I agree 'normal' size seats look better to me, as long as it's not too heavy.
-
I have long hair and It's no problem I just tie it back I guess short hair keeps your head cooler though, but then this isn't the hottest climate (UK) .

Fair enough I suppose, you do seem to get a lot of repeated topics in here, ie. Someone asking the same question someone asked two days ago. If it's a way of protecting people from scams then thats good. It's just a shame that a lot of genuine people have to wait so long. Cheers Thanks Tomturd - Just noticed

I don't know if I'm allowed to ask, but anyway whats the point of all this validation stuff? Most forums I've been on just let you join and thats it, but TF seems different. I don't mean to criticise but it all seems to be a bit tedious. Why not just let people join? Cheers

26" because thats what I ride. But there's been at least two topics like this, this week - It would be better to look at those rather than make a new topic.
-
I'm right footed but I ride left foot foward and I prefer to sidehop to the left . I don't wank to break my mech. I don't think it makes much difference - Like most things it's just what works best.
-
Bad luck about your shoulder - Hope you get well soon. Let me know when your next down chicksands (johnstuff@hotmail.co.uk) Thanks for all the advice guys . I might try under warranty but if it's a bit of a crap shock then I may be better off just getting something decent. I do land hard sometimes and the shock has too be up to it

There's a lot of mod riders who really don't seem to like stocks. I think it must depend a lot on your style of riding. I think perhaps a mod is better for pure trials (natural) with mostly hopping and no runups, but I prefer more flowing riding mixed with trials moves. I think stocks are great, I even prefer the more ordinary looking ones (eg Leeson). I also find it strange that 24" bikes are supposed to be more Streety than stocks even though I would think they would be more like a cross between mod and stock, ie. better for natural than a stock? At the end of the day I think it's better to just enjoy riding rather than worry about what size wheels you have.
-
Good for you . I'm glad you wern't put off going for stock. Hope you get on well with it .
-
Cheers for the help, I might checkout supercycles as I'll have to get some more mech hangers soon anyway.
-
I think IMO a stock can be more versatile(sp). Eg for street, natural, skatepark, jumps etc. But then I've never tried a mod.

Hi, It's not trials related but I expect a lot of trials riders do freeride. Anyway, I went riding at chicksands the other day and afterwards I noticed my rear shock had leaked it's oil . Its an X-fusion spring shock (I think) on a Scott Nitrous, only about 7-8 months old. The shock came with the bike. Do you think its worth trying to get it repaired under warranty? Is it cheap/easy to just get my LBS to replace the oil seal? If you read the small print just doing a small drop invalidates the warranty . Perhaps it's a crap shock and I should upgrade to a better one . Cheers

I ride an older T-Rex (04/05 model I think). Seems quite strong to me (perhaps a bit heavy) - I've crashed it loads and it seems fine. I've had it for nearly two years now and it's my first trials bike so it's had some abuse
-
If I'm riding street in th evening then usually some tipsy person will watch and seem quite impressed (not that I'm very good ). I usually chat to them a little and they seem ok, not threaterning just a bit drunk. Some middle aged lady called us a bunch of w**kers so we told her there was no need to swear. But usually no one seems to mind, often parents walking with kids stop and seem quite impressed.
-
Oh, I see. I was thinking of drilled sidewalls. Cheers
-
Maybe I'm wrong, but if you have drilled rims don't you have to use disc brakes? IMO on your first bike I would not go for disc brakes due to the chances of bending the rotors - rim brakes are more out of the way. I would love to have a front disc on my bike but I know I would break the rotor

Just Got Into A Little Brawl With Some Bmx'ers
Rebelistic replied to ashby-trials's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
As long as you don't damage other peoples stuff I think most riders of different types can get on fine. I come across BMXers, skaters, cross country riders etc. Most seem like nice people, If you are commited to your riding and enjoy riding then you don't want to fuss 'n fight with other riders. -
I always ride with either some cheap 'spiky shins' from a LBS or these days I aways use Dainesse (can't spell it) knee and shin pads since I hate hitting my knee on my stem . I actually find the knee and shins to be more comfortable than the shins alone.
-
Perhaps it's worse having a mini seat as people always say "you must have a small arse" . Maybe it's a compliment though Still I prefer the look of a bike with a seat even if it is not really used while riding.
-
Looks very nasty. Sorry to see/hear about that. It's this kind of thing that made me decide to never ride without shinpads. Hope you recover quickly
-
Me too, I expect most riders have dented/scared shins. Now I always wears shinpads that have saved me many more dents . IMO shorts and bare shins are a bad combination. Anyway I use VPs from onza, They get pritty distorted from contact with rocks but still work fine. DMR V8s are also very good, they are stronger than VPs but the pins can get broken off quite easily.

Is Tar Good For Using On Your Wheels?
Rebelistic replied to g4ngst4_s4m's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
I've only tried tar once but IMO it does give a stronger grip at the expense of modulation. If I was going to use it I would probably only use it on the rear wheel, as the rear wheel is required to lock reliably and not slip. If you want to do stoppies then I imagine tar on the front wheel would make it harder due to the wheel locking. Likewise if you have tar on the rear I imagine manuals would be harder to do as modulating the break would be harder. Like I say I've only tried tar once so I could be wrong. -
Cheers for the help guys I've got a nokian tube now and I'll try a slightly higher pressure as I mainly ride street. I'll see how it goes. I always try to ride smoother but can't help the odd heavy landing
-
I've tried to search for a thread on this but not found one, anyway I often get pinch flats - Any advice on how to prevent them would be helpful or a link to a thread. I've heard putting talcome (can't spell it) powder on your innertube can help, has anyone tried this? Cheers

I think that the type of bike you want will depend more on the style of riding you intend to do than your height. I ride a 26" T-Rex and I'm not very tall but I get on quite well with it, although I'm not very good.
