner at 10pm tonight There are also 2 pairs going in the raffle for the NBR comp on Sunday the 21st, with accompanying T-shirts. NBR Prizes All the NBR comp info here Steve
  18. Here are the prizes I'm donating, two Pad and Tee sets: They should be with you tomorrow Andy :- It looks like it's going to be a top notch event! Good luck to everyone and have a great time :- Steve
  19. Thanks for all the frame measurements so far  I'm wondering what the measurements between the rear 4 bolt mounts are on some of the most recent 26" frames: Echo Team 05 Echo HiFi 05 Echo Control 05 GU Typhoon Kot Koxx XTP Toxsin Zoo Pitbull Vario Styx I'll be putting all contributors in a hat for a pair of free pads: Thanks in advance, Steve
  20. Hi there, I need to build up a list of measurements covering the range of Trials frames and forks out there. This will be useful for a few things I'm working on - so that they fit the widest variety of frames! There's nothing more annoying that buying something and finding it doesn't fit. It's the distance between the brake mount from one side of the frame/fork to the other that I'm interested in. 1. For 4 bolt frames, for the rear, both top and bottom mounts - centre to centre 2. For Vee mount frames, for the rear - centre to centre 3. The same as above for whatever forks you're using! To measure, please throw a ruler across the centre of the bolt heads from one side to the other. If you see your frame already mentioned, please add your measurements anyway because I'm sure these vary by a few mm each way! When I've got a really thorough list which includes the brand new frames & forks, then I'll hold a raffle of all those that have contributed. The prize will be some free pads - Ones not yet released. I'll have two pairs available :D Cheers in advance! Steve

  22. For free DWG viewing I have a recommendation: Voloview You should be able to find it somewhere on the net. The most common things I find I need to do for DWGs I receive is: 1. Convert multicolour drawings (different colours for each layer) into black and white for clarity 2. Centre the drawing on the page for printing 3. Turn off surplus layers for clarity This beastie does these, and you can quickly find the commands on the simple menus. Plus it brings in the common 2D file formats, *.DXF, *.DWG files plus others 100% reliably which Solidworks my 3D CAD system doesn't do all the time. Steve
  23. The ones you linked to you'll get with the brake . They are the "Evo" ones for mounting onto frames which have just a single boss on each side (standard Vee mounts that most bikes come with), and I believe that they also work for the 4 bolt frames (magura only) like yours. There are also "4 Bolt mounts" which are simpler looking and only work with 4 bolt frames: These typcially cost around £15 for, say the rear brake only. See the following link for examples: http://tartybikes.co.uk/products.php?product=brake_spares I'd order the HS33 and see where you go from there. Definately don't bother with the HS11 because it'll be next to worthless if you want to off load it later on. Go straight for the HS33 because it'll last your whole trials career (Y) Steve
  24. I think it's just a screw driver to pop the end ring thing off (very little force needed) and slide the freewheel off (the lump the cassette sits on) you'll be amazed at how simple the internals are. Just some lumps on steel sat on springs. Couldn't be easier. The hardest thing is finding the old pawls and springs that have fired off into the long grass somewhere when you opened it up! Disassemble carefully with no sudden movement of the wheel to avoid this. I think that the springs in my Hope (2nd hand) are cut down ones from a biro! Search for "Hope hub spares" on wiggle for the complete list of spares Exploded view of the hub internals (pawls are #7) http://www.hopetech.com/technical/technical_index.htm Hub maintainance PDF: http://www.hopetech.com/technical/technical_index.htm Steve
  25. Some great riding there (Y) Sorry for being an arse but I spotted an embarassing spelling mistake on the site. "Partition" - for the meaning you want the word is actually "Petition". Steve
