I pulled it apart and shoved some oil on the bearings, silent now as for it being old...it works perfectly for what i do and they are still pretty sought after, regularly making £40 s/h on ebay due to being apparently very good when run in SLI

My graphics card fan has gotten rather noisy lately, is there anything i can do about it? It's a Geforce 8800GT 512mb. I was wondering if there was a new fan I could retrofit, I had seen modified versions of my card with new cooling but I think these were overclocked models built by a company.
-
I shall give that a try, guess its worth a shot! I have tried 2 graphics card already, 1 of which i know is a working one and yet i have the same result. The PSU appears to be working fine, both HDs whir up as normal, all fans work and all the pretty lights come on unfortinately i can't test another PSU on this unless i find a dell specific one...yay go dell! Been on the overclockers website, had been looking at motherboard, processor, ram and fan deals which looked tempting, although i would still need to get myself a new PSU which suddenly increases the price and makes it far less tempting
-
Nope, standard dell xps 620i (apart from 4gb ram and an extra HD). No inbuilt graphics so i cant access bios unless i do it blind!
-
Yeah that is what i am fearing is the case! I will see if anybody else pipes up with an answer otherwise i guess ill order a new one

Eurgh computers frustrate me.... Basic story, i shoved a load of photos i needed to organise onto my desktop...screen started flickering and computer bogged down to super slow...so i checked connections, plugged monitor in second port and it did the same thing. I now have nothing on my screen apart from occasional white lines.I feared i overcooked soemthing whilst doing this (ram or graphics seem likely to me?) Plugged my hd into my laptop (i have adaptor cables), moved all desktop photos into a folder incase it was that what the problem, this did not change anything. A second monitor has been tried, no luck. Plugged a spare working graphics card in, no luck. Tried both my cards in the other slot...no luck. Motherboard has never beeped when the computer is turned on, apparently they should, its still not beeping anyway. Ram has been taken out, and then computer beeps repeatedly, no signal to monitor still. Ram has been inserted into the 2 other spare slots, still no luck So after all that...any suggestions? I would really like to fix it!

I will review them once they have had some miles, so far though the superstars have more power straight off
-
New caliper fitted and a set of fresh pads all round (shimano resin back, superstar resin front), rotors cleaned and the brakes feel great! Little bit of squidge, but its very minimal and i like it as it keeps the levers comfy. Brakes havent even bedded in yet and they have awesome power, scared to find out what they will be like when properly bedded. Been a retarded and expensive route secondhand, but at least i now have brakes that work. Now to find a larger frame...
-
Well the helicoil worked...then started leaking, so i have now ordered a brand new caliper for £50, as CRC dont have any shimano ones in stock and wont do for ages:( (they were £30). Eurgh, thats another £50 gone!
-
They were secondhand but described as being like new. For all the hassle i may as well of gone for a new set No worries on the suggestion part, its just one of those things

I bled the brakes the traditional way in the end as the syringe pipe kept popping off. Rear went really well, nice and solid feel now and bite point is excellent!. Front didnt go so well, the brake kept getting air in after i nipped the nipple bolt by hand, which the rear was ok with, turns out the threads were stripped Bought a helicoil kit seeing as slx calipers dont seem to be available from CRC curently (way more expensive elsewhere) and also seeing as i dont have much to lose now that its worthless Should do the trick, theres just about enough meat there i think :)Otherwise i shall order a different shimano caliper. Bit pissed now about it all, wasnt really expecting all this hassle.
-
Stupid thing is, i have a farm, we used to have loads of syringes for the pigs! Is 60ml really enough? i had been looking at 100ml just for overkill
-
I just watched a video on it, seems i have the right technique but not enough patience! Unfortunately i dont have a syringe with a large enough capacity, and there arent any local addicts round here that i know of Need to quit moaning and just do it
-
Yeah it seems so eurgh i HATE bleeding brakes! Always seems to go wrong, its the only part of building a bike that i struggle with for some stupid reason
-
So they arrived and i fitted them. Are they supposed to have a late bite point and feel spongey as hell feel? Mine just feel terrible, the lever reach adjustment also doesnt go out far enough
-
I doubt my brake mounts could handle the power of a 203 and yeah eddyboy, the slx brakes come with the suitable adaptors
-
Decided to go for 180mm rotors all round, figured that a little 160mm out back probably isnt enough for me these days
-
Cheers for your help guys, just bought a pair of Shimano SLX brakes Bikes slowly getting to decent working condition again!
-
Anybody?
-
My shitty halfords brake caliper burst the other day (theres not enough metal round the seal) and my tektro thing at the back keeps dicking about so i just want to buy a new pair of brakes! I am unsure as to what is good these days, ideally have a 180mm rotor upfront and 160mm out back. My budget is £100 or thereabouts, i rather not spend too much more but i shall if its really worth it. I am riding xc, i rarely find a descent in east anglia that will justify super pimpy vented rotors and all that jazz. I like the look of the clarks skeletal brakes which seem to get good reviews+are within my budget! Any help would be greatly appreciated

24, When i'm not at uni: Car repairs and restoration, building work, and fabrication. I also throw some sick moves on a combine harvester when the time comes, awwwww yeahhhhh!
-
The front brake is cable, not hydro. Its a grimeca caliper, havent seen those things in about 10 years! Bike looks ok for the price, i feel there may be a little bit of leeway to get a few quid knocked off but i would be happy spending that much because its based around such a wicked little frame!
-
Isn't that just D30? If so thats been around and available in protective clothing for a while now
-
If anybody cares, i fitted the shock tonight and....WOW the bike is like a different machine now, so responsive and a pleasure to ride, its rekindled my love for biking again i cant wait to get riding! The shock is about.5mm from touching the seat tube of the frame, pretty tight! Managed to use the old bushing from the previous shock and the bushings from this new one, to cobble together the right bushings for the new shock to fit Now to give the frame a fresh lick of paint and the bike will look respectable!

Got this off ebay, should be superior to the Radium, and good enough for me
