lockon grips are good. especially in the wet, although they can score your bars. and if your really hardcore you can snap them i'm running tarty raffle grips. i like them although there shit to fit on. white spirit helps

nah backings are thermosetting, they won't die unless you really roast em. i put my pads in the oven and the pad was forced out my the glue melting haha.

i went from mod to stock this time last year, improved my confidence loads, my riding didn't actually drop in standard. but 6months of inconsistant riding has turned me shit you'll find stocks are more forgiving on ups + rails [larger "sweet spot" to land on] although you loose that whippy-flicky feeling, stocks are just more stable. do it but expect to suck at first

what hub/freewheel you running? are the internals clean? you usually have to have quite alot of chain wrap on the rear sprocket with pro2s for singlespeed

i had the 74kingz ring, can't find a picture, looked shit hot though although it's really thick so you might find some problems with freewheel/bottombracket clearance.

avid mechanicals are the easiest to service+tinker with, but tend to have power over proportionality + feathering, way cheaper to (i suppose if you pick a small rotor you'd be able to feather it, but it wouldn't compare to a hydro) hopes are also prety awesome but cost a bomb, avid ***...

you need to consider the steriotypes of kids your looking at. but at a guess a good chunk of kids who smoke pot have stoner parents/ones that don't give a shit, so getting caughts not a problem, and for everyone else, there gunna hide what there doing anyway, the price is the biggest put off, and at a crack when it goes up a grade, so will the price, thats the only obvious affect i imagine making a difference.
