  1. * Grinding = roughening the surface with an angle grinder, allowing the pads better hold of the braking surface. * Sounds like a sticky piston. Look on the trials wiki or just hold the other piston while pumping the lever and occasionally spraying a light lube...eg wd40 * Best way to get the ideal tyre pressure is to start at 30 psi...and gradually let the tyre down until you find a pressure you get on with
  2. Right.....In my opinion: Disc if you want modulation and lots of grab Maggie with a grind/tar/uber soft pads if you want bite and power.... as a few people will say....its hard to get a lot of power with a maggie without sacrificing the modulation, hence why a lot of people run a disc up front Maggie with smooth rim and koolstops etc for loads of modulation <<( what i use ) Trials-leon, your MX2 brake is seriously good, way better than some hopes, hayes and diatechs i've used......
  3. Id go for around a 120mmm with a bit more rise...up to you really
  4. Q: "what do rear disks do to frames?" A: Err, in the shoddier designed frames a rear disk can break them? Q: "two, What is modulation?" A: Modulation is basically the slowing down effect of brakes, the more modulation in a brake, the less likely they are to lock up. e.g, An hs33 with Plazmatics, a really savage grind, and a really good booster would give you little or no modulation, the brake would feel very off and on...perfect for a trials rear brake... however an hs33 with, say, koolstops, an ok booster and no grind would mdulate and slow you down really well....and wouldn't be very grabby...perfect for manuals and stoppies
  5. Onza woodstock? uber light, great geo, no bb rise.....and ive got one for sale....
  6. Thats extremelty nice, dont like the uber high rise stem though....surly out of place on a +10 bb bike?
  7. So the first time we've got good weather in ages, nobodies going?
  8. Well..that sucks dude....hope you get better soon, sods law, what with you getting signed for onza and all.... i havent been able to ride for about 3 weeks due to weather and lack of spare time......
  9. I agree with muel...seems like the best way to go about it
  10. Ah, i see what you mean...ill try putting some spacers at the top, see if the clamp tightens anymore...thanks!
  11. Right...im going to try the shimano QR tonight... Im using 4 bolt maggie mounts, and the bolts are definitely long enough.....the maggies go sideways when i land....as in the wheel drags them forwards in their mounts... I think ive fixed both now...but ill call in on this topiuc if i get stuck...thanks for suggestions everyone!
  12. Shirt and jeans in summer and when im warmed up in winter hoodie and jeans when its really cold..... I used to try all the flowy stuff....stoppies manuals, spins etc, now trying to incorporate that into proper trials riding.... So id like to ride like a cross between Akkers and Damon really......but not too much hoppy on the spot sh*t though
  13. I think that may have to be my next bike, extremely nice ride mate.....
  14. Pretty damn nice...wheels look a bit too minimalist to me...
  15. Im using a mission hub, QR one....and i used to use a tensioner ( homemade) but now i use a locked out sora mech the plastic sleeves dont seem to make a difference....
  16. The trouble is alot of parts and frames in the trials world dont have copyrights....a lot of the fake frames come out of russia i find....
  17. Insanely huge, would have been good if he had actually landed it though!
  18. Right, 1. My left maggie cylinder on the rear keeps on slipping, even when the bolts are tightened right up, ive checked theplastic ring in there, cleaned the actual maggie ( so theres no loose paint, grease etc there) the mounts aren't threaded, the plastic bits make no difference and yes they are tight.....why?! 2. My rear wheel slips sideways in the droputs, almost dropping out of the frame occasionally, im sure its the qr skewer, but is there anything i can do about it short of replacing the skewer? is there anyway to convert QR to bolt through?
  19. Talked to tim today ( ravemonkey ) and he's now buying my frame...hopefully, an Onza woodstock....he doesnt want pure trials, some street as well so i thought it would be a good compromise. Ive managed to compile this list of components for his new ride: Try-all rim, on mono rear hub: £30 rear new maggie £30 Cheap sus forks £10 zokes zone ezr 80mm ( while he gets used to trials i think it would be best to use sus ) Onza armstrong c.set £10 Mavic? front wheel? Stem off old bike try-all bars :£5 woodstock frame:£55 (with headset with b.new maggie mounts, new onza seat and clamp ) Un52 bb: £5 old v brake old dh tyres: free any suggestions? stan
