BTR_Vince
I want to buy some rim tape for my Onza Blade which I'm getting soon, but have no idea which on will fit. Does this one fit the Blade rims? - http://www.tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?pr...;category_id=38Do rim tapes last quite long? What are your experiences with them? Thanks
Dale-Hill
Save your self some cash and use sellotape, parcel tap, even electrical tape
Muel
Sellotape or parcel tape is lightest and bestest.
ginger allen echo
Sellotape or parcel tape is lightest and bestest. But electrical tape comes in different colours and looks nicer.

BTR_Vince
Yeah, I want blue but haven't found that, so I'll settle for red or green, but I guess it's a bad idea then... If I got electrical tape, or any kind of tape, how would you go about putting it on? Edited August 18, 2009 by BTR_Vince
Muel
You need advice on using tape? Put a layer on with the sticky side facing up, then put another on with the sticky side facing down.

Muel
for the valve, I find using a big drill bit works best to cut a round holes out of it. Has to be fairly new and sharp though, and don't actually drill through the rim, just use it to cut a hole in the rim tape.

BTR_Vince
Stop laughing please But if you look at the rim of the Onza Balde, it has those circles between those long metal things which connect it to the middle part of the wheel. (Don't know the technical names) how do you get around all that.Sorry if these are stupid questions!!!
Ross McArthur
Big metal things...Spokes. Middle of the wheel....Hub. You dont have to go round the holes, you have to cover them up so you're inner tube does'nt pop out. Make sure the Sticky tape doesnt face out the holes or mud and dust will stick to it and make it look rubbish. Also, make sure the sticky side doesnt touch you're inner tube or it will cause all sorts of problems...You're bike may vanish into a third dimention or something. Muel
Yeh, the circles are called "holes", and the long metal things are "spokes".They come with rim tape to cover up the holes, so the inner tube doesn't burst out of them. It's to make the rims lighter.
forteh
You mean the rim drillings? Just tape over them, thats what rimtape does, it stops the inner tube rubbing and puncturing on the spoke holes (and drilled holes in the case of trials rims). Just wrap the electrical tape around the rim sticky side up (use your thumb to hold the 1st end of it until you can wrap another layer ontop of it), then once you have completely wrapped the rim (covered up all the holes) then simply wrap it again with sticky side down. The reason for doing sticky side up 1st is to prevent dust and crap sticking to the glue on the tape through the drilled holes, again its only applicable on drilled trials rims edit: man Im too slow these days, must be getting old Edited August 18, 2009 by forteh

Muel
Because the drill bits are just as eay to get to in my garage, and it cuts a round hole out, instead of a shredded mess.

Sam Nichols
Let the air out of your tube.Remove the tyre/tube. Remove the rim tape that is already wrapped around the rim, if the rim is drilled poke your finger through one of the holes to help you grab hold of the rim tape. If not use a screwdriver to get it out.If using electrical tape/gaffa tape/masking tape etc. Put one layer of the tape sticky side UP around the entire rim so it meets and sticks back on itself.Next put 2/3 layers of the tape with the sticky side DOWN around the entire rim so that it sticks to the original layer of tape.Use a screwdriver or scissors (get your parents to do this if you're a youngun) to poke a hole through the tape where the valve hole is.Put the tyre/tube back on.
