  1. Mmmm, off topic again, but I thought Cycle Trials was 1st developed in Spain, by Moto (motorcycle trials) riders looking for a way to keep fit and also as an introduction for younger riders into the sport? It's obviously picked up some outside influences along the way, BMX etc. but isn't that street Trials (no rules), not comp Trials (rules and regulations)? Hey, wtf do I know? Anyway, lachojski don't worry, the forum gets distracted sometimes. All the fun of the fair. Keep on riding and posting, and let's see your cycle man! middleageman.
  2. Brakes? Who needs them Certainly not me, after showing 'the wife' that video, I think the ball and chain will take care of that! She reckons I've already collected one too many head injury cards as it is. Cheers for the clip man. Astounding. middleageman.
  3. Hey lachojski! Cheers for your reply man. I didn't realise Matt had another Zoot for sale until I'd bought mine. Then I was thinking "was the other one better?" What brakes did you go for? I haven't seen pics of yours, because the sale was closed on this forum. Post some up man! Did you get the single speed kit? I wanted gears for now to get me around. As stated before, sound fella to deal with. You've already made more progress than me. At least you can stop yourself! middleageman.
  4. Erm... yeah, my mistake. I'd only had a random look at Tarty's and saw Maggy £60 ish, Avid BB7 £40 +. I forgot about a lever and cable etc. Am I near in saying; (new prices) -Front/rear Magura's £120 ish (more if boosters are needed?) -Rear Magura £60 ish (+ booster?) / front Avid BB7 £50 ish, + lever (SD 7?) £10, + cable (?) = £130 + ? -Front/rear V-brakes (Avid SD7 calipers, levers, adaptors, cable) = £120 ish? Am I missing anything from these three choices? I could go mad and get Hope/Avid ultimate but then the brakes would be worth more than the bike! (Onza Zoot) I think £150 is a more realistic figure, what would you good people do in my situation? I can upgrade other parts as I progress, so I would like to buy good quality brakes as a base. I've tried searching, but it'll take forever so thought I'd just ask. Your opinions and reasons why, will be appreciated! middleageman.
  5. Matt had 2 Zoots for sale, I bought the other one! Also my 1st Trials bike, I just need some brakes. Was yours a complete bike? Have you ridden Trials before? He was sound with me as well. Post up a bike piccy (in your topic), let's have a look! Good luck on the forum, as sstein said, use capital's where needed, watch your spelling, ask well worded questions and give friendly replies and you may get validated! Also, never ask about getting validated. Read the guidelines and wiki on the top tool bar, also the sticky, 'Mike's guide to validation' Most forum members will gladly answer any questions you may have. Have fun learning! middleageman.
  6. Cheers Ogre! I've just bought a 2nd hand Onza Zoot without brakes, so can run a front disk. I've got a £100 -ish to splash, but keeping an open mind. The front disk, rear Magura does seem a popular choice, can anyone convince me why? Or has anyone a better option? All advice welcome please. Matt, sorry if I'm treading all over your topic, but rather than start a new brakes one ........ middleageman
  7. Correct. Nice detective work! Sorry didn't see your posts asking me till now. Matt Vandart, good guy, helpful and a pleasure to deal with (considering he's from the SOUTH of Wales! ) Will post pics when 'I've made it mine' so to speak. Just got to decide on some brakes now! Thanks for all your help and advice. middleageman.
  8. I bought it from a forum member, the frame is dent/crack free and it seems mechanically sound apart from having no brakes. Any opinion or advice would be very welcome! I'll post a few pics soon. Thanks for your interest. Anyway, I'm hijacking my own topic here! How was London???
  9. I bought a bike off a hobo in London for 69p, a Koxx Red Sky or summat??? Only kidding. I took advice and bought 2nd hand. A lil' ol' Zoot 24". Pretty standard, but I'll see where it takes me! Thanks for asking. Anyone else made it back from London? We'd Love to hear of your adventures!
  10. Thanks, good stuff guys! I'm sure the forum could do with a boost of enthusiasm and inspiration! Keep 'em rollin' in!!!
  11. Hello, as the forum is like a ghost town today, I'm assuming every man and his bike is in 'the big smoke'. I didn't go myself, as I spent the money on my 1st Trials bike instead. But I'm sure, like myself, the forum members who couldn't attend would like to hear about the Trials event of the century! Was it as good as you expected? Did your Trials heroes live up to your expectations? Did you ride or just enjoy the spectacle? Did you meet many new 'faces behind the names' off TF? Who did you rate as a rider? Did anyone steal the show for you? Did you try out any cool bikes or equipment? Maybe leading to a change of heart, bike wise or other? Where were the best places to ride? Any equipment failures or injuries? Who was the most pissed, abusive and/or arrested?!!! You get my drift.... I would Love to hear your anecdotes and stories! middleageman.
