Hello. The 1st bike you mentioned, the DMR, is designed as a dirt/jump bike. The frame is designed for strength, made of steel and heavy and the componentry also. For Trials riding you will require something lighter. The 2nd bike is purely designed for Trials riding, the Meta VTT is a good quality 26" wheeled stock from a Canadian Trials manufacturer (www.meta-bikes.com). They retail in the UK for around £800, what price are they in your country? (Canada or U.S.A.?). On paper, it looks a good purchase, but do some research and ask the buyer plenty of questions regarding the condition of the bike and usage. Good luck. Edit: erm.. I meant seller rather than buyer. Hello. I decided to buy some new pedals for my Zoot and chose the Revell Teams (from Tarty). I received them this morning and haven't fitted them yet, but I have a small question. Upon removing them from the box, I held the axle and gave a flick, expecting them to spin round like Pete Burns on the waltzers. They both nudge quarter of a turn. It's not that they are stiff, both are the same, they feel lubed and fluid, just not 'spinny'? As I'm recently returning to this cycle parts purchasing lark, I wondered if this was normal for platform pedals? Please excuse my idiocy, but I was too late to phone Tarty Bikes and would like to fit the pedals tomorrow, so any advice would be most welcome. MAM.

Hey, I'm newbie, though old and clumsy I've just ordered a set of 661 veggie wraps for shins and knee - rutlandcycling.com £40.46 for both. Cheaper than the 4 months I had off work due to a broken ankle and leg, metal plate and 8 screws ( not Trials related). I'm just hoping the veggies are bit lighter and more comfortable than the protection my Wife chose for me.!!!.................

Thanks man. I've read a few 'First post introductions' recently who are treated like fools. A person shows an interest in Trials, develops some passion and hunger, posts an introduction, then gets snapped at by a few yapping terriers that guard the gate of TF. Could New Members not be welcomed down the path and through the door with a handshake and a smile? I'm just sensing a Trials tidal wave after Danny Mac's internet explosion. A lot of people will be buzzin' this forum. If this sport/forum is to develop and progress, it surely needs to widen it's attitude and horizons. Maybe now, the more experienced, knowledgeable and more sociable TF members could help out more and take this to a new level? Just a thought. middleageman.

Is it this one? If so, the T-Mag (2008), although out of production for 2009, is still for sale, new, online for £650 - £750. It was the top line Onza mod last year and for £250, if your sure it's 'sound' and been treated well, for a first bike or even an upgrade, I'd bite his hand off! Great value.

I myself, only joined in December and have recently bought my first Trials bike and I'm just learning the basics, so I consider myself a 'Newbie'. I've posted a few times on the forum already and learnt a fair bit about 'Trials-Forum etiquette', so I thought maybe I could help you on your voyage of discovery! Hey, when I first discovered Trials-Forum through sheer chance on a google search, I couldn't believe my luck! I was thirsty for Trials knowledge and here was a whole underground source dedicated to the sport. I rolled up my sleeves and devoured thread after thread, post upon post. I, maybe like yourself, was hungry for answers to feed my inexpirience. So I posted my introduction in 'New Members Chat'. I didn't notice the introduction 'Sticky' at the top of the page either. Nor the 'search' feature in the links at the top (an amazing resource of past threads/topics and posts on practically every Trials question ever asked). Or the 'Wiki' feature, which explains the different types of bikes, riding styles and techniques, cycle manufacturers and retailers, maintenance tips and more. Also, don't worry if you've received some unhelpful, baffling or curt replies from certain parties, or think you may have mistakenly logged into the 'Anal Retentive Society for the correction of English grammatical errors (A.R.S.E.)' website. If you read the guidelines in the information bar (top of the page), or the sticky at the top of New Members Chat ' Mike's Guide to Validation..' all should become clear. It helps if you can grow a thicker skin than a rhinoceros, at a fancy dress party, dressed as an elephant. Above all, don't forget, that this is a Trials Forum, a place for discussion. A nice looking pedal indeed! My interest in this post is purely due to the fact that I'm looking to maybe upgrade my standard Onza Zoot pedals, as they are a bit worn and slippy and have kindly removed part of my left shin. Of course, I neglected to mention any Trials specific manufacturers in my previous post, Onza, Trialtech etc and we should support these companies. As a beginner myself, with limited funds, I'm not to concerned with weight at the moment, but grip, strength and longevity. Any recommendations please?

Hey G, what i've learnt so far concerning pedal choice is basically what's been said above. In that a caged pedal is cheaper (£20), lighter, slightly grippier than a lower priced platform pedal but not as hardy. Imagine if your slamming them on concrete and rocks frequently, the 'teeth' will blunt or bend. Whereas a platform pedal(£20 +) is stronger in its basic design, which of course carries a slight weight penalty, but its grip is solely down to the set of pins that scew into the pedal surface to secure your feet. These pedals are seen to be a bit more hard wearing due to the fact that the pins are replaceable, as they can be knocked out with usage. A good choice of platform pedal maybe a DMR V8 (£20 - £25) rising up to a 24bicycles butterfly 2 (£85 ish). Of course, I'm no expert, but what I can tell you is the fact that either of these choices will gladly remove the front of your shin with ease! It may not be a cool look, but shin guards are a wise choice for a beginner. Also, remember that your choice of footwear plays a major role in sticking to the pedals. You can buy a choice of specialist Trials/MTB/BMX related shoes with grippier soles (yes, more expense!). Or do as I do and ride barefooted

Personally speaking, I can see this Trials lark emptying my wallet on a monthly basis! ...hmmm... maybe I should buy some new bars and stem? Or maybe some grippier pedals? Perhaps my rear hub will let me down? Should I have chosen a rear maggie/front disc instead of V-brakes? I could go on.............and on..............and on..................... 'matt-urban'...nice upgrades! I can see you've thrown some cash at your wheels, what rims are they? Also, how are the DMR wingbars working out? I'm also thinking of getting some V8 pedals, any good?
