  3. I would, but even the bouncers on our local Aldi refuse my family!
  4. Yeah, I know whay your saying Staphan, but, when my wife, my son and my two dogs are sniffing around for their tea, I don't think pointing at my newly purchased Avid SD7/BB7's will cut the cake.
  5. I will when money allows. In the meantime, I've found 'Mother Nature' provides her own stopping devices; walls, dogs, small children, gravity and the ground.
  6. Oh yes, I see. I wasn't quite sure of my use of the apostrophe in this sentence, as I typed it in rather a hurry. I am absolutely overjoyed you took the time out to correct my grammatical error. As Philip Larkin said, when he visited my hometown of 'Sunny Prestatyn', " gld ur wtchn mi back bro' ". dc13 - I'm chuffed with my Zoot but I've still got no brakes on it yet. It makes it a bit harder to learn the basics!
  7. I know I shouldn't.......(furiously bites lip)........but........ (stifles snigger).............. The long gone poets and wordsmith's of this great land will arise from their graves and ....... Sorry smithy, this banter isn't aimed at you, I get distracted sometimes. Welcome to the forum! dc13 - how's it goin mate? Have you made any progress building your bike?

  9. Mmmm, interesting response.....Yes, you're right! I will put the cork back in my wine, I will put the dvd back in it's case, I shall pack my bags and wave goodbye to my "lame" family. I need to get the bit between my teeth and grab the bull by it's horns! I need to go out in this big, wide world and make my mark. I want to experience, influence and educate, not just my friends or neighbours, but the world! I need to look back in 20 years, with my head held high and proudly exclaim " I did that!". But what shall it be? Where will my quest, my fate, lead me? What words of wisdom will guide me in my path of righteousness? ..........Wait!..... .....the mist of the mind is clearing.........my chakra's are aligning........the force of my future self is nearly in focus....... I KNOW!!!!................. ..I should participate in " Thecircus' Challenge Thread of Eternal Glory And Account Suicide " !!! and I shall exclaim, with a proud heart, "OH, WHAT A NIGHT!" ps. I'm liking your thread actually. I'm maybe thinking of stepping up to the challenge one day. But after this post my challenge will probably be to have a picture of myself riding my Trials bike on the top of Mount Snowden, whilst balancing Martyn Ashton and Danny Macaskill on each shoulder......... all wearing lingerie! (or was that my dream last night?) pps. I know it's before 1.59 am!
  10. Nice one, I've never seen a Jack Meek vid before, I enjoyed that. ( and I thought my decking and one pallet was a challenge )
  11. erm, yeah. He was only 'made' today so he probably doesn't know/hasn't read this yet.
  12. Hello, as you may have guessed, one of the moderators has made you a full member. Nice to have more, ahem, 'mature' members along for the ride! I only joined Trials Forum myself in December, got the bug and have just bought my first bike off here. Feel free to check out my profile (just click on a member's name - view profile), there's a few of us 'oldies' kicking around but the forum is mainly dominated by the younger, yet extremely knowledgable guys. Don't let a handful of mouthy teens put you off though as most of the members really know what they're talking about. Don't hesitate to PM me if you've any (newbie) questions and of course keep posting, it really is the best way to introduce yourself and get to know the members. Enjoy!
  13. Like this?... or maybe like this? ... (Marty Feldman - comedy genius!)
  14. I've just woken up to find the pretty, blonde escort girl I hired for the evening has gone. Taking my stash, my phone, my wallet. I only discovered this because the police were knocking at my door to tell me someones stolen my car. Further still, the 2 bit ho left my front door open and my 2 dogs have gone missing. My wife is due home any minute. Would you believe it? No, neither would I. In reality, I've shared a pizza with my wife and son, watched a cracking Coen Brothers film and enjoyed a rather splendid Beaujolais!
  15. Really? If I may be so bold as to ask, what is your opinion of his theory?
  16. This may help explain how BB (bottom bracket) height is measured: This Meta 20" mod has a +55mm BB height. As for the benefits and disadvantages of a low/high rise BB on a mod.... I'm sure someone else maybe able to help!
  17. Oops,... (mental note to myself.... ' don't post on the Forum when pissed, I'm not big or clever! ) To continue the thread, the oldest thing on my bike... must be the air in the tyres.
