  1. Word. Seeing people who can ride with that much elegance is truely inspiring. I could watch that for hours without getting bored. For me personally it proves that just going big doesn't equate to being a good rider.
  2. I've been using Spanish BBs on other bikes for a couple of years and think it's a real step forward for a Trials company to make that leap, well done Deng.

    Ot: Cycleball

Totally random information The sport with the ball is called Radball, It's a german sport invented in 1893, which is around two years after Bicycle Polo was invented in Ireland. The use of fixed wheel bikes with low gear ratios and no brakes remains as a throw back to the sports origins, freewheels had not been invented at that time (The earlist patent for a bicycle friction freewheel is dated as 1902). As another totally random fact, Radball is a UCI sanctioned sport. The "flatland" is called artistic cycling and predates Radball, the earliest unofficial world championships was held in 1888. It has commonly been included as a part time show during Radball events. The standard gear ratios on artistic bikes are 1:1 or lower. Apologies for that outburst, I'm going to go back to lurking and learning more about trials now.
  4. This thread has just been Godwin'd. Time to wrap it up and stop discussing things. Which is a shame as I've just done the first ever downturned, varial, opposite whip, backflip, bars. Unfrotunately as the rules state that no trick can ever be repeated, without being considered passé, I'm not able to repeat it to get it on camera.
  5. Does anyone want to buy my spleen as it's the only way I can see me getting more parts past the Miss this month? So far I've bought a whole bike. Upgrading it before the final parts have even been delivered may be a touch excessive.
  6. Just do me a favour and don't unpack the brakes until after you've built my wheel next Tuesday. The last thing I need is to buy more parts this month.
  7. For anyone who cares, Tarty have currently got 2011 Echo TR platform and caged pedals showing in their latest products. I guess that Echo shipment finally turned up.
  8. Assuming that you're aiming to use these in conjunction with Surly styres for a fatback style bike surely something along a Surly Rolling Daryl rim would be more sensible for your purposes. Though they are a shade over your desired weight at 740grams each. Additionally, tou're likely to encounter a few issues with tyre roll running a 3.7" tyre on a 47mm(ish) rim. I'd personally be aiming for a rim whcih is a minimum of 60mm wide. Though if you're aiming for such a light build I'd be very interested in seeing the rest of the specs.
  9. Currently on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Giant-Limited-Edition-Martyn-Ashton-Trials-Frame-Fork-/250716794774?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item3a5fe2af96 If I weren't already in the process of building a Mod, I'd be so tempted to buy this and build a period correct bike. All this talk of Dirt et al has got me wishing for the easy life that was being a teenager in the 90s.
  10. I'm afraid I also fall on the sick of Danny Macaskill side of things. In his own right he's a decent rider but he does seem to have become the public posterboy of all "extreme" cycling sports. I've been on forums where BMX threads have been derailed with multiple reposts of his videos. They're impressive to most people but if I'm looking for specific BMX related Videos I don't want to be confronted with Trials. Likewise, I wouldn't expect to go on the video threads on this forum and be confronted with Garrett Reynolds riding brakeless BMX. Sorry about that potential mini-rant. Back to suggesting riders for IAMTHEFERRYMAN: I'd suggest Chris Akrigg as another rider worth checking out. He used to be a Pace sponsered Trials Rider back in the days that they were still a UK company. I lusted after his signature frame (Pace RC250 T) so badly at the time. He's now a mongoose sponsored rider and seems to be making videos of brakeless trials and fixed wheel tricks. Usually I wouldn't even have noted the 700CMX (Fixed wheel freestyle) but within 24 hours of Chris's first video going online the big names of that sport were basically forced to admit that they were no where near to his level.
  11. Hello trials-forum, I'm here to get advice on purchasing my first trials bike. As it's generally the accepted norm I'll give you a little back story; I'm 28, I've been riding bikes for years, with a small hiatus whilst my life fell to pieces. In the end it was getting back into riding that helped me get things back on track. I started out as a mountain biker and rode some trials on my DMR trailstar bike back in the 90s. I then swapped to BMXing which took over basically all of my time right up until I had to stop riding. When I decided to get back into bikes, around 5 years ago, I bought myself a fixed wheel. From there things got manic, I've taken up road riding, rebuilt the old mountain bike, replaced the BMX and in the last 3 years played Bike Polo a few times a week. It's the latter which has led me back to wanting to ride trials again, basically as we use low gear ratios and the street frame I use allows me to drop the saddle to an acceptable height I've been messing around with little bits of trials recently, however, I know the bike will never be ideal. I figure it's time to add another bike into the stable. All help and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Emilié
