  1. What are you stuck on? What can you do so far? As far as instructional videos go, you can't go wrong with 'Tricks and Stunts' followed by 'Bi-King'. If you already know the basic moves then move straight on to Bi-King, as that tells you how to put the moves (which you learn in T&S) into practice in sections, and how to make simple sections more fun/challenging etc.
  2. I still blame that video for the thousands of pounds ive spend replacing broken bike parts I don't know if you can still get it anywhere but I still like to dig out my old VHS collection and watch 'Evolve'. A cracking trials specific video featuring some of the top N.American riders of back when. A very young looking Ryan Leech, Jeff Lenosky, Lance Trappe, Chris Clarke, JJ Greg, amongst others. A nice mix of street, natural, techy stuff and spinny stuff, with a guest appearence from our very own Mr Hawyes!
  3. Cheers, Dan. That was far more logical than I was expecting for some reason :$
  4. This thread has really cheered me up on this dreary tuesday morning Personally, I'd much rather watch a good smooth rider string together a nice technical section than watch a TGS video. In my riding (of old) yes we would spend a bit of time just doing taps, gaps of sidehops but only as practice to build our skills and techniques before we strung a section together and put them into good use. For me, that's what real trials is about. As Mr Ashton once said, "It's all about practice. Practice practice practice!". TGS for me is this practice, which you then use in trying to clean a section.
  5. Having just learnt what TGS stands for, can I ask what 'Natty' means?
  6. Like Dirt used to be before it went monthly
  7. I refuse to refer to those 80's style disasters as trainers
  8. It could be worse. We could be riding multicoloured BMX's with the seat at a stupid angle wearing our little sister's jeans, luminous sneakers, a plad shirt and a cap with an XXXL peak jutting out of it...
  9. There used to be one years ago but i've not heard of it being around for ages now.
  10. I haven't ridden that many bikes in 10 years of trials riding!
  11. A bit confused really. I've USED 2 frames within 3 years, but only baught one within that time (the other frame was baught more than 3 years ago) so in theory i've HAD 2 frames, but only BAUGHT 1.
  12. I was just about to mention this. Unless he was displacing the water after cleaning the bike?
  13. Take up DH racing. That'll sort you out
  14. Cheers for the replies guys. It looks like we could get a good day out if it! A Saturday morning into afternoon would work best for me if that's any good for you guys? Then just need to choose a particular (dry) Saturday!
  15. As it says really. Looking to get over to Matlock some time in the near future but would be cool if there were some locals there to ride with/show me around a bit.
  16. It'll most likely depend on what kind of surface you're riding on as to which way you prefer. Looking at the shape of the tread blocks the 'normal' way to run it would be with the TryAll logo facing left (angled blocks indicating a rolling direction). Though I know I run my rear minion the 'wrong' way to try and aid traction on loose ground.
  17. Cheers guys. Yeah I've been searching videos of Matlock and it looks pretty good. I used to hang about up at the roaches just on the Leek side of Buxton but it's only really ridable when it's been bone dty for several days as it's really Peatie. I remember there being a quarry outside Buxton it'self too but it was years ago so can't remember if it was any good or not. "Unfortunately most pads will now be louder than your Maguras..." Let's be honest, this is the only real reason we ever used tar on our rims back then **SQUEAK**
  18. I'm not saying you're wrong, dude. I'd go with the Spanish too.
  19. Cheers, Luke. Yep it's me you will remember from the MBUK trials forum (I'm still a Moderator on there in fact) though it's gone pretty dead since the forums were all jumbled up with the other Future Publishing magazine forums. Cheers for the info. I had a look at the pad review thread the other day but began to get baffled by the number of reviews given that everyone was running a different level of grind/frame/booster/no booster etc so I found it quite hard to fathom out which pads would work best for me. I think a call to Tarty might be in order. I had a bad feeling somenoe would say that about the Mono Mini, and lets be honest, I'm not supprised. £60 for a new calliper isn't a massive ask I suppose but I think I will have to give it some time and see just how frustrated I get with the Mini, and wether I'm able to ride well/often enough to make it worth while forking out. Looking at the new HS33 levers they look like they should be a bit more effective at locking you up than the old brakes so they're an option too if needs be (or the CNC equivelant).
  20. I've seen/done far worse on a race car to get a job done before Though I'd never suggest impacting a bearing to remove it if the same bearing is going to be put back in (though its most often the only way), I'd say the rest of is fine DIY! *looks at ISO*
  21. The Americans will argue with you on that one
  22. How long have you been riding? If not very long, it's probably a combination of you using muscles you're not used to using, and riding a bike with a very different riding possition to a normal bike. Have you changed bar/stem/frame recently? As above, a change in geometry could be forcing you to ride in an unusual possition. Saying that, even if you havent changed anything and you've been riding a while, even just trying harder/bigger can overstress your muscles and you can start straining/pulling things. It's most likely going to be something of this nature, however, as with any back/spinal problems if you're worried then it won't hurt going to see your doctor about it. Your back is not something you want to risk. Speaking from experience with a now permanent neck problem, I don't wish it on anyone.
  23. I wonder, would this work for the ISO disk hub? That sounds sweet.
  24. Hey guys. It's been a while since I've given the trials bike any pain due to weekend work commitments and other stuff. However, race season has now ended so the trials bike can start being abused again. Basically, It's a missmatch of old (10 years) parts, newish parts, very new parts etc. eg: Frame is an '06 Zoo with the old Orange Trials forks, 2000 era HS33, Hope Mini, '09 Trialtech rims etc etc (a real age-mungrel) The biggest issue i've got it the brakes. The HS33 on Magura Redstuff pads was all the rage (and all we had) back when I started and other than a set of plazmatics (which I wasnt overly impressed with) i've never run anything else. I see things have changed a lot over the past year or so with pad compounds etc so im guessing redstuff are considered pretty poor in comparrison these days. They could probably do with a good bleed as it hasn't been done in a good few years :$ but i'm assuming i could improve things greatly if i was to stick in some modern pads? Rear rim is a Trialtech drilled on a medium/rough grind. Up front I've got a Hope Mino Mini from around '04 with Hope's organic pads. Try as I might, I just can't get a good bite from it! Pads are brand new and bedded in and the rotor was fully cleaned before refitting. Does anybody do aftermarker trials specific disc pads or do you just run the OEM pads? Also, if anyone is from around the north-staffs/cheshire/derbyshire border area (matlock isn't far) and know of anywhere to ride (natural preferably) please drop me a PM, as all of my old trials buddies seem to have gone off to do other things so finding places where other locals now go would be great
