Not sure if they are the same fitment robin or prawn will probably know!
-
By any chance a gearbox that fits a 1.8t? Fancy selling me the bellhousing half of the outer casing?
-
Rear ARB arrived today, fella forgot the weld on mounts for my subframe though hopefully get it fitted up over the next few weeks. Also going to fit new bushes out back and replace whatever else necessary before getting the rear aligned as it's still not actually been done :$ Club member also got some springs manufactured to replace the commonly broken OS engine mount spring which is no longer available, that should make my engine less wobbly

Anybody knowledgeable on the 120bhp fiat diesels? The one in the astra smokes a bit, presumably first port of call is to clean out all the inlet piping and clean the EGR? Do these engines have a DPF?
-
I'll get it on the ramp and go over it later today with a fine tooth comb (not literally), I guess popping off the pipe work to the turbo and checking for play would be a good plan too. I think the cars still got warranty so it may be worth pursuing that

Bums. The audi used over 1 litre of oil last night in 150 miles no noticeable smoke, no horrid smelling fumes, coolant is pink, no noticeable leaks and performance is spot on... What checks should I go for? I did wonder if the turbo is on it's way out but surely I'd notice piles of smoke?

I think it looks kinda cool for a polo. Is it on bags or coillies?

Been driving the a3 this week as the porsche is back at Suffolk. Is there much difference between the 2010 1.8t and the older ones? It's punchy but needs more oomph, I guess a remap is on the cards at some point although I fear that will mean new clutch time will come up sooner than I'd like. Still unsure if I like the car, being an s line it looks pretty but there's several little niggly things that annoy me, mainly the lack of a decent cup holder and the seats are pretty awful! Hippy guy, with your budget you should consider a 924/44, dirty cheap, easy to fix, lower running costs than you would expect and you may be able to get a classic policy (not sure how old you are). If you do consider one then join an owners club and seek advice or buy a car from a club member

I'm up for it September onwards, no time to ride currently

If you haven't got an Ez bleed then get one. One of my favourite car tool investments

Collected some parts from a club member, fingers crossed the warm up regulator works and if it doesn't at least I have some better bumpers to go on and make the car look better... Also robin, that really sucks! Any plans to build another already? I think buying the mega squirt might be my best option. I can run EFI on the standard engine for now, and it'll also then be wired in ready for the 1.8t, so I won't have to actually do that much extra to get the engine running once it's mounted up. I guess I'd have to pay to have the immobiliser removed off the stock 1.8t ecu and that would contribute greatly to the megasquirt. Is the microsquirt any good? Or would you not bother with it?

The springs fit fine in the perch, this is the first time I've tried it and to be quite honest I've not noticed any difference in the suspension characteristics, a far cry from what the critics say. Is still rather run proper lowering springs or coil overs though, once I've decided if this is the route I want to take. Seems as though I need my warm up regulator rebuilt, £250 I really don't want to spend
-
Ordered a big ass socket so I can lower the back end on the eccentric bolt (torsion bar out back so I can adjust it on the splines otherwise but that's big effort), Then I will trim the fronts to suit the back end
-
I'll take some photos when the cars clean, its full of rubble from the tip trips its been doing! Utility Porsche Likely your battery is knackered as they don't like being run flat (especially when they get old), get it charged up then load tested. Might be also worth ch ecking you are getting charge from the alternator too

Cheers for the replies chaps. It was just an idea as the 1.8T may have to go on hold for a bit due to budget and time constraints due to the house being a bitch to get done. I think I may just concentrate on rebuilding all the K Jet stuff and hope it gets a bit more economical and less lumpy running. Megasquirt is cheap for what it is, but it's still lots of money I don't have right now I fitted some CVs that don't have a ton of slack today, made so much difference to the car! I also had to sort out a top mount issue so figured it would be rude not to fit some spare springs that I had snipped in order to see what the car looks like an inch lower. I now want to lower the car further :$
-
Odd question perhaps but something I have wondered about. I was wondering if it would be possible to steal an ecu and associated parts setup from one car and transplant it onto an engine to make some sort of EFI setup? I know you would need to go for an engine with the same sort of specs and the mapping would need changing but could that work as a budget alternative to buying an aftermarket ecu?

My brothers birthday is coming up and I'd like to get him some bits for his racer which is realllly nice apart from the shite plastic pedals I gave him until he could buy some as his bike wasn't supplied with any...that was 2 years ago! I would like to get him some new pedals, SPDs make sense but he also uses his bike for work occasionally and I know he would prefer a flat option. Are there any pedals worth getting with an SPD/flat mix that work? Up to £50 ideally. He has a spare racer that I need to build a new wheel for so I may be able to buy dedicated SPD pedals for him if needs be Also shoes wise, what should I get him? Weekend rider, not super serious (but thinks he is) up to £60 ideally
-
Pete I have spent pretty much the same in one year, and it seems another £1500 is needed for the engine, wide body kit and paint. Bloody hope I get a pay rise next term!
-
Anal attention to detail has made that look rather awesome, nice job dude!

Most retrorides chaps won't care, most are open to any cars and they would be stupid to criticise if they are getting paid... Shame you aren't my way, I'd happily do it. Modified some mk2 golf handles to fit my porsche, just got to fit them and hopefully I can get into the car without clambering through the wrong side! Variable speed motor controller arrived today so I can modify my interior fan setup and not just have it on constant full blast, slightly irritating!
-
Tried retrorides? Some ace guys on there, should be somebody near you
-
Wasn't Simon into little girls too? Maybe that's why you confused him and George
-
Nope, didn't bother retrofitting it when I fitted remote CL. I'm sure I'll manage for a few days until I get a replacement
-
Drivers door handle broke, didn't realise just how annoying opening it from the otherwise would be....

JD ECP are usually pretty good, give them a buzz and ask for those specific belts? They do have some random stuff on there sometimes though, there's 3 different size belts listed for my car and 2 of them are WAAAAYYY off being the right length!
