  1. I've used cranks with inserts on mountain bikes before. In my experience the insert is there to protect the crank itself. The idea being that if you damage the threads you are only damaging the insert and not the cranks themselves, therefore you can just replace the insert and not the whole crank = much cheaper. Just tighten the insert back in and you should be fine. Maybe use some threadlock
  2. I wouldn't mind being shown around too if that's okay? I've recently moved to the area

Vlog 45 is brilliant, has a good feel of messing about on your bike with friends
  4. Ha, that's amazing. Who was your mate? You might be seeing it again soon, I'm moving to Glasgow next week. Oh okay, I thought they were supposed to be like that haha. Riiiight, I'd always wondered why I have to run the adapter a size up from the disc. It doesn't cause any problems though, just means I won't be able to run a 203mm disc with a standard adapter. Do you know how old it is? What's the spec like now compared to when your mate had it?
  5. Upside down bars? That can't be nice to ride. This is my bike, looking at it now that front end looks sky high.
  6. From what Leon has said it sounds like everything I've done should make it harder, but so far it's made it easier. I'll post a picture tomorrow, Ross, once I've worked out how haha. I've just fired back a few pints of guiness after a hard fell run, so nothing productive will take place tonight
  7. I'm fairly new to trials and bought a bike off an experienced rider, I was using his setup but struggling to pick things up. I've started making changes to stem height, bar rise, bar roll etc but its slow progress as I'm doing it trial and error without knowing how the change will affect the ride before I make the change. He did have a very low bar on which felt like it was putting my weight too far forward, so I replaced that with a trial tech one with a lot of rise, instantly felt better. Ive recently rolled the bar forward quite a lot and my rear wheel hops have come on leaps and bounds. How will these things change the way the bike handles when riding trials/street?Stem length, stem height, stem angle, bar length, bar rise, bar roll (how far forward you roll the bar) Cheers all!
  8. Shimano make little figure of eight shaped things with lips on that stop disc bolts coming loose. Each one does two bolts, so three per wheel. You could try those
  9. I'm getting better. I played classical about 14 years ago so I think that's helped stuff come back to like positions and fingerings etc. I'm moving to Glasgow in February so I'm gonna go find a fiddle club
  10. I can't wait to get home and ride in the snow. What did he think of the show? In my opinion and everyone else I've spoken to; you didn't miss much.
  11. I've sent you a PM Onza but have just seen this. I can do this Saturday if the two of you can?
  12. And by that I mean does anybody play the violin? I started about a month and a half ago and am picking it up quicker than expected. I'm doing Irish fiddle stuff. Anybody else?
  13. Did anybody else go to this at the Kendal Mountain Festival? What did you think of it?

    Lights

Hi, I use the Lumenator and Lumen800 from http://www.mtbbatteries.co.uk/ The Lumenator on the bars gives you a good spread but throws the light a long way too, and the Lumen800 on my helmet gives me a slightly more focused beam. More than enough light for night riding and really good battery life. I've a few friends who bought the cheap ebay lights, some set on fire whilst charging and a few just randomly cut out whilst riding with absolutely no warning, so I would avoid those. That pair cost me about £160 and the guy is amazing. He's a member of the singletrack mountain bike forum and is known for his amazing customer service and knowledge. Really can't rate him enough

Cool seeing in that how trials helps the mountain biking. Ben Lomond is on my list for when I get back up to Faslane early next year.

    Morecambe and Wide

Nice video, like it. Is there a big riding scene in morecambe? I'm from just the other side of Carnforth.
  17. That's ace. Obviously loads of work has gone into it, looks good

    Tubeless?

Gorilla tape in the 'handy roll' size is absolutely perfect, works a lot better than the Stans stuff and costs a lot less. Not had a puncture in the 18 months I've been running tubeless.
  19. I drive a van, so should we get to that stage you could always get a lift with me in the passion wagon
  20. Would that be Ali Clarkson? I spend half my life watching his videos. Kills me because I lived near Glasgow for just short of a year and didn't ride back then. @Brettoll and @bikeperson45 I've watched that video yeh. To be honest I know what I need to do, just need to get out and practise, and it doesn't happen as much as I'd like. My balance has come on loads, I can trackstand for ages and rock from wheel to wheel, have found I can do hem on my mtb too. @CC12345678910 Barrow is a bit of a trek for me, it's only an hour from home but with living away I never really get there. If I get a decent bit of time off and can work it out I'll pop up and have a look. @onzatpro09 I'd be very interested in that, cheers. Swindons only 20 mins from me so it'd be ideal. Won't have my t bike at work until the week after next but once it's here I'll be well up for going for a ride. Sorry for the delayed reply folks, been away mountain biking in Iceland and Ibiza. Walks away looking smug...
  21. Afternoon all, I'm Jay I've got myself a 24" Marino and started having a go at trials. It's more of a street bike and some of you may tell me off for trying to learn trials on it, but coming from a mountain biking background I thought it made more sense. And I've got it now anyway haha. Been riding for a few months, trying to master the basics and I've got good at balanacing but like any true newb I'm sure, I still can't rear wheel hop. I live in South Cumbria but work in Lyneham, Swindon, so I'm split between the two. So far I've been riding on my own and it's not doing much for progression. Is anyone in either of these areas? Jay
