  1. Wahoo, the Frankenbrake lives! Thanks @Adam@TartyBikes
  2. Top man, thanks Adam, I may well have some kicking around then
  3. Reopening this, I’m now considering running the Shimano levers on a different bike. Anyone know where I can get the Shimano shroud that goes onto the magura hose? I’m also assuming that I’d need to use the Shimano olive and hose end plug?
  4. I feel your pain, if I had a bike that colour the first place I would be going is the painters. I’ve actually stopped watching Duncan Shaws videos because I genuinely can’t stand the neon pink. I personally have mine shot blasted and powder coated (I’ve done a few, with another little project going to the powder coaters this coming weekend). good luck, the world will be a better place with one less pink fourplay
  5. Dedication to the hunt that! The bike looks lovely.
  6. I need to go through this process... tunes and a beer sounds good!
  7. Are they noisy @Swoofty? That’s something I’m really not into anymore. I did try running an XT v on an earlier build but had similar problems getting the arms to sit properly. As it happens I would have ran a rear disc, but the frame was built to run a Hope mini mono which I couldn’t get my hands on. the stars must have aligned as I have a friend with a spare set. I’ll see what I can do
  8. Brake mounts arrived today, a bit of a faff setting up, as it’s a wide rim and there is no off set on evo 2 mounts I had to sand the pads down to fit haha the bike is now complete, having ridden it properly now it’s clear it’s definitely a park bike! Keeping the rear rim smooth and rocking black pads
  9. No problem @Petrum, I enjoy a good build thread too, furthermore thoroughly enjoy building so thought it made sense to share for the like minded community
  10. Thanks @Matt24. I always liked them, although I preferred the cleaner look of the original Ashton ET, which I also have the paint job on the diamond back always put me off, and I often wondered how it would look in a simple colour way. Glad I finally got to do it and I agree it looks better than the original. I get so excited when going to pick up bike bits from the powder coaters haha
  11. I would imagine this bike compares quite with my experience of cycle cross / gravel bikes. I got one a 6 years back thinking I love cross country riding and I enjoy road cycling - a do it all bike would be great and cycle cross must be the answer. The harsh reality is that for me at least, I found it incredibly frustrating. It exaggerated the limitations of its ‘do it all’ nature - It was no where near as fast as my road bike on the road, and no where near as capable off road as my XC bike. I’d ended up with the worst attributes of both disciplines. So I’m agreeing with what had already been said. The bike and the rider look uncomfortable throughout the video - particularly during ‘street/park’ moves. Be careful in considering what it is that you want from the bike else you might end up with the combined negatives from both ends of the spectrum.
  12. Thanks @Swoofty, I’m glad I ended up with paint now, it gives it a bit more of a premium look I think - the stickers certainly help too.
  13. Some updated pics, I finally got around to refurbishing the fatty r forks. Tweaked the front end to suit my riding style - but kept the original bar and stem.
  14. Back brake added but waiting on some decent mounts to arrive (the newer type with the back brace). The decals also arrived so have put them on! Pretty much the finished article now
  15. A bit more work on it this morning and some clearer images, this stem feels much better
  16. After an hour or so in the garage this evening this is how far I got: A quick roll around tells me the front feels a bit low for my liking so the 80x40 stem will be going on.
  17. Collected the frame and forks today looks so so good in the flesh!
  18. Nice spot to ride, looks like fun! A good idea to set yourselves some brakeless challenges - gives any obstacle a different dimension.
  19. Frame and forks are being collected tomorrow afternoon so thought I’d get most of the remaining parts out ready to fit: Looking forward to this, especially thanks to these little beauts that are in the post: thanks for hooking me up @Ross McArthur in other news I’ve managed to bag some echo urban disc only forks from eBay. Get in! they’ll either go on the Zebdi or this. I’ll see what mood I’m in when I begin the build. I’m steering towards having the Ashton forks on this now.
  20. To be fair the second photo was me for just over 9 months haha, literally conceived and had a child before the order arrived.
  21. @Adam@TartyBikes phwoar, that looks lovely! Nice job mate! Looking forward to seeing that finished!
  22. @Adam@TartyBikes phwoar, that looks lovely! Nice job mate! Looking forward to seeing that finished!
  23. Brilliant photo shop skills haha. Literally laughed out loud at this. definitely similar to my Marino, drop outs are identical with the built in bolts for chain tension adjustment.
  24. Dropped the frame off at the spray shop, unfortunately they don’t do sandblasting, only shot blasting which is much more aggressive, so I’ve decided to have the frame powder coated silver. The Ashton forks are being done too in gloss black along with a set of Fatty’s which will go on the giant. at this stage the Ashton frame will have Onza zoot curved forks. They are already Matt black, albeit with a green Onza sticker down the side. I’m not intending keeping them on it for long (holding out for some straight blade forks). So I’m not powder coating the Onza forks. it should be ready to collect next week sometime.
  25. Good justification @Brettoll it’s going to have tensile cranks with a black 18t bash ring, so should be accidentally quite well colour matched. the headset and seat clamp I ordered are anodised red. Should look interesting
