hi i was riding in stockton and yarm with a mate the other day and got a bit fed up with my old freewheel skipping so i tried sorting it out at home but its proper stuck on and i'v had several atempts with a hammer to get it off the crank arm. i'v used all the proper tools up to one point where i lost my temper. i was just wondering if any one had any sugestions of how to get this litle bugger off. i'm trying to avoid spending money on a new crankset cos im abit of a tight arse with money. thanks very much ion advance :)

i had the same problem with my front freewheel, and if you put your freewheel in a big vice, then whack the crank arm round with a big hammer, it should come off then.

thanks for the replies, lol iv already tried with a big hammer but the hammer lost and is now sat in a bin, owel i'll try the bike shop. thanks guys (Y)

If you want to 'sort your freewheel out' you don't need to take it off the crank arm. you can get into the inside of it while it's still on the crank. Taking it off will just be pointless.

no he needs a new freewheel trust me. it died good and proper. it doesnt engage one bit. also buy thm cranks that i txt you about!!!

In that case he needs a proper freewheel tool, big long spanner, and a vice. And a wooden mallet.

It's very difficult to do if you haven't got those things.

To get it off easier, use the correct tool in a vice but then add a metal bar/pole around the tool arm, so the tool is inside the bar but you can move the tool by moving the bar, this helps because its adding more leverage giving more force.

My freewheel seemed impossible to get off,but using this method came out quite easily, obviously bigger the pole easier it will be.

Hope its of any help.
