  1. What was with his riding possition at the start of the video? Also, I don't care how impressive the likes of Danny Mac are, there's something really satisfying about watching people barking mototrials bikes around like Bou.
  2. There shouldn't be any air in an oil bleed either... Baring in mind the pressures the system is put under when in use (Imagine how hard you yank the lever while riding) the seals and hose can take a fair amount of pressure before something being damaged. Just bring the bike inside (Don't try and remove the brake or you could break the hose since it's got solid ice inside) and put it in a warm room. IMO it's God's way of telling us not to ride in this weather
  3. All these pics are making me think maybe I should grind my rim a little more aggressively...
  4. It was the original incarnation of the Big Hit. To be honest it felt awesome. It felt so nimble, but getting good rims/tyres for it at the time was a pain. Goldtec made a rear end for it to convert it to 26/26 with an extra inch of rear travel, it was great for straight lining stuff but totally killed the handling.
  5. This. Originally signed up as G.O.A.O years ago but stupidly used my college email. Now im no longer at Uni I can't access that account so had to create a new account as GOAO 2. I want the 2 removed from this and the old accound deleting. *emails Admin again*
  6. Seconded for the five tens. I've got the Marzocchi versions which are half way between the 5:10 low and the 5:10 high but the soles are the same. So much grip you've actually got to take your foot off the pedal if you want to repossition it. Great support too so even small pedals don't put pressure on your foot. They'll last you ages as a riding shoe. Anything you hear to say they wear out fast is from people who've used them as regular shoes and the soles are too soft a coumpound for this.
  7. So you're supposed to drill your own disc mounts?
  8. I've currently got a dual ply Slow Reezay 2.4 Minion on the rear and I can vouch for the fact that it's pretty heavy (esp conpared to my 2.1 single ply Maxxis Advantage up front)), but the dual ply casing means I can run it nice and soft without pinching. Although I've rear that the way the Maxxis tyres work (because they're mainly designed for DH type stuff) is to use the slow rebound soft compound go generate good grip, though this reduces springiness which some people like for trials. This is where the TryAll compounds are supposed to be an improvement.
  9. I presume he means they don't hold stock of them so you have to order one/them and then they will make them for you.
  10. Thirded. The only way I'll know what pressure i'm running is to go and get a guage on it, but since it's half 1 in the morning and it's raining... I run them just hard enough that the sidewalls dont crease when I'm hopping. Gives it a nice bit of bounce for hops while offering adequate support and grip. Front: Maxxis Advantage 2.1 single ply. Rear: Maxxis Holly Roller Rear 2.4 dual ply slow reezaay.
  11. I can't see how steepening the head angle any more than it already is is going to make enough of a difference to the top tube length to not require a long high rise stem? IIRC aren't high rise stems designed for the modern frames with high rise BB's to correct the geometry? We ran low/short stems on the old low BB frames. When I changed to a high rise frame I had to fit a high rise stem to correct the riding possition.
  12. This http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=3330 in 5 bolt, 34t or 36t will be what you need. However, you might need to lengthen the chain.
  13. I have two on my DH rig. Not that that helps your dilema...
  14. Chainline is as near as perfect as I can see with my eyes. It's straight from the front ring, through the tensioner to the rear sprocket. This is what leaves me confused
  15. Following my thread a few weeks ago http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=157664&st=0&p=2203906&fromsearch=1&#entry2203906 I finally got out on the Zoo for a proper session this afternoon. I was very supprised at how well the old front Mono Mini held actually, it never let me down, so that'll be staying for now. However, what did supprise me though was how poor the rear brake felt. Little bite, slipping on hold, and felt very spongey (even though i bled it with LHM last week) The lever and slaves are the original style HS33's but with an aftermarket CNC lever. Brake is set up as straight as i can get it in the mounts. There are no leaks from any cylinder. I've been looking on Tarty at the different rear brake styles currently available, and they all seem to be going back to the original style where the cylinders are horizontal with the bars and going away from the recent trend of having the cylinder at 90deg to you (strange how hope ditched this layout several years ago in favour of the mini lever...) so basically, all the new styles of lever are now laid out in the same way as mine. So, what are the differences? Do they run different sizes cylinders to increase pad power? Would something like the Echo SL lever work with my old '33 slave cylinders? I also have a feeling it's the pads (magura red KoolStuff), but looking thruogh the pad reviews everyone has a different setup with a different opinion, so I will probably need a call to TB for a chat about it. But just in case, the frame is an '06 Pitbull, rim is a Trialtech Sport Drilled with a medium grind and Im using a hefty 4 bolt Zoo booster. Would there be any benifit in a water bleed instead of using LHM? Some of you guys seem to rate it for improved brake feel. I'm guessing with water being less viscous it quickens up the response/release? Also, I'm suffering from horrific chain skip under power (though only when rolling, not when hopping). I've got a feeling my chain is too beefy for my tiny rear sprocket (Trialtech HX round an 11t Gusset Gachelor) as i can see witness marks on the body of the sprocket between the teeth where the chain has been against it. Trouble is, to change the rear sprocket i would need to change the front too to keep my ratio correct, and that would mean a new bashring, so if it's possible I would prefer to just have to change the chain. I'm already running a dual jockey tensioner to try and remove the problem. I certainly didnt have the issue when i ran a standard sram chain on an old cassete sprocket. Sorry for all the questions, but I could do with spending as little money as possible on it (student....) so it's not really something I can afford to 'experiemnt' with things until I find something that works, but the rear brake i experienced today really dulled my confidence, which was in tatters anyway to be honest after several years of barely riding.
  16. You'd be better off with a Trial to be fair. You don't get that much more locking power with an M4 over the Mono Mini, let alone what the Mono Trial could give, just more modulation due to the different sized pistons.
  17. I've done it a few times. A load of us (BMXers, DJers, Trials) booked it out for the late-night-lockins they do so you can do whatever you want and get no hasstle off skaters for playing on the boxes. I don't know if they've changed it recently but there used to be a fair bit to play on.
  18. It's forecast a dry sunny day tomorrow http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/today.asp?zipcode=matlock What's drainage like? If it's raining overnight will it drain enough to be ridable tomorrow? All being well I should be popping up tomorrow morning for a play. Finally!
  19. Trial it up in Bones skatepark!
  20. then I'm still confused. A trials designed short? Or do you mean a trials brand like the hoodies?
  21. To those of you who have said shorts/pants; what would actually make shorts 'trials specific' over any other pair of shorts? DH/Freeride shorts surely offer everything you've said. Pockets, baggyness, durability, shaped to fit a riding possition, etc.
  22. Went up this afternoon. Left the house under a sunny blue sky, arrived at the quarry and the heavens opened Still, had a chance to have a look around,. Some fun looking stuff. Just need a dry day now
  23. It's a bit spur of the moment but since it's sunny I'm going to run up there this afternoon for a bit and have a scout around. If anyone's free and fancies it.
