Hi, I was thinking of getting a new Pure myself to build up. I'm not sure which one to go for the 06 is only £180 on Tarty or I could go for the 07 one for an extra £50. If I went for the 07 one then I'm not sure weather to go for the short or long. (I'm not particularly tall) I guess it's probably better to pay more and get the 07 if it's better than the 06? My bikes do get a beating but I've never broken a frame so it'd probably last me a while. I currently ride an 04 or 05 pure I think which has done me well but I feel like a change. Cheers, John.

Peterborough Ride Saturday The 22nd

Hi, I'm quite tempted to come along if my bikes still working! Would just be me from Leicester (unless any of the others are comming). I think I've ridden with Matt from Peterborough ages ago (probably a couple of years back) he was on an Ashton and I was on a blue T-Rex at the time. Cheers, John. -
Hi, My trusty 205 had just failed it's MOT (would cost at least £700 to repair - not really worth it) and so I'm looking for a replacement. I've been thinking of a small van for some time as I often travel with bikes and diving equipment. I'm thinking of one of those vans thats not much bigger than a car or just slightly bigger (mini van?). I still want somthing that I can drive to work and park in a normal car parking space without too much trouble. It would be nice if there was enough space to fit a camping bed in the back. I'm looking to spend about £2000. Can anyone recommend anything? Cheers, John

It's funny, after posting on this thread the other day saying I don't really get bothered by chavs, I got threatened by one on my way home from work. He was in a car speeding pretty fast, I guess I looked at the car as it went. He screached to a halt reversed up and got out. He said something like "what you staring at? I'll knok that smirk off your face". I didn't reply just shrugged and walked off. I was slightly scared really, I got the impression he had a few crossed wires. Nutcase.

Is there any evidence of this 'wrap around'? I would have thought that as space is 'nothing' you would just find nothing ie. empty space with no matter. But they say time expands with the universe so there would be no time there. But yeah how would anyone know?
-
So if it was possible to travel faster than the universe is expanding and you kept going - does anyone know what you would find? Perhaps as you are part of the universe it would expand with you so you couldn't actually get beyond the edge?
-
I was asked by a colleague, what would happen if you went to the edge of the universe? How do scientists know where the edge is and what is beyond?

Andyroo, That's an interesting point about the person with downs syndrome. I don't quite understand what you mean by 'Technically yes; morally no' I try to base my moral ideas on the technical. I think that's maybe a moral error in our society that a human is given status higher than any animal simply because they are human regardless of the intelligence or ability to feel pain of the human. ie. it seems that a brain dead human is given a higher status than a healthy chinpanzee - many people would be offended at the very idea of compareing a human to an animal. Thanks that's very nice of you! No hard feelings Rowly, Do you know of any studies done on the adept Yogis - I've heard that NASA did some experiments with them? Cheers

The farm animals you refer to have been selectivley bread for for along time and have become domesticated and so would struggle to survive in this country - that is true. These animals do have wild 'versions' (pig = wild boar etc.) and these are better suited for survival. I dissagree that wild animal are always starving & close to death etc. in some places where humans have not destroyed the environment wild animals appear to live in some kind of balance. Yes there lives are risky and dangerous but if I was a non-human animal I would rather be a wild animal in a natural place where there is a chance of survival than on a farm where slaughter is inevitable, even if life was easier untill that point. As a Vegan I find that slightly offensive. I don't know but in some cases pain may be easier to bear if you do understand it (for example going to the vet may be a lot more stressful for a dog than going to a doctor for a human because the human can understand what is going on and the dog can't so it has more fear) That's a very interesting post. When I said that it would be cruel to kill the bull, I was partly refering to the monks who would be caused pain by loosing an animal that they care about. I doubt that plants feel pain like humans (and similar animals) do because they do not have central nervous systems however I do not know. I'm fairly sure that mammals like pigs do experience pain in a similar way to humans although what their mental perception of this pain is, is impossible to tell - so to be on the safe side I wouldn't do anything to harm them. I have little choice but to eat plants. Agreed! I guess you mean 'does not remember' I think that farm animals often do experience pain when they are killed - at the very least there are lots of very dodgy things going on like live exports. When humans are using non-human animals to make money then I expect that corners are cut and animal welfare can be neglected - They animals can't exactly complain about it. I think that most humans feel that humans are superior to all other animals - a sort of culture of 'we are not animals' when infact humans are animals themselves. This is supported by some religions like Christianity where as religions like Hinduism and Buddism see humans and non-human animals as more similar. I hope this makes sense - a bit of a rant I know

I don't personally get bothered by chavs - other than the odd insult. But there does seem to be an epidemic of chavs these days. Kids who have no respect. 'Chav' is a fairly new word but they have been around for a long time, but it seems now there are more of them. I think you should only fight back if you feel threatened by them (ie. self defence), much better to walk/ride away and then report them.

