    Headset Help

Chances are if it won't tighten properly then the bearings are the wrong size. What make headset is it? if you let us know then someone may know the right size bearings. Other than that there could be a few other problems. You haven't stated whether it was new or s/h, if it's second hand the cups could be badly worn, look for pitting or grooves cut into the bearing cups and crown race. If that's fine then you could be putting it together wrong. The bearings, assuming there in a cage, should be positioned so they face the cups, with the flat part of the cage facing outwards. If it's all together in the right order then chances are something's missing or the bearings are wrong. Like I said let us know exactly what you got and we may be able to offer more help. Daniel

    Insurance Vs. Cars

I insured my first car, a 1.2 S reg ('98) Punto, for £700 tpft when I was 18, zero no claims but had been driving my dads car for almost a year. That was with Endsleigh. I'm currently driving a 1.6 Civic VTi with 160bhp and pay just £475 tpft through Norwich Union, but i'm now 21 and have 2 years no claims. If you're getting rediculously high quotes everywhere it suggests you live in a high risk area or have something else going against you. Unfortunately at your age there's very little you'll be able to do to reduce a premium but that's just the way it is and it's why the vast majority of new drivers own beat up old Fiestas. Bite the bullet, own a heap for a couple of years, drive carefully and your premiums will soon come down. Daniel
  7. I'll be bringing a mate as well, possibly 3 if the other 2 can sort transport. Well looking forward to this, new place, new people, should be a great laugh. See you at 11. Daniel
  8. Where's the best (cheapest) place to park that's not miles from the meet point? Does the pool have a car park I could use or is that for customers only? Cheers, Daniel
  9. For a stock hub below £100 Hope is your only option, there's either the mono or the XC both around £80 and available in blue. They're basically the same except the XC has a disc mount and you'll hear very little against either. They're both significantly better than anything else in their price range. You'd be lucky to get a usable King even second hand for £100 but if you could up your budget to £150 you should be able to find one, though finding a blue one may take some time. At that price the new Hope Pro II trials to be released in January is also an option but will only be available in black or silver. Personally i'd go with a Hope Mono, or an XC if you plan to run a disk in the future. I've had no problems with mine as yet and if you do a search on here you'll find some pretty good recommendations. Daniel
  10. hehe. I'm doing aircraft engineering at college so you're kinda right. I've gotta drive from Dereham, should take max 1 1/2 hours. I'm usually about by 9am so could be in Cambridge by 11 but any time suits me really. Only thing is the only place I know is The Junction, dunno where you wanna meet but it'll have to be somewhere easy to find.
  11. Unfortunately the best street riding does seem to be around historic buildings, certainly where I live any way. I'm always very conscious about damaging stuff and always make sure I know it's something I can do before I do it. Other people are different and don't care but i''ve never really understood that kind of attitude. Daniel
  12. I'd go with the above, 100mm 10deg stem and 1.5" bars. It's what I run on my Brisa and seems like a damn good compromise between street and 'proper' trials to me. If you're lucky Mark Anthony may still have some EA50 stem and bar deals in this combination on ebay, if you're even luckier like I was they might give you EA70 bars by mistake instead. I got both brand new for £46! Daniel EDIT: they do and cos i'm nice here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/easton-EA50-Bar-Stem...1QQcmdZViewItem
  13. I'm in desperate need of a change of scenery so weather permitting i'll come.
  14. The weathers s'posed to be pretty poor all day but if it's not too bad i'm game. What sort of time and where abouts were you thinking of? Daniel
  15. I've just ordered a set for my Brisa, but for the opposite reason - I want to make it more trialsy (if that is indeed possible with such a frame). I currently have DMR wingbars with 3" rise and it bunnyhops real nice though it is worse for proper trials stuff like sidehops and gaps. Your stem length and rise will also effect things. Go for a shorter higher rise stem, say a 90mm 20 degree one and that should make it better for street stuff. In general high front end = street, low = trials. It's up to you to find the perfect balance since everyone's style is different. Hope that helps Daniel

    Ea50 Stem

I was wondering if the Easton EA50 stem would take the abuse trials gives. I know the bars are supposed to be awesome and have noticed Mark Anthony are doing a deal where you can get stem and bars for £45, a rather good price imo. My only concern is whether the stem would take it. I ride all street trials, i'm not heavy (10.5st) but can sometimes be a little unsmooth. If anyone has or has had one or anyone in the know could you please tell me what you think? If it's pap any other suggestions for bar and stem combis less than £50 would be appreciated. I'm after sub 2" rise bars (I currently have Wingbars which are touching the clouds!) and a 100mm 10 degree rise stem. Thanks in advance Daniel
  17. When i got my first decent bike in '97 all my mates were dirt jumping so i followed suit. It wasn't until i stumbled across a few images of Hans Ray riding 18" bikes in a way that just shouldn't be possible that i knew trials existed and i was hooked there and then. Luckily some other older guys in my area were already half decent and i managed to get in with them. Everyone rode 14" GT Zaskars and Avalanches since trials frames just didn't exist. None of them ride anymore, they're all like 30 years old. But now i'm the oldest trials rider in my area getting all the little kids to copy me!!! Didn't mean to write so much but you got me reminiscing about the good ol' days!

    Where Do You Live?

makes no difference, Dereham just does not exist!! Guess it'll have to be Norwich then :P

    Where Do You Live?

The nearest place to me it recognises is 20 miles from where i actually live!! Any one else have this problem or is there a way of adding towns?
  20. just weighed mine, only 177g. Like i said to someone else there's two on ebay atm way cheaper than in the shops, I got mine from there and only paid £12.50. Has saved my frame once already. Here's the link http://search.ebay.co.uk//search/search.dl...tle=armourdillo
  21. No. It's got six thick plastic rods that run lengthways down the tube, when you hit it on stuff the shock is transfered along the length of the rods spreading the load. I have one and have used it too, definately does the job (Y)
  22. From that picture it looks like it's simply a barrel adjuster from a rear mech attached cleverly to one of the lugs. I'm guessing that black part pushes into the lug on the frame and is threaded so the barrel adjuster screw can be screwed in and out tightening/slackening the cable and therefore chang the gears. To make one yourself shouldn't be too hard but you would need something threaded that the barrel adjuster screw would fit into and that would also fit into the lug. Alternatively you may be able use the barrel adjuster already in the mech, the head of the cable that usually goes into the shifter would go directly into the end of the adjuster instead and the cable tightened in the usual way. Not sure if this would work since it may be difficult to get the mech perfectly set up, possibly worth a try though and it would be free. Daniel
  23. "anyone else snapped them??" try everyone who's owned one - including me. On mine both seat stays came away from the seat tube. I only noticed when my brake got really spongy! It was still ridable though unlike yours and many others that have broken completely.
  24. no, the tensioner bolts on in place of the mech .
  25. where abouts and what time? - been a while since i've been there and would be nice to ride with some of you lot. I'll see if any of the Dereham crew are up it. I have added you to msn, i'm the_vertically_chalanged@hotmail.com Daniel
