If you get the pro I would try another double disc bike first as some people hate disc and some people hate rim brakes.

When I go to do a pedal slide into a hop it makes a noise which is best described as a ping. I think its just the noise of the engagement. Then again my chain is quite slack. Anyone else get this?

Just try them, there's no right or wrong way it's just whatever works best. Also the way you had it would scratch the toptube and flap about in you way.