  12. Interesting topic, Matt. I've just bought my first Trials bike, without brakes, and my only way of stopping so far is when one of my dogs falls under the front wheel. I'm sure a brake might be quieter. Like yourself, I'd like to hear the reasons behind peoples brake choices. I think i'm starting to learn the physics of the differerent models and types, but wonder about reliability also? The amount of help asked for on TF for brake problems is staggering.(especially Maguras?) Is this down to 2nd hand brake purchases, or is it due to poor maintenance/the Trials abuse they receive in general? I suppose different choices/combinations may be influenced by riding style/technique? (and obviously cashflow!) Am I getting warm? Therefore, any members advice on brake choice would be gratefully pondered! Or, as we would say in Wales, " Which brakes are the best?". Or as my dogs might say, " Buy some f****** brakes!!!" middleageman.
  13. Thanks folks for all your advice, I've bought a second hand Trials machine from a forum member which is in the post and due soon. I'll post some pics when it arrives. Cheers, middleageman.
  14. How do you know I'm not watching from the woods, maricon? I'd sell you mine, if I had any.
  15. This is a bit of a weird Topic, but hey...... Being new, I've just noticed the 'Board Statistics'. - 1,405,599 posts (as stands - obviously +1 of mine and 2 if you answer. ) - 12,940 members (Wow!) - 1,222 most ever users online on 20th of 2008 at 12.58 am. What was occuring at that particular moment I wonder??? Can anyone enlighten me please? Just a random thought.
  16. I can see the headline now: " New 720' Trials/BMX stunt - without bikes!...... Simon Cowell says YES!!!"
  17. I've personally no advice, except loving the colour scheme but the forks look a bit brittle! sorry, couldn't resist!
  18. I'm sat on my seat, whilst pondering which Trials bike to buy.
  19. erm.... yeah, I may have made a misleading statement earlier in this topic about not caring about a style of bike/geo etc. for Trials (I'm not as naive as I sound. :$ ) I do realise that to learn Trials, I really need a Trials specific bike. I was also thinking of a 2nd bike to do more streety/dirt/trails riding around my local promenade, dunes, woods and quarry's. I suppose this has led me to either a choice of mod or stock and a dirt (play) bike, or, a decent 24" to sort of cover both. Would an Inspired/Leeson/Reset satisfy both needs or am I barking up the wrong tree? I realise that there is more to geo and the style of Trials I'd want to practise, but as i've not had a go yet i'm not being to serious about it and keeping an open mind. Any thoughts please? Lol, Ych y Fi ? You may as well type in Klingon as I was born in Somerset. But my Welsh wife informs me that you probably don't like the Rockhound!
  20. Heh heh, I didn't know you were at my wedding, was it you who called the Police? Unfortunately, my Wife's the 'Matron of Honour' and my Son's playing a piano piece, so apparently I have to be there. Stanners - wow, I've never even heard of this frame, It's nice to know I've got other options! Any opinions people?
  21. Thanks Ben and Matt and all, I guess I've had a blinkered veiwpoint to buying new so far. I've checked out your ebay links and also just ventured into the 'For Sale' section of TF and wow, what an eye opener. For the stupid money I was maybe considering, that would buy me a whole lot of 2nd hand niceness. Or two! As i'm not in any rush and still gathering the pennies, I'll keep one eye on the 2nd hand market. MTM - London's 50/50 at the moment as my sister-in-law is selfishly getting married the week after and I've a church rehearsal to go to on the Saturday! Maybe next time, at least I should have a bike by then! Cheers, middleageman.
  22. Wow! cheers Ben 'The Buddha' Leacock and psycholist. Your helpful advice is most appreciated. Thank You. I would reply further, but 'The Wife' is calling! (matthew62, I will ADSR, via a LP filter, all over your LFO soon as! )
  23. Christ on a bike! Where do I start? Thanks everyone, I can't respond to all, but I will try my best (rolls up sleeves!) I'm understanding the Deng bashy/street/strength angle now over the comp frames. An Echo Control seems a popular choice and I think I've read before that Zoo!'s are strong. But why the 'older' new frames rather than the '09 models? (if this makes sense?) I'm not really understanding the Onza, Ozonys, Rockman, MBK best of both worlds frames? Does it relate to the fact that particular models from each brand are aimed at different styles? If so, which would suit my needs? (or is Deng like a Bond villain, intent of ruling the street Trials world!) Regarding 24", of course the Inspired is the mutt's nuts, but any opinions of the steel framed Reset? As for the equipment recommendations, thanks, but did I mention I was new to Trials? If I research all them I'll be hitting 50 before getting a bike! If buying new, I was sort of going to take Al Fel's approach and pick a frame off Tarty and either wham a Try-All set on it or ask their advice. What do you think about this approach please? I also haven't ruled out the 2nd hand market. I'm not in any rush. I realise i'm still quite naive and have tried searching posts but thought, as this was a forum, I'd just ask. I will consider your helpful replies (strikes 'deep thought' pose ) and welcome any more opinions please. Thanks. middleageman. ps. Matthew62. I will PM you about oscillators, wires and knobs when time allows.
