Bunnyhopping high. Twist left or twist right.
Ali C replied to Mr_Orange's topic in Beginners Trials Chat
pretty much what OOO has said, the tuck is the get the bike higher without it hitting you in the arse and the twist is to shorten the time the bike takes to get over the bar. Which way you tuck is personal preference, Danny, Myself and most BMXers will tuck to our back foot side as this is the same way we spin so it means you can do high 180 hops and general spins in riding (think tyre tap over things). Trials riders tend to tuck to the other side as you can tuck the bike up higher in sidehops and not be limited by your back foot being in the way. The down side is that it can really mess with how you bunnyhop and link everything together when riding street. I had to unlearn my spins and tucks and start again the other way, I really think it helps in the long run. -
Your bike is no way ideal for straight bunnyhops, however I do find having the bars tilted back really helps! Oh, and a high front end (but not too high).

haha not quite, maybe a couple of inches taller

We're both about the same, we each win roughly 50% of the hop comps....we've maxed out at around 124cm on a REALLY good day

Thanks, I agree with the title comment, I'll get on it! I'm editing this weekends footage now, really not sure how well it'll come out. It's hard to vlog when I need my hands to build stuff (head cam next time?) plus some of the guys didn't really want to be filmed all that much. We'll see how it looks though.

Quite happy with this pic by Dave Mackison, I like the shapes and that I beat Danny haha! The quality's been raped

I think I'd need to up my sidehop game for that!!

There's not really a bank there, just a bench which is too short to take any advantage from

new one is up now Welcome to my office

I may do the occasional real simple how-to but I have a whole other plan for them that I'd like to do.

she's good but it's all about the green tea every day!

I did think a longer bike could ride the place better, I think I'd be so rusty that I couldn't do any more than I can on my current bike though. I went out filming yesterday and I took a small tripod with me. I don't think it's perfect but the split screen could be an idea, it's all early days and I'm still finding my feet on the best way to get things done, thanks for the suggestions though

good question, I've been riding for 20 years now and progression has definitely slowed down but I don't think it's stopped. That's one reason why I changed from competitions to street, I felt I was just doing the same thing over and over and trying to get a couple more inches stopped appealing. I started street and then there was a whole new world to discover and I feel I progressed quite quickly. I still have days where I feel like I've not got anywhere or even gone backwards but then there's days I feel like I just conquered a mountain progression wise. One thing I've realised is age isn't a barrier, it's all in the mind and riding as much as possible is important to keep progressing. Edit: Speaking of progressing, I just managed to get up a rock I've been trying for the last two years, so I guess I'm still progressing

I'm hoping fairly often but it's tricky not to just rush out a load of material and then not be able to think of content. I've a few ideas, I'll maybe put one out every month or every other week depending on how it goes.

I'm genuinely surprised it's going down this well. I've been reluctant to do this kind of thing before firstly because I'm a bit shy sometimes and secondly I never thought they were that good, I've always liked quality over quantity but now I see that that's me sticking to the old ways rather than moving with the times....doing these seems like a great way to bring people closer to the riding and the reality of it all. I've bought a couple of things that'll hopefully help with getting some better shots and I've plenty of ideas for my next episodes. Cheers everyone!

nice I always dreamed about launching off the ski jump to the left of that stair set and clearing the road and sea wall and landing in the slope on the other side

cheers Luke, I did try to get a look back at the walls but I didn't anticipate how low my camera was so it didn't get a good view plus it slowed down the pace of the video. The drop at 4 mins was one of my biggest for a while, must have been at least 11ft. I'll do it again when Mark comes up next

I've just uploaded todays helmet Gopro footage onto my Facebook fan page, I'm not sure how you embed that so sorry for just a link click me

Cool riding dude but if I've got one tip for you I'd REALLY advise you to learn to spin the other way. It will be hard but it will link up your riding SO much better. You already 360 pivot the other way so things are getting mixed up and it'll only get worse as you get better. You're also putting in a pedal kick in spins and rolling gaps where just a plain bunnyhop will look a lot nicer. This is coming from experience, if you want to future proof your riding NOW is the time to start....I learned the hard way.

might do

I don't think Magura anticipated how much some riders (trials especially) put side-to-side forces on the lever blades, that seems to be why the can come loose, Magura are making a bolted version with cnc lever blade to try, hopefully they'll work and be for sale soon after.

They're 34s, They feel pretty good but I'm not too experienced with sus so I couldn't say how they compare against previous/other models but I've no complaints so far. I'm tempted by a four, the shorter chainstays and smaller rear pivot arc appeals to me but some of my fave trails are ridiculously steep so the slacker head angle of the Five is handy.....I guess I could always get offset bushings and headset though.
