  1. For me it's gotta be TRA, Akrigg, Kenny Belaey and Danny Mac. I think Danny should be credited for bringing trials to the general public, it was always a pretty unknown sport before him, still is really, from the number of people asking me what type of bike I have.
  2. I agree a lighter bike, and frame in particular make a huge difference. My frame is old and weighs 2.6kg, plus I have some heavy components, like pro 2 and ronnie and reggie rims. It's tough but heavy. It takes a lot of strength and energy to throw it around BUT as I'm a beginner I want something that I'm not gonna break too soon. Trying some of my mates, lighter bikes is a pleasure though, so much easier to do stuff. I might consider cutting a slot in the headtube myself but at the same time I can't afford a new frame so maybe not. Oops misspelt throw
  3. How fast was the wheel spinning for this to happen? Don't know how something that bad could happen by accident. I know theres dangers to disks but completely cutting through the finger, nail and all? Scary stuff if it's true.
  4. I'm from Southampton but I moved to Ireland 12 years ago. Not much help to you. :wink2:
  5. To answer your question, yes it's pretty odd that I haven't really bothered too much getting good on the back wheel. I mostly do street riding. I've spent a lot of time doing stuff on the front wheel, getting good bunny hops, side hops and just getting to feel the bike. I'm really happy with my balance on the bike now, I can trackstand for as long as I want and can roll backwards pretty far. So I haven't been doing nothing. I've always tried back hopping but never really put in the time effort to get it down. But since I made this thread I've put in a lot of practice and added a new stem. I've got the balance point pretty sorted, I can hop 360 degrees without stopping so thats pretty cool. Now I'm working on pedal kicks. I've always been kinda nervous on the back wheel for fear of falling on my back but I just told myself to shut up and get on with it. So far it's working. I'll post again when I'm happy of my progress.
  6. I recently contaminated the disk on my downhill bike with wd40, a bad thing trust me when you don't realise you've done it. Don't ask me why but I didn't check before I went on a run and ended up hitting the ground hard when said brake failed to work. To remedy it I just cleaned the disk with white spirits and slapped in a new set of pads. A mate of mine had problems of getting his pads contaminated often, not sure why. He did some research and found that if you leave the contaminated pads on a cooker, it actually burns off the oil. Makes a lot of smoke though so you'd want an extraction fan. It worked for him. I accidently sprayed my disk again while trying to loosen the axle 3 days ago, couldn't be bothered to get out the spirits again so I just went onto the road and kept cycling fast then breaking, until the disk was really hot, then sprayed it with water, problem solved. Haven't had any problems with the disk on my trials bike yet.
  7. That's my next frame choice, I love the colour and the fact it has disk mount in case you want a rear disk. Also built in chain tensioner. So what's it like to ride, would you recommend it?
  8. As said I know the technique, I don't rock back from endo and I've tried it facing uphill, helps a bit but I still feel uncomfortable on the bike.
  9. So I've been riding for over a year now and thought I progressed really well, then I got to the stage where I needed to start gapping/pedal kicking stuff. Now I've watched a whole bunch of tutorials and read a lot of stuff so I'm pretty darn sure of the right technique. The problem is that I just don't feel that comfortable on the back wheel, I can bounce around quite a bit but can't seem to balance there. I thought at first I just needed to practice more and I have but still no. Then I tried some of my friends bikes with higher BB rise and longer, lower rise stems. I found it way easier to balance on the back wheel then and the bikes just felt more comfortable. The problem is that they also have a lighter front end, one guy didn't even have a front brake, my bike is pretty heavy in comparison. I ride an Onza T-rex by the way. So to sum up, what should I do? Get a new stem and maybe a riser bar or just keep practising? I can't afford a new fork or frame although I do eventually want to upgrade to a neon x-ray.
  10. Where do you go to school? We usually ride on sat and sundays also late at night in and around UL. The best thing to do is go onto our forum as linked above and post a thread about trials on our cycles section. Someone will definitely reply and then we can meet up.
  11. Yo I'm the president of mountain biking UL and a trials rider. I've only been riding a year but we have 5 other guys in the club riding trials as well. Some of them are pretty decent like riding for 10 years. Here's our site Also our facebook page You'll find us from the facebook page. We all have 26" bikes.
  12. Mostly people ask where's your seat, how much did that cost and other such annoying nonsense. The thing that really annoys me though is when some girl (usually drunk) in a passing group shouts out "real men ride women" to which I usually reply "are you offering?"