I think in many cases animals do suffer when being killed for food, as for their lives being more wholesome and satisfying than they would be in the wild - I very much doubt it. I know which I'd prefer. My shoes are not made of leather - I try to avoid using amimal products. Do you come accross a lot of 'hot headed' vegetarians? - most seem like fairly humble compasionate people to me. Cheers, - But yeah this thread is getting boring now.

Are you capable of rational thought? Perhaps what I said sounded a bit harsh towards the farmers, but if you keep animals to sell for slaughter you can't really claim to care about them as much as a Hindu monk would. So you don't have the heart to kill one yourself but you would sell them to someone who does? - Isn't that the same thing really? I hope that last comment wasn't aimed at me but I suspect it was. I do understand a little about farming and I'm not a townie. That's quite philosophical for trials forum

You would get pleasure out of causing pain to others? are you sick? There's no need to insult me. If you dissagree with my opinion why not just expain why? I don't think it's political correctness - 30 police officers went in and took the bull. I don't think they were right to kill the farmer's animals either - two wrongs don't make a right. They did ask for a second test to be done as these tests are not 100% accurate but that was refused. They did agree to keep the Bull in isolation and treat it with antibiotics but tha was not allowed. Anyway Shambo was taken and killed yesterday evening - RIP Shambo.
-
I think the difference is that the farmers would kill their animals anyway their only concern is loss of profit - they don't actually care about the lives of their animals. The owner's of this bull do seem to care for him not just for profit. RicH_87 - I'm sure the Hindu monks do care about the well being of others. From what you say I rather think it is you who don't care about others. If the Bull did bite someone then they would not get TB. Cheers,
-
I know it's quite funny to see a bull with a necklace of flowers, in a shrine. But it's all a matter of perspective.
-
I'm sure most people have heard about the sacred bull in the temple in Wales. He has been tested positive for TB (doesn't actually mean he has TB) and authorities are planning to kill him today. I think it would be cruel and unnecessary for them to do this, they could simple put Shambo in isolation and treat him with antibiotics (as they would for a human). Does anyone else have any thoughts or info about this? Cheers, John.

Hi, I've had an ear infection of some kind over the last couple of weeks following lots of swimming (in various pools and the sea). It was quite painful for a while so I went to the doctor and was perscribed some otomize ear spray. After a week of using that all pain has gone and I can hear external sounds fine again. So I have stopped using the spray. The only problem that remains is that the sound of my own voice is a little odd (to me it sounds like I have a cold, to other people I sound normal). Does anyone have any experience of anything like this? Cheers, John.

It would be really great if there was a 'walk in' bike shop that did stock loads of trials parts, bmx and freeride, and had it's own skate park, trials park and freeride area. Where you could get a custom bike built up and give a try in the shop, then for example try a diffrerent stem and try it again. Or they could have shop builds that people could have a go on. Of course this is probably unrealistic as it would cost way too much to set up and run (although perhaps there would be more money in the freeride/DH stuff). Still it's a nice idea though - I'm lucky if I can walk into a shop and get a bolt of the correct size.

I got told off for riding on some bollards once - Nasty grey concrete that's just there to stop cars. I just accuse the people who tell you not to ride of morale hypocrisy as they usually are guilty of doing something much worse themselves.

Can You Sell Dogs On Ebay As They Getting On My Nerves!
Rebelistic replied to Onza-Trials's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
You should have thought about that before you got the dogs - Dogs are a big responsibility. If you were not prepared to take care of them for life then you shouldn't have got them in the first place. If you do sell the dogs or give them away, please make sure they go to someone who will look after them well. I really don't think ebay is a good idea. -
I'm trying to get myself a suunto d3 as cheap as possible - found a place that sells them for £150 ish. It's a freediving watch that records depth, time temperature etc. I reckon that's pritty high end in terms of performance. Maybe not what you're after though.

My Maxxis is the opposite - I can't get the dam thing off without using knives (tyre levers just bend or are too fat to force between the rim and tyre).

Hi guys. Basically I'm trying to fit a fox float shock to my Scott Nitrous and the bushes that I have from my old shock don't fit. Chainreaction cycles don't seem to have the right sizes. The total distance across the bushes (ie the size of gap in the frame) is 40mm for one and 22mm for the other. The hole diameter is 8mm for one and 6mm for the other. The fox float shock is 12mm wide at the fittings and the fittings have a hole diameter of 12mm (looks just over 12mm to me). Any help would be appreciated(sp?). Cheers, John
