  1. ah well, never mind. have to sort something out for next weekend i guess.
  2. If you can get something like methylated spirits under the grips, then they should slide right off. I don't think that it should do anything to your handlebars if they're painted and once they're off the meths will evaporate pretty quickly leaving you with a handlebar end ready for a lever. Apparently foam grips are hard to get back on,but if you do the meths trick again then they should slide on and the alcohol will dry over time.
  3. weather reports say it'll warm up and stop raining about 12. i'll need to get going soon so i can catch the train though.
  4. i take it we're still riding? raining & doesn't look like it'll give up.
  5. i should be there by 11.15, if i'm avaiable. if you pm me your number, i'll be able to text you to let you know.
  6. i'm selling my Zoot. PM me if you want.
  7. I'm getting a Czar 07 4-bolt, which weighs 2.05kg - and yes, i know it's heavy. But I have an onza t-vee and I just wanted to compare between the two frames - so i have a better grasp of how much my mod will actually weigh once it's built.
  8. that's fine. sorry you didn't feel well. :/ if you give me a quick text now, i'll be able to contact you when there's a ride.
  9. pm me your number, and I'll tell you what's going on.
  10. I'm gonna buy a czar 07 frame second-hand, and just wanted to know if there are any bad defects from the manufacturing point of view. it's a 4-bolt only, if that makes any difference?
  11. completely up to you. I don't mind where I ride, as long as I get to.
  12. well, i'm sure we could find some places. I know the basin, and there's KFC or whatever, but not sure otherwise. I've just texted a guy who i usually ride with to see if he can come too.
  13. loughborough's easiest for me, but i've never ridden there before.
  14. haha. I'm up for saturday, Dan. Loughborough or Leics?
  15. Okay. I've just had a look at the calliper design & it has 6 pistons. I guess that's what gives its all-round power? Pretty brake, too. Very tempted to put this on the front of my Zoot until I finish the build. From the sound of this, I should get a cable running up front and a hydro on the rear to obtain maximum power to the calliper? I've looked at the shimano brakes too, and they have had so many good reviews. I guess I shouldn't really complain about weight until I can actually ride well - especially as I ride heavy onzas rn. Thanks, I feel a lot more informed now.
  16. So basically, I've had so many mixed responses about discs that I really don't know what I should think about them. I'm building a mod at the moment, and i was planning on running dual discs, but my excitement about buying them has rapidly decreased... It seems that whenever I search for old threads about hydraulic disc brakes, I find that three or four of the posters will say that they have hopes up front and they're amazing - but then there'll be a couple who really disagree (espec. with hopes). So my conclusion is that overall hydraulics aren't worth the money. But my HS33s are awesome. I've never had any trouble that wasn't my fault, and 99% of threads i've read agree with that. But what really is there to go wrong? They both use hydraulic fluid to move callipers - so why no hate for rims, and loads for discs? I know there's the whole contamination kerfuffle - but you can sort that out with meths (i have in the past)? Which hydraulic discs have the best hold, and which mechanical ones for the same?
  17. I have this week off of school & I have nothing better to do. Anybody up for a ride?
  18. I've looked at the Echo Lite before, but it doesn't really appeal to my "OOH SHINY" side, and even though it's the lightest frame suggested so far, it's only 200g lighter... The blade is nice & pretty cheap considering, but wouldn't the head angle almost cancel out the overall feel of length whilst riding? & the onza ice is pretty & the bash plate is probably a good idea considering my "f**k that's big. i'll try it anyway" approach. so it's a contender. the onza limey i've seen on a ride before and it looks great & holds a bash plate if I remember right?
  19. What about the Zoo Lynx? Similar geo, but with a higher BB. Tarty explained this as meaning that there is a higher ground clearance, and it's more agile on the rear? It's also lighter and prettier.
  20. What are your favourite mod frames? So, I bought an old rusty Onza T-Vee in late September after playing around on an old hardtail MTB and found that I really enjoy trials. For Christmas, I got given a second-hand Onza Zoot 24" and I've been out riding on that ever since. I've decided (and started) to buy parts and build up a mod from scratch - but before I can buy much else, I need to decide on a frame. The geometries for the T-Vee were fine for when I started, but I now find it hard to get onto my rear wheel & it feels too short to be comfortable. Wheelbase 1005mm, Chainstay Length 375mm & BB +55mm. And my Zoot seems just long enough, and I'm being given a longer stem so that it's more comfortable. Wheelbase 1040mm, Chainstay Length 375mm & BB +35mm So from those geometries, I'm guessing that I'll need a long frame with a rise of about +45? Can anybody shed some light on this?
  21. thanks, that's great.
  22. I've read quite often that a 160mm rotor is best for a mod bike. But surely, if you're not worried about weight, then a 180, 185 or 203mm rotor would be able to hold the wheel still with more ease? If school has taught me anything about turning forces, it's that if you get further away from the axle, your overall force doesn't need to be as large? Just wondering. I also quite like the look of the whole oversized dual disc setup on a mod...
  23. hah! love tarty. sorted. thanks, lads.
  24. Thanks! I take it that a 3-cross and a 4-cross will both work on a 32H rim/hub? I'm not sure where the information on the ERD is? In fact, what is an ERD? Something something diameter? rims to choose from: http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/19_inch_rims/echo_tr_rear_19_inch/c517p10713.html or http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/19_inch_rims/monty_221_rear_19_inch/c517p2155.html and a closed fixed disc hub. probably either: http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/116mm_fixed_hubs/bonz_expert_rear_disc/c62p11743.html or http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/116mm_fixed_hubs/echo_tr_rear_disc/c62p10707.html or http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/116mm_fixed_hubs/rockman_bub_rear_disc/c62p10817.html
  25. Hey, how can I find out what length spokes I'll need for any hub and rim combo? Right now, I'm thinking of splashing out on a custom rear wheel. How will I know that I've bought the right length spokes to fit the 19" rim? I know that I should be measuring from flange to nipple hole (or whatever the proper name is), but doesn't how you thread the spokes also make a difference to the length you need?
