  1. I have just located the missing segments of a video made in 1995 i think... Takumi Narita was a world championship rider from japan who was over 6 foot tall, and bloody good. Have a look at these to see what he was doing 13 years ago... Narita Beta techno video
  2. .. he won't like it, it's the wrong colour I know my older Pure frame was really nice although i do like the higher BB of my adamant a2 now. Not heard too much about the Simtra frames... what are they like as far as strength goes?
  3. I used twin disc for ages but have gone back to rim brake on the rear, first a v and now maggie. You mention about bending the rim... that is one of the only draw backs but the major problem that a disc can have is the fact that almost all trials moves are done with the back wheel... if you slip on the edge of a wall or drop it into a crevice the disc will be the first thing to get crunched... and as you weight will be on it or you may be dropping off something it won't be just an easy bend like the front gets. Must mention.... if you bend a rim it won't make the slightest difference to your disc. The only time you will have alignment problems for a disc is if you let the hub move or you bend the frame area that the caliper sits on. I also have to say that not many rear disc mounts aren't up to the job of big trials moves.... they tend to crack the frame sooner rather than later. Of course you will get good riders telling you how they have used them for years with no worries but remember those guys can land a lot softer than the rest of us (well, me anyway! ) Set up maggies well and give a light grind and you will be fine... i use oil in mine as water bleed felt crap when i tried one, and i also use a very small amount of tar. Good pads and good set up will see you right.
  4. It will come full circle again at some point... but it is sad for the youngsters that are good now who will miss out. I was lucky to start moto trials in the heyday, back in the 1970's. It was on TV when we only had 2 or 3 channels and was much better known and there was a lot of money and sponsorship around. I even ended up with several bikes from dealers cheap or almost free and although i won several club championships i was nothing special compared to the national riders. Now even guys in the top 10 in the UK championship have to pay at least trade price for their bikes.... just the top few get factory or importer deals.
  5. The Spanish riders all seem to have been biketrials riders long before throwing a leg over a motorcycle.. i believe at one point you couldn't ride a motorcycle trial in Spain until you were 12 years old.. so they all started on cycles. Fajardo and Freixa are also great fun to watch playing around on the back wheel. Would be nice for Lampkin to get the 100th win but unlikely now. I think we may be in for lean times as far as the UK riders go on the motorcycle front... many of the teams they rode for this year are either cutting back or leaving the world championship altogether, sponsors are not getting any return and in the present financial climate some of the riders will be without any support. I know of several who are into Enduro, which still has some money in it. Our best young rider at the moment is Alexz Wigg and he hasn't, at the time of writing this, got any deal at all for next year. In a year or two there is a lad from the south east who is going to be brilliant, Ben Morphet. But unless the sponsorship returns or he gets a full factory ride he may be the right guy but at the wrong time.
  6. me... get bikespace out with you... he is complaining on the trialscentral forum that he can't do it
  7. I fear he has missed his day... he won the indoor world championship once but the gap between him and Bou and Raga is widening at world level. Perhaps if he rode a proper bike instead of a 4 stroke
  8. Bloody hell... Barry Baines is still alive!! He rode with us for several years on the moto stuff and packed it in earlier this year to sort out his career, including going back to college. If you see him again say hi from Heath will you.. tell him to turn his bloody skype back on to give you an idea on his technique have a look at the Barry Baines collection... HERE
  9. As most of you know i ride motorcycle trials and have recently taken up the cycles again to keep fit and hopefully learn some technique... I have been trying to spread the word in the moto world that they could all do themselves a favour having a cycle to hop around on, now i have found a few great videos that show the cross over from the biketrials techniques onto motorcycles in slow motion so they can be appreciated more... To save time i will post a link to my page with both on.... Slowmo moto Trials hope you don't mind a bit of moto stuff!
  10. No... i don't think he does. Been something i have noticed over time, mr negative.
  11. I recognise this Rob... was the place you did that lovely faceplant last weekend some photos i took from the same area... HERE
  12. And i bet you will be trying to out bling this one .... Whats the geo on that frame?

  14. A video of us riding... now that would be a laugh it would consist of Kev smoking a fag every 2 minutes, me looking for ibuprofen and deep heat, Rob getting off to polish his bike anytime it got dirty and Tony nearly falling in the water ... and Ben, i have just realised that the camo shorts you are wearing are actually normal length jeans for the rest of us
  15. It wasn't really a ride as such... just the 3 of us decided to have a little play. Ben and his mate joined us on the off chance. Think they may have gone into town a bit further after though..
  16. Hiya... sorry mate, didn't catch your name at the time. Rob has complained that i haven't put any up of him!!! Bloody youngsters!! So here he is.... more from today of Rob and Tony. HERE
  17. With the exchange rate at the moment i wouldn't bother!!!
  18. Tony and myself, both in our 40's, and Rob went for a play in Bristol today. I had buggered my wrist up riding for 4 hours yesterday so was only doing a few hops and Tony was out on his new Zoo after some scum bag nicked his BT a few weeks ago. Robs phone went beep beep.. it was Ben Johnson, and he was on the way!! So we now feel totally inadequate Seriously mate, good to see you again and although i will never be doing this stuff it was great to watch and learn. More photos from him today here. ... just to prove we do ride off the flat bits at times this is me yesterday. sorry about the lack of helmet but my ears had got cold!! ... More from us yesterday, i know we are not great riders but we have a laugh!! Tony getting to grips with his new toy... now, where's the Ibuprofen!!! and when do we get back to the retirement home?
  19. Me, me, me..... No, only kidding i am too old and crap a rider to be able to test anything like that! If you send over to the UK i suggest it may be worth getting a trusted "middle man". Somewhere that the frame can always go back too before the next rider or at least someone who could go and try and find it if it fails to turn up somewhere.... a middle man could always take photos of the frame each time it arrives back to prove condition etc. before it being passed on.
  20. Was an agricultural engineer for 15 years... now a BT adsl and frames engineer. ... pays the bills and gives me the time to do what i really want... ride! Take it from me... don't bother with all the high sounding jobs, you get all the stress and the more you earn the more you spend and the more debt you get in. Keep it simple and enjoy life, you're a long time dead!
  21. Forgot to say... 1 will be 43 six days before Christmas. I need a Hope Pro 2 rear hub if anyone is stuck for gift ideas
  22. Hiya Rob... if they do an over 40's route i will join you There are a few events down near Bovey tracy, about an hour away for us, each year from memory. I will try and find the info and let you know. P.S. ... your not still in the garage polishing that bike are you?
