  5. Mark, you think too much, but seem to have the nail on the head there with the placebo thing. i'm going to bring this up mainly because i'm intrigued by some of the answers I'll get and also because it could be an impressive shitstorm; creationism, now personally i believe it to be utter shit, in the common perception of the concept (god made adam and eve and we didn't evolve from monkeys) there's far more than enough evidence to lead me to believe that the scientists are right on this one, we did evolve. but you get headf**k when it comes back to whatever we evolved from, obviously as mark said this life is tangible, i.e. it's happening here and now and descartes has pretty much got that one nailed too. so it's pretty certain we exist in some form. but something had to form that in the beginning, even if it happened by chance, something needed to form it in the beginning, and now we move into existentialism and universal physics.... but it's still a belief in creationism by something out of any form of theoretical control E.g. a 'higher power', but in a less archaic sense. so i'll gladly sit under the agnostic tree for now.
  6. your rooms looks bigger every time, i blame the fisheye. how big is it?
  7. you know all the funny shit on the internet? most of it comes from 4chan.
  8. that's a good attitude to have, if that's what you choose to believe which is a faith in itself then that's smashing. faith shouldn't be about bracketing yourself, you could say you agree with Christian ideals to give people an idea, but you don't have to label yourself. religion is a nice idea. it's just poorly executed by some who spoil it for everyone else, i'm not going to use the E word, but you all know what i mean. and at the end of the day, if you can make your life more positive by taking ideas from a book/books, then go for it. -------------------------------------------- can i just ask if there is anyone religious on here who's not Christian, catholic or jewish?
  9. yawn. there's gonna be some serious banning action from rich, (i hope). well done.
  10. good episode. do 24 hour racers actually just piss themselves? or do they have a tube system?
  11. there is a guitar thread somewhere, but never mind. (i'm assuming you know nothing about this so sorry if it's patronising) you'll probably want to start with some theory, work on the notes up the fretboard, it's boring but useful. i didn't learn this until later on and it would have been so much easier to do as a beginner, there's probably an abundance of stuff on google for this. then you will probably want to learn how to read tablature (tabs), it's pretty easy but some people struggle, i personally use www.ultimate-guitar.com, who also have ok forums as i recently discovered. you'll then want/need to know about chords, so read up on chords, and don't be thrown off by how complex some of them may seem, it's easy when you know how. so find a basic website explaining the basic chords A E and D are good ones to start with, C G F and B are a bit more complicated, although you'll probably have them down in a week if you practice. then you'll move on to barre chords, but it's best to learn normal (open ones) first. don't be too eager to play a song otherwise you'll cut corners and miss out on important things, although you'll find that with a few basics done, you'll be able to do loads. if you get stuck, msn me or something, failing that, there are quite a few others on here who probably know a bit more about teaching than i do. good luck.
  12. start with it turned off, turn it on when it tells you to.
  13. you make a fair argument James, i will never consider it a proper sport because of the basic principles, even though it's more of a sport than football (which incidentally is a game not a sport) i think there are better forms of athleticism than fighting, and i'm not doubting the training and discipline involved, i can appreciate good discipline/sportsmanship in most things... however i'm sure you can take into account the amount of fools the get a set of gloves on and think they're rocky, it's pathetic, whilst you may be involved in a decent club with a decent set of people there are still others out there doing it for the perpetuation of violence. and the childish blood lust bit was aimed more at the people who watch it.
  14. also, why is everyone spending £15 to watch it when everyone thinks it will be over in the first round? no sport in it whatsoever, just childish bloodlust.
  15. haven't had many problems with mine. it's very slow and battery life is a pig, apart from that it works fine.
  16. i'm putting myself out for a bollocking on this one. but if i wanted to watch two blokes knock fuck out of each other, i'd go into town on saturday night
