OK cool. I got myself some MT5s with Trialtech pads that should do the trick as well.

I think for James' skills brakes aren't really a limiting factor though.

No really, he had a go on mine with saints and said that brakes are the next upgrade on his list.

The whole Saint/ bb7 debate is a can of worms really, set up right they both can work equally as well as each other, and both have they're upsides and downsides. If you like a certain One get it :P

I'm afraid not, it was Run'n'Ride in Lichfield :)

Well when you have an excited 6/7 year old there in the shop with you there has to be some sort of santa interaction :D

id have to agree with that :P

  3. on my way up to sheffield on Sunday to stunt with Flipp, got to derby- where 4 guys with mountain bikes needed to get on. they all had reserved a space (even though theres only three spaces available) and though i was in the SPECIFIC non reservable space, an absolute fanny of a ticket man told me to get off or he'd fine me £100. i politely pointed out that my mod could easily fit in the luggage compartment if necessary, and he had no right to kick me off, but he didn't even bother to listen, and went as far to throw both my bags off before me and as near push me off.

i went on a full search of the rules, and iI'm definitely not in the wrong... i managed to hop on another direct train within 2 minutes and got there on time, but it was a shit start and made me seriously pissed. especially when i've paid that much for a ticket. extra motivation to go and pass my driving test, i suppose.

maybe ill make a clam... if i can be bothered.

We just ordered Reuben a frog 55 in the team sky colours, he's outgrown his old islabikes 16" and the bike shop is going to send the new one to Santa to get ready for Christmas:)

Orienting the spokes around the valve hole is easy.  Starting from the valve hole, lace up one direction of spokes on one side only and twist the hub the right direction to get an obtuse angle by the valve hole. Then starting on the spoke across the valve hole, lace a spoke in the opposite direction and hub side; complete that side counting the nipple holes and you will have a spoke either side of the valve with the correct orientation.

Now a good wheel builder will get the hub logo aligned with the valve hole :D

that wasn't perchance at broadribb cycles was it? because we just made a sale that matches exactly what you described, down to the whole christmas shindig.

Came back from the World Cup to a half-empty flat and a rather tense missus who said she was leaving. 4.5 year old relationship over. It still hasn't hit me, feeling more perplexed than anything else. Staying at my parents' house for the time being.

thats the worst. sorry to hear that

My problem is this mental block. I get higher and higher on the wall I've jumped on half a year ago already. If I try a higher wall, not as high as my wheels are in the air on the lower wall, I don't even jump right. :(

i do the exact same thing. i dont take off properly if im scared. need to train my brain to turn off.. when i crash nothing bad happens, just hit my chainstay.

  8. Yoshinori "Yoshi" Sumi came over from japan for a year, and he's now on the flight home- (safe travels!) its been a pleasure to ride with him, even though i didn't get a huge amount of clips, i made this. (nicked one of Aarons clips too) he's put up with me failing lines over and over behind the camera, and his riding is super smooth, especially in person.

and his bike is f**king pimp.

    ~obligatory bike rave~

Crewkerz Cleep frame, chris king rear hub with a rear XTR VEE, custom carbon booster.

on the front- SHI-MAGURA hybrid (xtr lever, louise calliper)

gorgeous. farewell, Yoshi. thanks for the fun.

  9. I had a massive, massive breakthrough with sidehops today.

Turns out it is ALL in my head, and not my technique... I usually practice on a wall near my house, and 2 years of crashing on the higher part of that wall gives me a mental block that I didn't really know I had.

went to another wall, brain switched off, mind on other things, and blasted out a sidehop a couple inches higher than a bit if the wall I never try because I'm too scared- and went far over it.

I may be brakeless, but the technique is the same. Only thing I have to worry about that you don't- is my front wheel. I can't lock the brake and hold it on an edge- if it's on an edge, it's rolling off that edge very quickly indeed. (Because the wheel is turned sideways a fair amount)  And back straight and throwing the arms seems to help me a lot.

went back to the bit if the wall I could never do, brain switched off, did it first go, kept going until I'd done it 30 times and was too tired. It's not big- probably around 40" but a milestone in my head. Especially as I'm a good 4 inches over it in the air. :P
