  1. haha fair enough i agree with the,say "image" part of your post,thinking it over it seems like most companies are dedicated to just one big thing. for the other part i have to say that its sad that craftmanship isnt affordable for the mass anymore,hence the taiwanese production. there was a time every fichtel&sachs 3-gear hub was made by hand and maybe hydraulic tools to stamp hubshells etc,and nearly every single hub i´ve seen from the 50-70s is still rideable,and if not,repairable. todays sram(they bought f&s) i-motion3 hubs have a fraction of the lifespan while costing not much less for the customer than in the say 70s(inflation bla bla,i know),compared to the income that days and today.and the whole gearing unit is to be replaced if something doesnt work,because our labour for repairing the hub is more expensive than that whole thing... maybe i am a bit too oldskool oriented,i just wanted to point out the thoughts that build the background of my posts. and for the "beloved marino" snappish part, he´s just doing what everyone did decades ago,building stuff that lasts instead of mass products,thats the honest reason why i support his work on topic(mostly):i´d like to know if theres a chance to get koxx´ brake pad compounds receipt,now theyre finished
  2. as if we were bmxers? whats wrong with a company being versatile in product range? with involvement in comps even more people would get to know the brand,should be a good thing. in south america you see a marino in nearly every comp(okay,and street jam ),and he´s mostly building polo-,bmx- and street frames. just banging out ideas here

  8. someone who is able to invest a few thousands will appear and do the same as koxx did,product wise,imo. isnt it all the same.nowadays companies dont manufacture their stuff theirselves,they order it in shenzhen, an "industrial city with freight port" as i would call it. maybe its about time for customers to jump off the discounter train and buy stuff from people like hope,heatsink,marino and so on again,getting "real" products instead of mass produced ones.(edit:okay,hope do kinda mass prod.but its all done by them) nothing against the guys behind koxx,but i always had the thought of overpriced snaphappy stuff about their products. btw a frame costs someone who orders more then 100 items in shenzhen around 60.-€,once the jigs are adjusted. thats with powder coating
  9. i ditched the 90A resin,going for rubber compounds now. with the rest of the resin i made this: a bit of sanding here and there and i can make 3 sets of pads at a time,yay!
  10. drugs are bad ,mmmkay!? joking aside,as everyone in my age i got experiences with several substances(not included the isocyanates from making pads haha),and i think,one should try but not exaggerate everything he/her can. its the compromise of living once:you only live once so why miss something,and you only live once so why ruin it early and die young. fun fact:never touched anything psychoactive except beer since i ride bikes(dj,trials,street)
  11. me not pretty much no idea whats wrong with my compound atm,so i couldnt be much help here... but my guess would be its the rim alloy vs. the wrong pads for it
  12. the master piston has to be smaller to get more power, hydraulic transmission is surface by pressure-master : slave. the smaller the masters surface is than the slaves,the more force transmission is present for example a 14 mm master piston and 2 28mm slave pistons(example is a disc brake) has a power transmission of 1:4,means your fingers power is multiplied by the lever blades mechanical transmission,then by the hydraulic. hypothetic calc: 100N force from finger x 6(say thats the mech transm.) x 4 =2400N resulting press force,thats 1200 per piston,nearly 120 kg. with an average friction coefficient of the pad(lets take 0.5,isnt bad or good either) its 60 kg of static braking force applied to the braking surface (per side obviously).now you got the press force, this multiplied by the rim or disc diameter gives the torque load,which is basically what is slowing you down... you see,it isnt just boring out a piece of alloy and get some o-rings,its a science for its own. saying that making brake pads is one too
  13. hahaha sorry,but thats too funny. i dont know what baby oil is made from,but if it isnt mineral oil its likely to f*ck up the seals. silicone oils do,glycols like dot do.
  14. it didnt.the only way to solve cured polyurethane is to re-cure it with isocyanate.so i took pads from the old batch which broke while demoulding and were to soft.and powdered them,thought i could soften up the compound with mixing that powder in. i have the vague suspicion i need an urethan rubber,echo cnc refills seem to be made from something like that.but first i´ll try a softener to not having to bin my whole resin,have 80% of that stuff left lol

  16. get a new screen at the bay,found one every time one of my phones displays cracked,and it werent just a few see,you just exceeded it,if it wouldve been only the 9.81m/s² it probably wouldnt´ve been cracked(little correction joke)

  18. it wasnt really bad imo, but welding is definitely his main skill. as far as i know thats his street bike,dont know why he took it with him in that case the moderators in spanish languaged tv are so funny
  19. kind of confused now,the 90a mix seems to be so hard that it literally polishes the rim,and no power at all. now i´m stuck until the softening agent arrives,then i can find my way down to the right shore hardness. theres definitely a line,when you cross it all advantages of the pads are gone...

  22. yeah,if you want power ´til the rim collapses you should aim for grind,nice pads and a 4 bolt booster.then a 4 finger 05 maggie or a racingline lever and win! edit:only quoted you because i totally agree with you,aimed at f**me though
