Not really a surprise with the chain snappage. The smaller the sprocket is, the more stress is put on the chain. That's why I wouldn't even think about running 16t up front. 22t for the win!

Did you use the TPA to set up the brake by any chance? Sounds like the slave pistons can't get out any further. That causes the lever to stop at a certain point before it reaches the bars. Undo the tpa all the way and set up the slave pistons again! If that doesn't help, bleed the brake.

It will be shit. Get the alu version and grind it!