  18. I'm sorry, but I will have to disagree, (slightly ). To quote ;"It's not really natural ability though, is it?" Of course, all the requirements for physical excellence require the statements you've made: "Road cycling is basically 100% down to training, hard work and singlemindedness". But surely physical attributes play a major part in an athletes chosen discipline? Speaking for myself, being of a stockier build, I was hopeless at hillclimbing, but alright at sprints. To (very much) generalize, in road cycling, the Columbians and Spaniards are good hillclimbers (small build), the Dutch/Belgian riders are good at sprints (stong and stocky). In my experience, track riders and time trialers are usually fit and lean. I could carry on..... each to his own.... as they say. I wonder if this relates to Trials? middleageman. ps. I also thought this article was rather interesting... "But what makes these cyclists stand out from the man in the street - is it their years of dedicated training? Or are famous riders, like Miguel Indurain, Lance Armstrong, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Jacques Anquetil, born with the genes that will give them the extraordinary physique required to be a top level cyclist? Jonathan Folland, lecturer in exercise physiology at the school of sport and exercise sciences at Loughborough University, believes cycling greats do have to thank their parents for a good set of genes - but cannot rely on nature's largesse alone. Fantastic lung capacity "These cyclists are phenomenal endurance athletes with remarkable physical abilities," he said. "I believe the physiology is half-innate and half-created." These cyclists have the ability to turn oxygen into peak energy. Miguel Indurain was phenomenal at this Jonathan Folland One of the major attributes needed for a successful Tour de France cyclist is a fantastic lung capacity. Spaniard Miguel Indurain, who took five successive titles, had lungs so big they displaced his stomach, leading to his trademark paunch. Indurain's lung capacity was eight litres, compared to an average of six litres. Doctors also assess lung performance using a measure called Vo2 max - the highest volume of oxygen a person can consume during exercise. In this too Indurain was exceptional - his Vo2 max levels were 88 ml/kg/min - almost double that of an untrained man or woman. Three time winner Greg Le Mond was thought to have had a Vo2 max of 92.5 at the height of his career - one of the highest ever recorded. And Lance Armstrong, the American who won the race seven times, had a Vo2 max of 83 ml/kg/min. Dr Folland explained: "A Vo2 max of anything over 70 is considered elite. "These cyclists have the ability to turn oxygen into peak energy. Miguel Indurain was phenomenal at this." Dr Keith Prowse, chairman of the British Lung Foundation agreed that these cyclists had respiratory systems that set them apart from ordinary mortals." I'm f***ed. I smoke.
  19. 'Onzaboymark' "You wouldn't see that because Chris Boardman and British Cycling have worked really hard to make sure it's the most aerodynamic kit possible, and is completely optimum for Chris's riding. He actually wore the disabled athlete's kit at the '08 Olympics because he said he could move his legs up in the stroke fractionally easier. That kit is 100% designed for purpose, and offers a real advantage to them, which is again why their actual skinsuits at the Beijing games were burnt afterwards so no-one would know how they'd made them better." If I may contribute, without wishing to offend? I competed in my local cycling clubs, (Rhyl Road Club) 'open' 10 mile time trial in 1984. For those who know, it was a 'float'. I thought I was doing well. But as I crossed the line, Chris Boardman flew past me, like he'd been shot out of a cannon. I'd achieved a fairly respectable time, Chris started 4 minute's after me, yet still managed to thrash me. I have never, (then or since) witnessed such a level of natural ability such as his. He could have been dressed as Mr Blobby, yet he would have still probably achieved his record time. We were 15! Astounding. middleageman.
  20. Fish-Finger-er - I think your close there. (oh and if you mean by saying a "possible a bank to stop the river flooding over" ie. a levee) I reckon somewhere near Llangollen way as I used to cycle a lot round there and my mate used to live in Cefn Mawr. I recognise the tree on the left in the 2nd pic. Plus the last photo features a pic of my ex girlfriend. Nice place, lankeman, good riding and pics by the way.
  21. Anyway...., have any of you 24" riders got any good tips for lachojski and middleageman's new Zoots? Such as equipment improvements, riding techniques or styles etc.?
  22. If I may be so bold as to invert this particular topic? The 'youngest thing' on my cycle maybe oneself, It's a bit of a bugger to get on the back wheel!
  23. Yeah Dr Doom, I don't think it's anything you've said, it's just sort of provoked a general discussion about brakeless trials. Nice one, surely the point of forums is to share and discuss ideas? Lachojski, cool ride man! Thanks for posting the pic.
  24. Yeah Matt, maybe your right, with my level of Trials riding experience, eg. none (I can't even stand up straight most of the time, maybe I need brakes on my shoes? sorry, my mind wanders sometimes). Yeah maybe, of course, expensive brakes would be required for a high level of skill, but as a beginner, a basic Trials specific model will do? Thanks so far for peoples suggestions. But again, which type and why? I'm sure the more experienced Trialers and members have read and commented on enough brakes to last a lifetime, but c'mon fella's, throw us Newbies a bone.........share your knowledge! middleageman.
