  1. Do they need to be installed with an o-ring?
  2. Just started up riding again after a few years off. I run a single speed setup and need a new rear mech, noticed that the adjustable tensioners seem quote popular now. Have these improved or should i just stick with a mech? Interested in your input.
  3. So it looks like it could be a design flaw. They cant have designed it intending that surely.... or could they? I spoke to my lbs who queried it with Hope. They said it was engineered like that, designed to have a certian amount of flex to give the lever better feel. Has anyone else heard this?
  4. Indeed, the bolts are torqued up. I'd probably expect this flex if the pads were hitting either un evenly or consecutively.
  5. Quick question for anyone that has or knows these brakes. When you pull the lever in and watch the caliper, does it flex at all? My whole caliper flexes sideways towards the hub... Does anyone have any comments or suggestions.

  17. True, it depends on how often you ride. I dont think i ride often enough to say one pair should last everyone a year. What i do know is that I definately value my trials shoes, so i guess i wouldnt have a problem buying 2 pairs at 50/60 quid a pop should the original wear out. But only 1 pair going on the Ribo existing price.

It is interesting to note that some manufacturers and influential forces within cycling media wish the rule to be retained. All views have to be considered. That said, the problem we have to face up to is that there are those whose hobby for some time has been pseudo Trials activity, not competition. It has been suggested in this thread already that people have been put off of competition riding due to the six gear rule A situation exists where by we have a core of dedicated competitors who have always accepted the rules as they stand and another group of interested riders who have honed their skills on the streets, possibly unaware of the rules and regs that exist at comps, the Bikes the latter group ride will not have been built with a focus on comps. How many of these riders that have accepted these OLD rules would prefer to ride single-speed, or atleast have the option to? How many of these riders would kick up a fuss if someone rides along side them with 5 less gears... It makes good sense for the UCI to allow single speed. What do have in a UCI final? 10 or fewer riders competing over 8 sections with a time limit of about an hour, very exciting, very fast, but no time for repairs, so the risk of mechanical failure should be kept to a minimum. In BIU comps there is time to effect a repairs, the potential winner is unlikely to miss the podium due to 10 minutes spent changing a mech hanger. Exactly, its proven that it works. So if we incorporate the option, seeing as BIU has time for repairs it would be the ultimate So, what do forum users want at British championships? As it stands the gear rule will remain for the BIU British Championships, but the comps are there, the sections are laid out, why not accommodate single speed Bike riders. If together we can come up with a workable solution it will happen. I don't agree that the 6 gear rule will remain, especially not without more discussion, or presentation of the BIU discussion However, i am delighted that the idea is not just simply turned down like that - it looks that there may be a chance that we might evolve. Fred." If people are not going to get the glory they deserve through skill alone, then thats just wrong. Having separate classes for stock will make things unnecessarily complicated. Have they taken into consideration that it can be a hinderance to the running single-speed. What I'm saying is that it is both helpful (weight, simplicity) and restricting (cannot ride fast) at the same time. Allowing optional gearing may increase the amount of competitors at competitions. BTW, since BIU rules were created how many have been deemed useless and removed to accommodate trials bikes or even riders. Why do we remove the seatpost and saddle from a trials bike? To save weight and get it out of the way. Should we make it a rule that a stock trials bike must have a working seatpost and saddle!? If we did incorporate this as a rule along with 6 gears, it would mean that people would waste less energy riding from section to section, and not look like a goon with no saddle. And honestly, no matter how you change a stock trials bike, IT WILL NEVER BE A MOD. So i don't see how people can say, well if you take away gears its basically a mod bike with big wheels. One last thing, manufacturers are willing to play God (cant believe i just wrote that) and create (really shouldn't have written create after regretting writing play God) all kinds of mongrel trials bikes like the Koxx Demon Boy and frames with 116mm dropouts. Could be the future.. Does this show anything else other than the fact that trials is changing rapidly. EVEN manufacturers can see these changes, act upon it or even experiment! (Im so glad that experimenting is now able to take place!) The fact is that for them to do this, they must know some people will buy it and go against competition rules. Therefore re enforcing how farcical the working 6 gear rule is! James

  20. How much of the sole on this shoe is there own design? What good is the shoe if the sole gives... The shoe itself isnt a rebrand (as far as i am aware?). Only time will tell how good these shoes are. They may have to re work the price if Tarty gets in the Ribo's mind.
  21. The idea of a trials shoe for me is to have better feel. Therefore a thinner sole. Its going to be pretty consuming (time and money) to developa good trials shoe that will last. The fact that the try-all shoe itself rips is something that manufacturers can get around, but then again whats the point if their sponsored riders get a new pair pretty easily and they only sell X pairs a year, not everyone wants a trials shoe. To me it is a bit of a catch 22 situation, how can you have a great feel and have the shoe lasts a decent amount of time. I'd be interested in trying the new Ribo's - my try all's have given up the ghost. Out of interest, how long do people expect a trials shoe to last? Im talking pixie boots here, Try-all, Ribo etc. At the current price of trials shoes id want one pair to last a year (woah what a skin flint! lol) Also, i found Yiks to be even weaker than Try alls,material wise. They just ripped after a couple of rides.
  22. Sounds good to me, although its a fair 'ol distance so probably only a couple of times a year. But then again, if they are not expecting to incorporate an entry fee would heavy interest be required? My guess is yes if people want all these posh amenities If its decent then people will use it, how often is anyones guess. Where do most of the trials breed live? Might be a better way to guage interest. As i say, if its decent then it will get used.
  23. Have to agree with Mark here, no one wants a bash plate on a stock. I've never seen this done before so dont see how that can be a plausable argument....in the nicest possible way. Although i am arguing that you should have the option to run gears if you want, i also understand that there are old* rules that trials bikes have to abide. You have to take into account the fundimental basics of the trials bike; mod (modified) and stock (standard). Although a standard trials bike is kind of contradictorty, but that has nothing to do with the point im trying to make. *big emphasis on old here, as trials has changed so much..leaps and bounds anyone? A large amount of people now run single speed, why not make it legal? doesnt have to be THE rule, but optional. If you choose to run singlespeed and you cant get to the next section in time, you loose buddy - your choice. I think that trials needs some change in rules to accomodate the trials of today. Even father/mecca/founder (whatever) Monty shook things up with a 25" rear wheel. However, im willing to stand corrected should someone bring any major points up to sway my opinion. Go,go,go
