Well, it sure is something to think about. Not that it will ever happen though. I can only think about one benefit, it's easier to tap and gap a 26" than a 20" so a 29" would probably be easier to tap and gap than a stock. And what would it be called? A road trials bike?

Yeah and that's why I think these particular rules shouldn't change. Everything else has evolved but lets keep one part of the bike which can tell a bit of the biketrials history. It's a stock bike, it's how the rules have been since the very beginning so why change them. Meh, I'm a conservative when it comes to this sport. If I were to ride proper UCI/BIU comps, I wouldn't complain about this rule. As long as it applies to everybody, it's fair. Also, for the amount of money people spend on comps, I doubt getting a spare comp-legal rear wheel, sis shifter and mech is a big expense. Some things just shouldn't change

18/17 the heaviest i rode was 22/18 (under 18/15) and it wasn't that bad. good for gaps

Well, if your frame is still in one piece after a few months of hard riding, you'll have proven me wrong. There sure is a market for these adaptors and lots of people would buy them off you if you started producing them.

I've come across some Surly cogs, the problem is that they have very deep teeth. You need a beefy chain which is higher for it to work properly. Get the wider KMC chain or a KHE. Wrap the chain around the cog and see if you can "squeeze" it into the teeth so it's hard to pull out of the cog. If so, you need a wider (and higher) chain. Hope you get what I mean.

Good topic. I've done 48 before but anything over 40 is just pure luck for me so I can't say I know how to tap properly, got my technique all wrong... Do you big tappers do an explosive pedalkick as the front wheel hits the wall or do you manual into it? When you hit hard, do you keep your hands as stiff as possible? These are the nuances you can't really spot on a video. And another thing, when you hit the front wheel, do you jump upwards or kind of lean over the bars to get the front wheel over the obstacle? I'd usually just complain at the bb rise but Matt Awkward and Damon seem to be tapping really high so it is possible...

Experience, had a few mechanical brakes. And as Mr. Long Name pointed out, it's to do with not flexing the rotor.

Really nice bike and a neat looking adaptor. Just a personal feeling about this. I would NEVER do something like that, it's certain death for the frame. Red fields are where your frame will crack if you ride your bike regularly and properly. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole dropout just tore off. edit: Not to make another post, I'll put it in here. This would solve the problem and still look as neat as your current design: You'd have to drill the frame through though, I'm doubt it would make it much weaker but that's just a guess.
