  1. I think I know what you mean and if i'm understanding you right it could work, though i'm still not sure about durability. Any chance of you scribbling on that onza image to make it a bit clearer what your thinking?
  2. I tried bodging one of those cheapy ones off a crap bike onto mine. With a bit of fiddling you can use the QR skewer to hold it on but it rotates round if you hit it hard and the wheel would come loose on occasions. You would need to find some way of connecting it the bike so it was rigid, bearing in mind no trials specific frames have those lugs for panniers or any other area where one could be attached. Another problem is they only protect the side of the mech. If you're sidehoppding up stuff and come up short you tend to land on the back or the bottom of the mech which is not protected. I've broken so many barrel adjusters you wouldn't believe. You can't simply extend the tubing below the mech and bend it over as it would crush up into the mech and even using metal sheet to make a box wouldn't be strong enough unless it was really thick and then you're looking at a really ugly and heavy component that's just not worth it. Personally I can't see their being a big demand for such a product especially with most modern trials riders being obsessed with weight!! Sorry to make it sound like your idea's shite, i'm not saying it is - i'd love there to be a way of not knackering my mech so often but i think it would be very difficult to come up with something that did the job. You've got to remember the ones on cheapy bikes are so the mech doesn't brake when you drop the bike on the floor, in trials the impact would be much greater and also from a completely different angle. Don't let this put you off, the sign of a true designer and engineer is someone who can make the seemingly imossible and prove everyone wrong. Daniel

  5. "hmmm, I wonder if this is solid enough to hop on?"
  6. All I can say is don't go into analytical chemistry. I spent 2 1/2 years in a lab and had started looking for a new career after just 6 months. The work is not only dangerous (handling carcenogenics and other toxic shite every day) but extremely repetitive and the money is terrible, I was on just over £11,000 when I left and the max pay for the company was £16,500!! Of course money's not everything but you'll need enough to live. Oh and if you take A levels go to uni, sounds stupid but I walked into my job after sixth form and it made A Levels seem like a waste of time, having said that i'm now at uni doing an aircraft engineering degree for which A levels were essential. Most people never know what they want to do so I wouldn't worry about it. I'm not certain I want to be in the aviation industry but the degree will give me more options. The only way you'll find out what is right is by doing the job, try and get work experience in areas you are interested in or visit companies that do that kind of work and see what you think. The most important thing to remember is that you don't have to find a career straight away. Companies won't look down on you for having multiple jobs on your CV (unless they're for silly short amount of time), it shows you're versatile and they no longer expect people to stay with them for life. Sorry I went on a bit but I hope what i've said will be useful.
  7. I'd say it really depends what you mean by need fixing. If you want to remove the axle, clean all the bearings and rebuild unless you've got an uber fancy hub you can't really do anything wrong - when you take it apart line up all the parts in the order they came out, then reassemble in reverse, it's quite simple really. If its only the cones need tightening because the wheel moves from side to side on the hub then you really shouldn't be asking - a chimpanzee could do that. Again with the front brake it depends what you've got - if it's a V then I can't really think what can be fixed, changing pads and cables is childs play and things like broken springs can't be fixed on most models. If you've got a Magura then I have no idea since I hate the things but I wouldn't think it can be that difficult. Tell us what you've got and i'm sure we'll be able to tell you how to fix it.
  8. was alright but no trials and a complete twat presenting it, wouldn't really worry about having missed it
  9. I snapped my MAD, was older than '04 though but I think the same design. Both seat stays came away from the seat tube - never even thought to send it back.
  10. was thinking exactly the same thing myself!!
  11. try looking here: http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....showtopic=61641 These three sites also have lot of legal free downloads, all ska and punk music: http://www.moonskaeurope.com/mp3s.html http://www.householdnamerecords.co.uk/media/mp3s.html http://www.hell-cat.com/ For pop suggestions I think Jems album Finally Woken is pretty damn good as is the new Gorillaz album. I'm really liking 'cool' by Gwen Stephanie as well. That should keep you busy for a while!!
  12. Modulation means the brake doesn't always lock the instant you pull the lever, it allows you to vary (modulate) the brake power depending on how hard you are pulling. The amount of modulation can be varied by changing pads, levers, brakes and rim coating (ground, tar or ceramic). Hope that makes sense
  13. impressive lack of coordination you're demonstrating there :P

    Bb Axle Width

just wondering what size bottom bracket axle is needed for these frames - i'm assuming a 113mm will be too narrow to get the cranks/chainring past the stays. Cheers, Daniel
  15. I was always under the impression that the chain should be changed when you change the cassette since they wear together, especially if you have been using the set-up for a long time therefore giving it high wear. A new cassette with an old chain means that the chain (possibly now stretched) does not match up properly with the new cogs and causes the gears to slip especially under high tension which is not the best thing to have on a trials bike. anyway, i've always used a sora 12-23 tooth 8spd with a sram PC48 chain and that works just fine and provides a nice range of close gear ratios.
  16. I couldn't find anything using the search and wondered if anyone on here has had/got one or ridden one? Would like to know if they're any good - how they ride, weight, geometry etc and how it would compare to a mk1 MAD? Cheers, Daniel
  17. do you mean the seat stay welds broke and they came away from the seat tube - that's how mine broke, didn't realise it was common. Had mine rewelded and am also in the process of spraying - or maybe polishing??
  18. with the options of a smooth road, a narrow wall or a bunch of evil pointy rocks to choose from, the typical trials rider decides of course to take the simple route home!

    Keyboard

use google, type in 'keyboard tabs' and choose a site, there's millions and you can get anything from Mozart to Marilyn Manson!!! Have fun.
  20. supercycles.co.uk is the only place I know of, £63 each!!
  21. don't know names, they're probably about 17ish, two rides koxx's the rest a mix of ultra expensive bikes - oranges, brisas and so on, there must be about 8 that come in usually. It's been a long while since i've got out of Dereham for a ride so if you want to arrange a meet we should try and sort something out - I could bring some of the Dereham crew as well?
  22. 'tis on the suffolk norfolk border - the farthest east point in the whole country just so you know. You ought to come to norwich some time, i could arange a meet with some of the locals and they usually manage to get some lowestoft riders to come in - only thing is they are all literally professional level, 12 foot gaps from static and 10 foot drops kind of people. They make me feel so bad I just end up watching them instead of riding!!
  23. quality :) Matt, try replacing the * with the obvious think i'll add this one if you don't mind http://forporn.ytmnd.com/
