      Sony DCR-SR35, 2 years old, I think, searched a few videos over on youtube, some widescreen (y), some full screen (y), then some horrible sh**ty standard view (n)

      Hmm, I can't be sure, but I'd imagine it does do 16:9, based off of the screens aspect ratio :)
