this is an interesting theory. But I think people are missing out a few things in their answers. Firstly no one has mentioned bike weight or geometry, which to me is a crucial thing. Also are you maximising your leg muscle power through jumping or turning the cranks? etc etc. Id post my thoughts but im too tired. I think I can gap further than jump

you definitly cant pack out inbetween the headset lower cup + the fork crown, because the two parts are designed to interface directly with each other, and infact putting something in between would completely remove the point of them. As said, your best bet is to get a thick crown on your forks to bump the height up, but really, this isn't going to be much more than 10mm to be honest. If you look at the bottom of the steere tube on a pair of forks, the tube tapers out at the bottom to ensure a tight fit on the crown. This taper isn't 'thickest' for a lot of the steerer so anything too much is going to be very unstable. Sorry, but theres not much you can do apart from stem stackage or bar + stem combos.

sorry I missed this Its not a bodge. With the hub out of the frame, and the fun bolts removed, the driver will pull out. Usually a rotation in the freewheel direction helps as well as pulling it out. Yeah you dont need to undo the sprocket, thats attached to the driver

using the search ^^ The consensus is that the only way you can get them, is to bodge them. That is, buy a 36h hub, and swap the shell for a 32h front one (with a disc if you like) To my knowledge, you cant BUY these hubs with 32h standard

have you taken the driver out yet? That will really give you your answer. It maybe one pawl has snapped and clogging it all up, in which case its 1 pawl you need. Or it may be a mangled bearing etc etc. Get it out, and if you dont know what to do with it, take some pictures and we'll tell you what to do.

how similar are the courses ben? Its common at my Uni, if someone does foundation year civil, they can very easily swap to mechanical engineering at the end of year 0. Ive even known friends to swap from Product design to Mechanical at the end of the FIRST year as a lot of modules are similar still. I know its obvious, but the easiest thing is find out whos in charge of the new subject, and go speak to them and explain your situation one on one. They'll also tell you honestly if its likely you'll get in or not at the end of the day the more students the uni has on each course, the more money they get...Theyd rather accommodate you then chuck you out
