  1. They should perform equally, they are all the same freewheel.
  2. The main reason we went for eyelets was an engineering reason again. Joe will post pictures later of the rim and as you will see the distance from the edge of one square hole to the next is approx. 15mm. That means that the spoke hole has to fit in a strip of thin alloy 15mm x 30mm.. We therefore felt it prudent initially to use eyelets. As Joe said, we may introduce it without eyelets at a later stage but we will review the situation when there are a lot more out there in use and we have more feedback.
  3. Without wishing to give an engineering tutorial, you can only press holes out of a single skin rim. To press out a hole you have to have a die on the other side of the skin to allow the punch to make a clean hole. If you do not support the back you just distort the metal. To cut square holes larger than the round holes at the back requires CNC machining. The only other way to stamp holes is to create a bigger round hole in the back through which a die can go to support the back while the hole in the top skin is pierced. This is how our hog logo is pressed in on the double skins and how several other manufacturers "square holes" are pressed in.
  4. These rims have cnc machined square holes. Each rim takes over 20 minutes of time on a 1/2 million pound cnc machine just to cut those holes. That is in addition to making the rim, anodizing it, cnc machining the walls, drilling and eyeletting the spoke holes and drilling the round portion of the holes. Do the maths. Luckily they are not made in the UK or they would be more like £200 each. Almost certainly the longest production process of any rim in existence and remarkably inexpensive in my opinion. Lets just say that if certain other laser logo's were on them, the price would shoot up.
  5. I'm glad to see that Boon recognizes the fact that we sell bikes all over the world. However, the business couldn't get much more family than this. Check the link to see our full staff complement. http://www.onza.com/v2/about2.html Also on a personal note, I would like to see constructive criticism and debate, but don't let us get too personal. Trials bike products are not Play Stations and do not generate Play Station profits, so Joe is doing a good job in trying to regenerate our Website on the extremely tight budget which I have given him for it. So by all means advise and suggest but can we do it without the abrasiveness and hostility, which so often seems to characterize debates on this forum.
  6. Just heard , hes also qualified for the 26" final tomorrow. Andrei Burton was second placed Brit at 10th.
  7. This is the Pro which is dual cable disk. The next model up is the Blade which has front disc and rear HS33 and the comp has dual HS33. The T-Mag will still have front Louise and rear HS33.
  8. Check the Conspiracy Midnight. Item No. 350069255862 on ebay. Dirt jumper ones and Magura Louise for £499.
  9. Weight is without bash. Can't see the point of weighing with bash as some people don't use them and there are variations between bash plate weights, usually about 200 grams or less. Makes life more difficult when making direct comparisons of frame weights. I suspect that weights are quoted that way because some frames are supplied with bash fitted so its easier to weigh it that way rather than take it off. Pro series 20" frames are ordered, should be here in August. Two 26" in the pipeline.
  10. The Pro, Blade, Comp frame weighs in at less than 1.60 kilos.
  11. We are building the prototype now just to snag the rear brake system. If we can get a picture up we will probably next week. Its white although the final production one won't be. I just noticed a certain party currently dossing around Fort William doesn't know how to spell "friendly" on our banner. My apologies and he gets his arse kicked next week.
  12. The next model up is the Bird which gets 19" rear wheel and front cable disc. The Pro gets U6 version of the frame , much lighter, Magura mounts but double cable discs, CNC rear dropouts with patented tensioners. Same frame on the Blade but rear HS33 and the Comp gets HS33 all round, drilled rims etc.
  13. This is the lowest model in the new range. We would love to fit front Tensile freewheel and a 20 X 2.5 rear wheel and magura mounts with v daptors but then the starting price would be closer to £400. We have radically re designed the whole 20 " range going back to Taiwan from China for the frames and against the backdrop of soaring prices we have still managed to produce a much more radical and cool looking opening model with good geometry for less than £300. We felt that the Trials market had matured enough for this to sell in place of the T-Vee and T-Bird, which , lets be fair, have sold in their thousands. Those models were aimed at parents who in the vast majority of cases made the model selection. That frame was seven years old this year and the feedback received was that entry level bikes could now sell without a seat. So this is the result and we've also made the geometry right up to the minute. We know that this bike will not sell to most readers of the forum, but we wanted to produce bikes that most members would feel comfortable riding. The whole range has something for every level right up to the Pro Series frame only models and it is obviously our aim to get them into bike shops across the country so that you do not have to rely on mail ordering them. That is the key to making trials accessible to everyone.
