  1. one thing i remember was reminding wayne of how much he liked shrimp for 5 days solid. to me, those jokes were like wine and just got better with age. think wayne liked them too. although, it perhaps wasnt as funny as watching duncan having to sit through weeks of abuse from wayne and the savages. that poor lad has been scared for life. but, think the best bit about the worlds it is the fact that im still on tour! after itadori me and missus went to kyoto. if you ever go to the trial in japan, take a few days to go somewhere else. if you think itadori was nice, just wait til you explore elsewhere. kyoto was on another level. in australia now. spent today surfing on bondi beach, sydney. is it raining in the UK?! balls to hook woods, think ill stay here and see if i can make it into aus elite.
  2. Can anyone help me get my bike back from Japan this year? Basically, after Japan this year Ill be going travelling around Oz and New Zealand rather than coming home and so I dont really fancy taking my bike around with me! Does anyone who's going think they might be able to help me out? i know the baggage allowance for flights out there is quite huge, so you probably wouldnt exceed your allowance with the extra bag, and even if you do I can pay for it. Or on some airlines they charge an extra £10 or something for sports equipment, so it shouldnt be too difficult. If you're going and not morally opposed to having an extra bag on the way home please let me know. My folks can sort out the bike pick up back in the UK. Thanks
  3. I am the first to object when some one kicks, screams and swears in front of children and there is certainly a line that can be crossed when reacting badly to getting a 5 or something, but I think it's foolish to suggest all foul language should be or can be stamped out from trials. I think many people don't realise how important doing well is to some people. Yes, for many just riding their bikes is enough, but there are those who are naturally more competitive and doing well is how they enjoy themselves in their trials. I don't really think you can criticise different peoples' approaches to their riding. I think I'm moderately this way inclined, as when I mess up I get a little angry because I just feel that I have let myself down on something that I know I can do. Sometimes it's just an involuntary reaction to shout at yourself, so why should some one be punished for this? Can we really ask people to not be so competitive or psyched up when they're riding in a competition? Anyway, there is scientific evidence (i guarantee) to support the idea that a little swearing after a frustating incident can actually help alleviate aggression, which would otherwise come be expressed in other forms. There is however a line that can be crossed after such an immediate reaction. Abusing observers, other riders etc is not acceptable and if I'm right it can be punished under the current regulations. However, what should the punishment be for swearing? How would this be policed? Can the clerk of the course just penalise those who they find swearing, leaving those who are not spotted by them to get away it? There are too many loop holes and that type of irregularity could decide trials and championships. This doesn't need to be regulated - most people react very normally when they screw up in a trial and I can't think of anyone who has never reacted with a little anger at doing so. If sport became passionless, it would be pointless
  4. BUMP! Make sure you're all there tomorrow!!! Should be good - great venue and the weather's going to be lully
  5. tried it again: pete needs our prayers pete needs to come out and admit what he did and say he's sorry. ...
  6. Here's one for you: Type Your first name followed by needs into Google and see what it brings up! eg. peter needs gave me peter needs to save dumbledore Post your findings on here. Thought it might be fun!
  7. Thanks Ali C for saying something nice about the trophies! But sorry if I ballsed up probably the least important thing about the trial, but when I went to pick them I thought they were something different, tasteful and perhaps could be used as paper weight etc. although they came back smaller than I had expected. Yes, the sections worked out a little easy in the dry, but thats because it was raining during the week and rain was likely for Sunday - I didnt want to make the trial unridable in such conditions. If you have ridden in the rain there before you will know Kelly Farm is horrific in the wet. It's difficult trying to balance the wide range of ability on each route and trying to make the trial enjoyable for all, no matter what the weather. Another thing, is that when you're setting out a course you don't always see all of the lines in a section, because some times you only see the way you want something to be ridden, rather than what can be done and on sunday the sneaky buggers always found ways of beating the sections!! eg number 6 on the red route when everyone went around the side of the rock at the top Glad most of you enjoyed it (Really think we should NEVER discuss the gears thing again - it goes nowhere. The crux of the matter is that the rules will have to be amended after this season)
  8. I had one - it lasted a trial and about an hours practice and then it cracked so I wouldnt buy another, although it was very good and grippy, especially on logs. However, many of the top boys at the World rounds when I last went stopped using them after about a week because they were decreasing their side hops (to bash guard) by a couple of centimetres because of how much bigger the eagle claw guards were than the normal ones. If youve got money to burn go for it, but you should probably spend the money on a different upgrade - like the new monty tyres
  9. QUOTE(deanie-b @ Feb 6 2006, 01:16 PM) ←I think it goes something like..... kick ridiculous egg shaped ball, follow ridiculous egg shaped ball, when a team member from the opposition get to the ridiculous egg shaped ball before you, rip their legs from under them and yell the magic, Stay down bitch!!! I think thats how they do it that is exactly how it works. the best thing is the agro and the 'blackitude'. i also think its quite funny how the 23 stone blokes in the front line are regarded as athletes. only in america...