  14. We have the hanger, choice of headset and bottom bracket in stock. E-mail joe@onza.com to arrange.
  15. We had a thread on website updates which got a bit lost and went off in different directions because people misunderstood the initial request. So lets start again on Trials Chat but a little more specific in what we are asking.. Facts.. 1. Onza.com as a website is old and tired. We know that. It is however still up and running. 2. We are actively building a new site in conjunction with our web designers. It is not live yet and won't be for ( ? ) weeks. We were just looking for a bit of input from TF readers as to what they would like to see in such a website. We picked up some good ideas already, example, the team riders Blog which Onzaboymark suggested. Can anyone suggest any other feature which encourages them to log on to particular sites. This is all the thread was looking for, so lets not get bogged down in whether a name is good, bad or indifferent. The request is specific to Onza.com as a worldwide product promotional site which neither quotes prices nor sells directly to the public .
  16. What I am saying is the actual name is not that important. Supercycles is not available as a .com as its's already taken and is a US Motorcycle shop. When that site was off air for a long time, several years ago,we had about 20 e-mails a week asking us to get back up on line.We therefore wanted a name that we had the .com, .co.uk and most other variations of the name which could all point to the same site. We spent several days juggling names and combinations of names only to find that 95% of them were registered and held by companies based in the Dominican Republic Etc. and usually hosted Ad farms. I used to hear these sort of comments about Wiggle in 2000 when it was just starting. Dare I say I even heard similar comments about Tartybikes name a few years ago when they first started. An Internet based selling website is as good as its reputation and that doesn't come from its name but from its range of products, its value for money and for its sales and service. Get those right and the name will become second nature.
  17. Just a few responses to the criticisms. 1 Have you tried registering a dot com domain name recently? 2. We don't care if you love it or hate it as long as you remember it. 3. So its childish, unlike big and manly wiggle.co.uk or snappy and easy to remember chainreactioncycles.com . 4. Onza.com is a worldwide product site and positively cannot direct sell or even list prices of its products. It is a product reference site for all our worldwide distributors.
  18. Available now. With regards to the alloy freehub body, I have currently applied for a patent on a new single speed converter which should alleviate any problems with using alloy freehub bodies. Details available in a couple of weeks once I get allocated a patent number.
  19. I am glad Sott wrote his reply because I was going to have to say something. All the Onza team are out to promote our product and we are very happy for them to do it. They are a TEAM and we hope will work together more and more. We have chosen all our riders this year on that basis and there is a great spirit amongst them. If we strengthen the team further it will have to be on that continuing basis. Obviously Andre is drawing the top praise at the moment because of his outstanding performances but it has to be seen in the context of a team effort. I would just like to say well done to all the guys at the weekend for making such a great effort.
  20. My congratulations to all the Onza team who rode really well and gave a great boost to us. Special congrats to Andrei, highest place Brit at 9th, only a whisker off reaching the final. Well done all of you.
  21. That effect could easily be duplicated with a cnc machine. Just got to to get the right profile of the cutter and the indexing right.
  22. As you will all probably realise, we made those Vee daptors well over eighteen months ago specifically for the T-Pro to fit Vee brakes. It was our take on a design which we know has been around for yonks. It was never intended to produce them as an Onza part precisely because of all the finger pointing and copying accusations which we knew would follow. Unfortunately the fact is that our distributors are now asking for these parts as service replacements and other customers have also pointed out that they are lighter and cheaper than some alternatives. We will therefore be releasing them as an Onza spare.
  23. My last word on disc mounts on the 20" models. The patented rear dropout is currently being re designed by us to incorporate a disc mount. It is not yet ready as there are a lot of parameters. The frames were therefore made with normal dropouts. The production models will have disc mount. Okay.
  24. 1. Yes, it takes that bash plate although we are working on a new design to fit that hole pattern as well. 2. You don't need tugs or snails, they have the Onza patented single rear bolt dropout. 3. We have moved to conventional headsets purely by the weight aspect. That is also the reason for the super slim anti flare stainless steel top and bottom rings. 4. The dropped stay is still very much in the frame. (no pun intended) We now have such a great bunch of guys riding for us and, there is a lot of brainstorming and ideas coming through so there are great plans for the future. Major distributors in the UK and now the USA will give us more muscle to push things through. We also have many smaller more specialist distributors throughout the world and there has been a big resurgence of interest in our products this year. So the drop stay personally I think will make it to production at some stage but don't ask me on what bike.
  25. Not possible at this stage to answer Adams question on prices. He must probably know that spiralling costs of materials over there are making everybody nervous so we have not finalised our prices. Trying to get firm prices out of a supplier proved to be like blood out of a stone. We have just ordered almost 3000 frames, plus 1800 cromo forks and 600 alloy forks from our main supplier so we are hoping that will give him a little more muscle when negotiating costs of material. So we will have to wait a week or two. However one thing is certain, they will be great value for money.