  10. Tonights the night lads of the most important sporting event of the year - the Superbowl!!! OK, Trials is my first love, but I love NFL! It's sports entertainment at its best (the gangsta attitude of these guys is hilarious) and the superbowl is "the greatest show on earth" My predictions: Steelers to win by 13 Hines Ward to get 1st touchdown Shaun Alexander to get 2 touchdowns Jerome Bettis to get 2 touchdowns Ben Roethlisberger to get MVP Willie Parker to fumble twice Shaun Alexander to get knocked out/suffer dislocated shoulder Ive put a tonne on each of these..... Starts at 11.20, ends at 3.30am. Well worth it
  11. flatliners - tequila, vodka and tabasco sauce in a shot. you have to experience these at least once in you life dont worry it has no sugar
  12. you have to remember that using your pedals and bash guard is part of the game in BIU. using these enables you to get over trickier obstacles. each works out relatively the same to ride, as the sections are "easier" in UCI, but work out just as hard because of the different rules. sure, riding a BIU section UCI style is harder than riding a UCI section under BIU rules, but thats because the sections are set out according to the different rules and so vary accordingly.
  13. i thought a hulk was half a lager and a WKD blue? anyway, if you stick a double vodka in there too, you make a shrek! personally, you cant beat "diesel" or "sams dry" from the cider bar in newton abbot, devon - the place is sick - girls are only allowed halfs and theyre suspicious if youre not local! in addition, next time youre out, ask for a "rocky mountain bear f**k" - its half a whisky, half a tequila and half a sambuca.....well nice.....
  14. 18 front with 12 rear with those cranks will be perfect. people dont really bother adjusting their gear ratio according to crank length, its just kept at 1.5:1 (18:12). thinking about it, i might start running a 24 on the front with a 9 on the back....
  15. Get a profile if you can - just cos they're lush! Plus I think they have a life-time guarantee (correct me if Im wrong) which you wouldn't get with a ordinary rear-hub/white industries freewheel combo. Ideally get a 12T on the back, but I dare you to go for 9......
  16. i think we need to consider when reading certain replies on topics such as this that perhaps somebody is having a joke/winding up their friends.... obviously, i would run at matt tupman with a baseball bat if i saw him in the street, but it would only be to give him a hug, but that i simply had a bat in my hands from playing rounders just before. (although i probably would steal his brake blocks because his are probably better than mine) please be aware that people may start threads/add replies to stir things purely because people get so wound up on here. its too easy, and fun to watch people fight sometimes because sometimes their arguments and bitchiness are so ridiculous. the TF isnt really some where to get wound up upon - just somewhere to chat about trials. (i expect this has been said a billion times before but im new here)
  17. all im going to say now matt is watch out.... i dont want your bike to one day have its brake blocks removed, accidentally, without you knowing..... or you to find a horses head in your bed.....
  18. some times your paths cross and you just cant help running into people...... any way, it wouldn't even matter if i did like matt, id still want to run at him
  19. me and you cant be friends matt because i hate you. next time i see you at a trial/ride/in the street im going to run at you. what a stupid thread
  20. Don't worry lads full sponsorship probably isnt what its cracked up to be. Most people just get 40% off when they buy stuff from their local shop. The best Ive ever got was a free bottom bracket, which was crap and I never used it! With trials associated companies you can only really hope for good discount, not money. You see, theres no real money to be made from trials, as its just not a big enough sport with not enough people throwing loads of money at it, and so theres not really much that people can afford to give out. However, with something like motocross there are thousands more people involved, all pouring thousands and thousands per year into it. Because there are so many more people all willing to buy anything, along comes big name endorsements and TV coverage - all related to money once again. The trials population and the sports financial turn over would probably have to grow 10, maybe even 100 times before this enters the arena. The only way of making big bucks in trials is to gain sponsorship from big businesses eg Red bull, animal - who are big because they are mainstream and did not start off as trials orientated, yet will get involved in extreme sports because this assocaition helps them sell products to people who want others to think that they are extreme and daring. Getting these deals that only happens if you have a big enough name, fit their image and can adequately expose their products. Sorry, but thats the system we live in. Therefore, you'd better get practising!....or work towards a profession that is more guaranteed.
  21. How about a monty x-lite - it would be shorter than the XTP so maybe more manoeuvrable for a lad like you - I had one when I was 12 and it was bootiful. As said earlier, don't worry about an XTP breaking at your age unless your'e a psycho...or really crap...
  22. EDIT: Consider your wrists slapped (Hope i haven't contravened the forum rules here! Just give me a slap on the wrist if I have!) Cheers
  23. Just point down and say, "What are you talking about, it's right there, can't you see it?!" However, be careful who you use this on! A friend once said that to an OAP; somethings can be funny at first but when you realise that you've seriously confused some one and that they are beginning to doubt their eye sight and sanity you start to feel bad!
